PENDLETON
Madie Denny Pendleton, 89, Eldon, died Sept. 9, 2002, in Jefferson City.
She was born March 23, 1913, in Miller County, a daughter of Joel H. and Mary Atkins McBroom. She was married Nov. 14, 1931, to Roscoe Denny, who died Dec. 11, 1978. She was married June 4, 1980, to Amos Pendleton, who died July 11, 2001.
She was a lifelong resident of the Eldon area. She worked as a food service director for the Eldon Public Schools for more than 20 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Eldon. She was a volunteer for the Eldon Senior Center.
Survivors include: three daughters, Betty Jo Vann, Eldon, Donna Sue Hoskins, Jefferson City, and Jane Pendleton, Dixon; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
One granddaughter preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Shirley Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
STEINMEYER
Ruth Joann Katherine Steinmeyer, 66, Florence, died Sept. 10, 2002, at Golden Age Living Center, Stover.
She was born June 17, 1936, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Otto J. and Marie Max Walther. She was married Dec. 23, 1967, in Schubert, to Martin Steinmeyer, who survives at the home.
She was a 1954 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She worked for the rehabilitation section of the Missouri Department of Education in Jefferson City for 15 years and served as secretary to the Stover High School principal for 21 years. She also farmed. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Schubert and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stover.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Paul Walther and Vernon Walther, both of Jefferson City; and two sisters, Flora Walther, St. Louis, and Norma Steinmeyer, Stover.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stover. The Rev. Cecil Murdock will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the St. Paul's Lutheran School or a charity of the donor's choice.
LOCHHEAD
Herbert R. Lochhead, 73, San Benito, Texas , formerly of Jefferson City, died Sept. 7, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
Arrangements are at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
COMBS
Sarah C. Combs, 92, formerly of Syracuse, died Sept. 10, 2002, at Tipton Manor Nursing Home.
Arrangements are at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton.
BEMKE
Services were today for Raymond F. Bemke, 80, Warrenton, formerly of Camdenton, who died Sept. 9, 2002, at DePaul Health Care Center, Bridgeton.
He was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Chicago, a son of Max and Elizabeth Bemke. He was married Nov. 17, 1945, in Chicago, to Dorothy M. Frohlich, who survives at the home.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A former Wheaton, Ill., resident, he worked as a telephone repairman with Illinois Bell Telephone for 45 years until his retirement.
He was a member of American Legion Post 76, Wheaton; VFW Post 2164; Knights of Columbus, Camdenton and World War II Seabee Veteran 84th Navel Construction Battalion.
Other survivors include: one son, James A. Bemke, St. Charles; two daughters, Linda M. Lukas and Sandy A. Schomig, both of Wheaton; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were at the Church of St. Cletus, St. Charles. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were under the direction of Baue Funeral and Memorial Center, St. Charles.
BRYAN
Mary Irene Bryan, 62, Jefferson City, died Sept. 10, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Ponca City, Okla., a daughter of Paul and Neomi Cutter Etzel. She was married Feb. 2, 1960, in Cole County, to Donald G. Bryan, who survives at the home.
She was a graduate of Tonkawa High School in Tonkawa, Okla.
She was a homemaker and worked for Ramada Inn in Jefferson City for several years. She was a member of St. Michaels Deliverance Ministries.
Other survivors include: three sons, Donald Dean Bryan, Michael Bryan and Darrel Bryan, all of Jefferson City; two daughters, Deanna Wells, Wentzville, Kan., and Teresa Morland, Gilliam; one brother, Freddie Etzel, Tonkawa; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One daughter, LaDonna Jean Salmons-Bryan, died Feb. 25, 1999.
Private family services will be held. The Rev. Thomas McAdams and the Rev. Brad Schmidt will officiate. Entombment will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

SACHS
Services were Saturday for Jacqueline Mae Sachs, 71, formerly of Lake of the Ozarks, who died Sept. 4, 2002, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Canton, Ohio, a daughter of Paul and Vera Elizabeth Shivley Goodwin. She was married to Paul Sachs, who survives in Springfield.
She was a retired teacher.
Other survivors include two daughters and three grandchildren.
Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home, Springfield.
SCHNEIDERS
James Henry Schneiders, 74, Jefferson City, died Sept. 11, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Jefferson City, a son of Henry B. and Martha C. Schneider Schneiders. He was married Oct. 27, 1951, in Jefferson City, to Marjorie McMichael, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Topeka High School, Topeka, Kan.
A Navy veteran, he worked for the United States Postal Service and as sales manager for the Jefferson City Coca Cola Bottling Company for 25 years until his retirement. He also was the developer of Woodland Parks Estate subdivision.
He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral, the Men's Association and VFW Roy Sone Post 1003. He served on the board of directors of Cole County Public Water District 1 for 27 years and was the board's president.
Other survivors include: one son, Michael Schneiders, Jefferson City; one daughter, Linda Bledsoe, Jefferson City; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.
One daughter, Nancy Ann Schneiders, died in 1972.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Cathedral. The Rev. Joseph Corel will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Helias Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
STIEFERMAN
Jack Andrew Stieferman, infant son of Erik and Alicia Stieferman, Holts Summit, died Sept. 10, 2002, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born Aug. 26, 2002, in Columbia.
Other survivors include: one sister, Lily Catherine Stieferman, of the home; maternal grandmother, Mary Blochberger; maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Samuel and Dawn Blochberger; paternal grandparents, Ronci and Jennifer Stieferman; maternal great-grandparents, Elmer and Catherine Blochberger and Patrick and Patricia Wenger; paternal great-grandparents, Vernon and Norma Stieferman and Harry and Margaret Flavell; maternal great-greatgrandmother, Victoria Wenger; paternal great-greatgrandfather, Clarence Reed.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, Jefferson City. David Scott will officiate. Private family burial will be in Centertown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.

BACKES
Aloysius "Al" J. Backes, 79, Loose Creek, died Sept. 12, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Osage County, a son of Gustave and Bertha Orscheln Backes. He was married June 16, 1948, in Loose Creek, to Clara J. Kremer, who survives at the home.
He attended Immaculate Conception School, Loose Creek. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek; Linn Chapter of AA; the Loose Creek Community Center; Loose Creek Senior Citizen Housing; the Public Water District; Osage County Historical Society; and the Borgmeyer Coffee Club.
He was a self-employed carpenter and worked with the Mid-Missouri Council of Governments for 10 years.
Other survivors include: one son, Roger J. Backes, Loose Creek; six daughters, Marcella Kremer, Alexandria, Va., Wanda Woods, Hartsburg, Donna Huebler, Linn, Gail Luecke, Loose Creek, Eileen Brune, Meta, and Bertha Fick, Rich Fountain; one brother, Art Backes, Linn; three sisters, Angie Kremer, Grace Rackers and Olivia Ruettgers, all of Loose Creek; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Fr. Greg Meystrik will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
