MURPHY
Jewel Murphy, 88, Vienna, died Oct. 5, 2002, at Maries Manor Care Center.
She was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Freeburg, a daughter of James and Lula Franklin Keeney. She was married Aug. 10, 1929, in Vienna, to John Boone Murphy Sr., who preceded her in death.
She worked as supervisor of the Maries R-1 School District lunch program and was a sales associate with J.C. Penny in Rolla, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vienna.
Survivors include: one son, John "J.B." Murphy, Springfield; one daughter, Irene John, Vienna; two sisters, Sylvia Mahaney, Rolla, and Helen Young, Boonville; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Allen Murphy and Gary Murphy and one infant grandson, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. The Rev. Karen Alden will officiate. Burial will be in Vienna Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to Vienna Public Cemetery, First Baptist Church Vienna, or the Alzheimer's Association.
PETER
Ruby Irene Peter, 80, Versailles, died Oct. 5, 2002, in Versailles.
She was born June 11, 1922, in Goodland, Kan., a daughter of Fred L. and Nancy Laura Lee Short. She was married Aug. 4, 1940, in Goodland, to Reuben H. Peter, who died Feb. 27, 2000.
She graduated from Goodland Kansas High School. She worked as a clerk for Kanorado Cash Store in Kanorado, Kan., for several years. She lived in Avondale, Colo., for 28 years, moving to the Eldon area in 1996. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Eldon.
Survivors include: one son, Jerald Duane Peter, Oakley, Kan.; one daughter, Sandra E. "Sandy" Meyer, Eldon; two brothers, Don Short, Sterling, Colo., and Bill Short, Loveland, Colo.; two sisters, Grace Jensen, Aurora, Colo., and Pauline DeVolld, state of California; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
One son, Dennis Lee Peter, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church. The Rev. Stephen Riordan will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
VAN UUM
Kathleen A. Van Uum, 83, Lake Ozark, died Oct. 4, 2002, at her home.
She was born March 15, 1919, in St. Louis, a daughter of Theodore and Kathleen Keiflein Heege. She was married to Gilbert Schuessler, who died in 1966. She was married to Richard Van Uum, who died in 1992.
She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
She was a homemaker.
She was a founding member of Lake Regional Health System Auxiliary in Osage Beach.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Ozark.
Survivors include: two sons, Ronald Schuessler, Clayton, Ga., and Jack Schuessler, Plain City, Ohio; two stepsons, David Van Uum and Robert Van Uum, both of St. Louis; one stepdaughter, Virginia Collins, St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. The Rev. George Kramer will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Calvery Cemetery, St. Louis.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
Memorials are suggested to Lake Regional Health System Foundation.
BRANCH
Charlee Marie Branch, 13, Clarksburg, died Oct. 6, 2002, in Clarksburg.
She was born Sept. 12, 1989, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Lanny and Samantha Hibdon Branch. Her father and stepmother, Lanny and Jamie Branch, survive in California. Her mother and stepfather, Samantha and Colin Hibdon, survive in Clarksburg.
She was an honor roll student at Clarksburg School, where she was active in basketball, volleyball and track.
Other survivors include: one brother, Jason Branch, California; four sisters, Brandi Branch and Alisha Miller, both of California, Cassidy Hibdon, Tipton, and Patricia Williams, Clarksburg; maternal grandparents Ike Hibdon, Latham, and Linda Hibdon, Sedalia; paternal grandmother Carol Branch, California; maternal great-grandmothers Eula Pirtle, California, and Cordie Hibdon, Eugene; and her stepfather, R.L. Williams, Clarksburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clarksburg School. The Rev. Norman Potter will officiate. Burial will be in Green Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday in the school gymnasium.

HOWSER
Burnham E. "B.E." Howser, 94, Eldon, died Oct. 6, 2002, in Eldon.
He was born Feb. 27, 1908, in Miller County, a son of Howard E. "Dunk" and Margaret Nibert Howser. He was married Feb. 26, 1927, in Tuscumbia, to Dollie D. Taylor, who died March 6, 1987.
He was a farmer and helped in the construction of Bagnell Dam. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he was Sunday school superintendent.
Survivors include: three sons, Gene Howser, Jefferson City, Lee Boyd Howser and Howard T. "Corky" Howser, both of Eldon; four daughters, Sharon Shaw, Fair Grove, Shirley Schaeffer, Martha "Polly" Morris, and Rosie Willis, all of Eldon; two brothers, Howard Howser, Salinas, Calif., and Donald Howser, Bethel Park, Pa.; one sister, Jewel Sandfort, Eldon; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
One son, Stanley Howser, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Jim McGowin will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

KRAMER
Gerald "Jerry" Kramer, 57, Belleville, Ill., died Oct. 7, 2002, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville.
He was born Nov. 26, 1944, in Jefferson City, a son of Edwin and Delia Herman Kramer. He was married May 7, 1966, to Lyn Sitzes, who survives.
He was a licensed airplane and powerplant mechanic at McDonnell-Douglas. He worked at Eagle Range Manufacturing, Belleville. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Belleville, where he was a lector and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a volunteer for the Catholic Urban Program mobile kitchen, current president of the Belleville Area Ostomy Association and a pastoral care lay minister at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Other survivors include: one brother, Edwin A. Kramer, Bunker Hill; two sisters, Sr. Marianne Kramer CCVI, St. Louis, and Betty Jo Buschman, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa Catholic Church. Msgr. Donald Eichenseer and Fr. Trevor Mury will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Ostomy Association or to the Catholic Urban Program Mobile Kitchen.
RHODES
Ella C. Rhodes, 93, Chamois, died Oct. 5, 2002, at Hermann Area District Hospital.
She was born March 19, 1909, in Chamois, a daughter of John and Minnie Neimeyer Stocksick. Her stepfather was August Busse. She was married March 19, 1932, in Chamois, to Hadley Rhodes, who died in 1970.
She attended Chamois Schools and Busse Schools. A homemaker, she was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Chamois, where she was a member of the choir, Women's Fellowship, Willing Workers, Quilters and the church council.
Survivors include: one daughter, Dolores Schannuth, Hermann; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Deborah Pope will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois.
