STALEY
Russell A. Staley, 80, Chamois, died Oct. 9, 2002, at Green Meadows Skilled Care, Linn.
He was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Linn, a son of Austin and Annie Malan Staley. He was married Jan. 10, 1942, in Frankenstein, to Roseline M. Brandt, who died Dec. 19, 1996.
He was self-employed in clay mining, trucking and excavating. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: one son, James Staley, Chamois; one daughter, Linda Carel, Yorktown, Va.; one brother, Clifford Staley, St. Aubert; two sisters, Jewel Brandt, Chamois, and Reta Wolfe, Linn; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Pat Dowling will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Chamois, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Community Hospices of America.
CARPENTER
James "Jay" Charles Carpenter, 65, Rocky Mount, died Oct. 9, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 22, 1937, in Versailles, a son of James S. and Francelia Willson Carpenter. His mother survives in Jefferson City. He was married in 1964 to Alice Allen, who died in 1991. He was later married to Patricia Nolan, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Jefferson City High School and the University of Arkansas. He retired as head of the computer department at the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
Other survivors include: two sons, David W. Carpenter and John W. Carpenter, both of St. Louis; one daughter, Susan A. Carpenter Moore, St. Louis; one stepson, John Nolan, St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Sherry Everding, St. Louis, and Jeanne Williams, Eldon; one brother, Thomas W. Carpenter, Gulf Shores, Ala.; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Versailles Cemetery. The Rev. Gailya Dow will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the ALF of Greater St. Louis.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
GOWER
Doris Yvonne Gower, 82, Portland, died Oct. 11, 2002, at Riverview Nursing Center, Mokane.
She was born Oct. 27, 1919, in St. Louis, a daughter of Robert W. and Kathryn Adams Wilson. She was married Aug. 5, 1961, to Robert F. Gower, who died March 6, 2002.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Portland.
Survivors include one sister, Roberta G. Weachter Staebell, Sarasota, Fla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Seamus Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Portland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

MILLER
Edward S. Miller, 78, Ferguson, died Oct. 10, 2002.
He was born March 31, 1924. He was married to Clarice "Tootie" Miller, who survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Michael Miller, Jefferson City, Daniel Miller, Ft. Collins, Colo., and Matthew Miller, St. Charles; two daughters, Susan Linan, Kirkwood, and Amy Turner, St. Charles; one brother, Jean Tarver, San Diego; one sister, Mildred Weeks, St. Louis.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home, Creve Coeur. Burial will be in National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday.

ROBERSON
Alene Louise Roberson, 70, Vienna, died Oct. 10, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 7, 1932, in St. Louis, a daughter of William C. and Myrtle Leona Basford Parker. She was married April 14, 1949, in Rolla, to Kenneth Wayne Roberson, who preceded her in death.
She was a lifelong resident of Vienna.
Survivors include: three sons, John Roberson, Jackie L. Roberson and Jim Roberson, both of Vienna; one daughter, Jill Fick, both of Vienna; two brothers, Jim Parker, Vienna, and Terry Parker, St. James; four sisters, Joy Chambers, Rolla, Billie Havens, Vienna, Nellie Sandbothe, Rocky Mount, and Ruth Poor, Lawson; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vienna Church of Christ. Mike Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Vienna Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the church.

CRAWFORD
Reese Nowell Crawford, infant daughter of Jeremy Crawford and Kelly Hubbs, Eldon, died Oct. 10, 2002, in Columbia.
She was born Oct. 9, 2002, in Jefferson City.
Other survivors include: grandparents, B.B. and Marsha Hubbs, Eldon, and Dicie Mobley and Darrell Crawford, state of Florida; one sister, Taylor Crawford, Eldon; and one brother, James Crawford, Eldon.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eldon City Cemetery. The Rev. Walter Simpson will officiate.

KLIETHERMES
Alphounce J. "Joe" Kliethermes, 91, Marshall, died Oct. 10, 2002, at Mar-Saline Manor, Marshall.
He was born March 5, 1911, in Rich Fountain, a son of Herman and Catherine Koneer Kliethermes. He was married Dec. 1, 1951, in Marshall, to Dortha Ann Barrier, who died March 6, 1999.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. He retired from General Motors in Kansas City. He was a 4th degree member of Marshall Assembly Knights of Columbus, and a member of United Auto Workers.
Survivors include: one son, Joseph D. "Jody" Kliethermes, Richmond, Va.; one stepson, Sammie Lee Barrier, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Ramona Ann Kahmann, Kansas City; one sister, Margaret Heberer, Marshall; one granddaughter and 10 step grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Marshall, with Rev. Kevin Gormley officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, Marshall, followed by a prayer service.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Peter Catholic Church Building Fund.
PRIEST
Elsie K. W. Priest, 80, Jefferson City, died Oct. 11, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Osage Bluff, a daughter of Arthur H. and Rosa K. Brenner Jacobs. She was married Sept. 25, 1949, in Jefferson City, to James E. Priest, who survives at the home.
She attended school in Osage Bluff. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Brazito, the church's Ladies Quilting Circle and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Other survivors include one sister, Marie Schubert, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Stephen H. Buchholz will officiate. Burial will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
