RACKERS
Joseph W. Rackers, infant son of Andrew and Mollie Rackers, Holts Summit, died Sept. 27, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center, Jefferson City.
He was born Aug. 7, 2002, in Columbia.
Other survivors include: one brother, Andrew Rackers, Linn; one sister, Kimberlie Rackers, of the home; paternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Rackers, Taos; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Sidebottom, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors- Jefferson City Chapel. The Rev. Tom Mustain will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Kimberlie Rackers Educational Fund or the Ronald McDonald House, Columbia.
SIMPSON
James H. "Jim" Simpson, 76, Sunrise Beach, died Sept. 26, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born May 30, 1926, in Siloam Springs, Ark., a son of Ralph and Lodyese McWilliams Simpson. He was married on March 23, 1946, in Troy, Kan. to Laura M. Walter, who survives at the home.
He operated the Pony Express Service Station, Simpson's Texaco and Simpson's Conoco, all in St. Joseph, until his retirement.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 2705, Laurie, the Masonic Lodge, St. Joseph, and the Lions Club, Hurricane Deck. He was also a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie.
Other survivors include: one son, James W. Simpson, Sunrise Beach; one daughter, Catherine Mueller, Little Rock, Ark.; one brother, Earl Simpson, Westport, Wash.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Elks Lodge.
TERRILL
Wilford L. "Bill" Terrill, 77, Warrensburg, died Sept. 27, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center, Jefferson City.
He was born July 21, 1925, in Chillicothe, a son of Russell and Georgianna Yotsey Terrill. He was married Sept. 12, 1948, in Kansas City, to Margaret J. Hale, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. He was a Navy veteran. He worked as a theater manager at various theaters throughout the state. He was a member of the Rotary Club, American Legion, Warrensburg, and the Kiwanis Club, Carrollton. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Warrensburg Restoration Branch.
Other survivors include: two sons, Steven H. Terrill, Joplin, and William R. Terrill, Carthage; one daughter, Leigh Griffith, Jefferson City; one sister, Marjorie Bennett, Excelsior Springs; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, Jefferson City.
MARVAL
Eugene "Gene" Marval, 65, Eldon, died Sept. 29, 2002, near his home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1937, in St. Louis, a son of John and Helen Wayer Marval. He was married June 10, 1961, in Hazelwood, to JoAnn Umfleet, who survives at the home.
He worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in St. Louis as a system analyst until his retirement. He was an Army veteran.
Other survivors include: two sons, Donald Marval, O'Fallon, and Keith Marval, Lake Ozark; one daughter, Susan Marval, Hazelwood; one sister, Joyce Gerren, St. Louis; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home in Osage Beach. Burial will be in the Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Osage Beach.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday.
MURPHY
Vina C. Murphy, 89, Jefferson City, died Sept. 29, 2002, at St. Joseph's Home for the Aged.
She was born Dec. 1, 1912, in Sedalia, a daughter of George and Anna Kolb Westerman. She was married July 22, 1935, in Sedalia, to Martin E. "Bud" Murphy, who died March 10, 1962.
She was a resident of the Jefferson City area since 1942 and attended Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School. She worked as manager of the catalog department of Montgomery-Ward for 23 years, until her retirement Dec. 1, 1975. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a member of St. Ann's Sodality. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons. She served as the president of the St. Joseph's Home for the Aged residents council.
Survivors include: two sons, Richard D. Murphy, Prince George, Va., and Ronald E. Murphy, Holts Summit; one sister, Louise Dalton, Sedalia; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of St. Joseph's Home for the Aged. Msgr. Charles Patterson and the Rev. Chris Cordes will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of St. Joseph's Home for the Aged.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Home for the Aged Bird Aviary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
PEAK
Grace Myrtle Peak, 99, Columbia, died Sept. 29, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.
She was born Sept. 28, 1903, in New Bloomfield, a daughter of Nige A. and Annie Lee White Peak.
She was a beautician at the Oak Beauty Salon for over 50 years. She was a member of the New Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Ashland. She was a member and secretary for the Missouri Cosmetology Association for many years.
Survivors include: three sisters, Lillian Nichols and Susie Forsee, both of Ashland, and Joanna Monda, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home in Ashland. The Rev. Tracy Cook will officiate. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to New Liberty Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.
THOMAS
Chester Murrel "Tommy" Thomas, 81, Gravois Mills, died Sept. 29, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.
He was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Roby, a son of Elvin R. and Rubie B. Wood Thomas. He was married Dec. 21, 1951, to Ruth E. Matza, who survives at the home.
He was a master welder and boilermaker for Kennedy Tank and Manufacturing in Indianapolis, Ind. After 42 years, he retired from Local 374 Boilermakers Union. He moved from Plainfield, Ind., to the Lake area, after retiring. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2186 in Plainfield and the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2507. He was a member of the Rolling Hills Country Club in Versailles. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Michael Thomas, Mooresville, Ind., and Daniel Thomas, Kingsland, Ga.; one daughter, Maureen Anderson, Belleville, Mich.; one brother, Glynn Thomas, Springfield; and seven grandchildren.
One son, David Thomas, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie. The Rev. Bart Larson will officiate. Entombment will be at a later date at St. Patrick Cemetery in Laurie.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the Elks Benevolent Fund or Missouri River Hospice.
