SMITH
Pauline Ellen Smith, 85, New Bloomfield, died Oct. 12, 2002, at Presbyterian Manor, Fulton.
She was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Mexico, a daughter of Letus and Rose Mosley Herring. She was married in February 1939 in New Bloomfield, to Wilson Smith, who died April 4, 1994.
She worked as a secretary for the Callaway Bank in Fulton. She was a member of Dry Fork Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
She was a member of WMU, the Guthrie Extension Club and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include: one son, Steve Smith, Fayette; one daughter, Sandra Haymart, Fulton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dry Fork Baptist Church, New Bloomfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.
VANNATTA
William "Milo" Vannatta, 89, Moberly, died Oct. 12, 2002, at North Village Park, Moberly.
He was born Oct. 16, 1912, in Tuscumbia, a son of Charles O. and Percilla Abigail Lewis Vannatta.
He was a farmer until his retirement and a member of Tuscumbia Assembly of God Church. He was a member of Moberly First Baptist Church Cap-Corma Sunday School Class.
He was a former member of Lake Ozark American Legion Post 229.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: one brother, Charles Wayne Vannatta, Moberly.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to Moberly First Baptist Church or Tuscumbia Assembly of God Church.
WILDER
Sonny M. Wilder, 23, Jefferson City, died Oct. 11, 2002, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born May 31, 1979, in Columbia, a son of Kerry M. and Doris A. Abbott Wilder. His mother and stepfather, Doris and Bryon Paneitz, survive in Jefferson City. His father and stepmother, Kerry and Joy Wilder, survive in Jefferson City.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, he graduated from Blair Oaks High School in 1998. He was a volunteer with the Cole County Fire Protection District, Osage City.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Brandon Paneitz, Jefferson City, and Richard Weaver, Cotter, Ark.; five sisters, Amanda Boss and Desiree Boss, both of Holts Summit, Sasha Paneitz, Taos, Vicki Tharpe, Mountain Home, Ark., and Rhonda Loveall, Jefferson City; and maternal grandparents, Tom and Betty Volmert, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. C.D. Butler and the Rev. Dale Beasterfeld officiating. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Cole County Fire Protection District.
PETERSON
J. Raymond Peterson, 101, Jefferson City, died Oct. 14, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Aug. 7, 1901, in Guy, Texas , a son of Vincent L. and Mattie Burke Peterson. He was married Sept. 17, 1924, in St. Louis, to Ruth Nicolson, who died Aug. 12, 1979. He was married Dec. 31, 1979, in Jefferson City, to Marian Alexander, who survives at the home.
He was a 1916 graduate of Rosenberg High School, Rosenberg, Texas and he graduated from Rice University, Houston, in 1920. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1920 until his retirement in 1962. He worked in Texas , Missouri, Arkansas, New York and Washington , D.C. He retired as vice president of personnel in St. Louis.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member and past president of the board of trustees of Junior Achievement of Mississippi Valley; a member of the board of trustees of the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church; a member of the board of trustees of the Lenoir Home in Columbia and a member of the board of advisors of Culver-Stockton College in Canton. He was a member of the 32nd judicial commission in St. Louis and a member of the Pacyderms.
Other survivors include: one son, A. Raymond Peterson, Des Moines, Iowa; two stepsons, Norman Alexander, Weatherford, Texas , and George Alexander, Las Cruces, N.M.; five grandsons; four step grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. R.W. Beard will officiate. Burial will be in Bellefountaine Cemetery in St. Louis.
Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

KUPER
Joseph P. Kuper, 76, Hazelwood, died Oct. 11, 2002, at Christian Hospital Northwest.
He was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Glennonville, a son of Christian A. and Mary Catherine Kuper. He was married to Ginette E. Valiton, who preceded him in death.
He was a 1943 graduate of St. Peters High School in Jefferson City. He worked as a consultant for Emerson Electric, retiring after 28 years. He was a 21-year Air Force veteran. He retired as a major.
Survivors include: three sons, Michel Harris, Phoenix, Ariz., Alan Kuper, Sacramento, Calif., and Steve Kuper, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Scottie M. Elizabeth Kuper, Issaaquah, Wash., and Linda Grace, St. Charles; one sister, Evelyn Siegmund Viviano, Chesterfield, Va.; three stepbrothers, Harold Eggen and William Eggen, both of Jefferson City, and Ralph Eggen, Denver; two stepsisters, Marie Kohl, Farmington, Mich., and Mildred Dampf, Houston, Texas ; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Sabina Catholic Church, Florissant. The Rev. Bob Samson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Hutchens Mortuary, Florissant.
REEVES
Irvin "Jim" Reeves, 84, Macks Creek, died Oct. 13, 2002, in Russellville.
He was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Bunker, a son of Alfred and Anna May Jamerson Reeves. He was married July 21, 1946, to Edyth Merle Crane, who preceded him in death.
He was a rock mason and owned a sawmill. He was a member of Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Macks Creek. He was a member of the Missouri Trap Shooters Association, the Laurie Trap and Skeet Club and the Linn Creek Trap Shooters. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: one daughter, Victoria A. Franklin, Linn; two brothers, Curtis Reeves and Herschel Reeves, both of Oklahoma state; one sister, Zelma Fox, state of Oklahoma; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Macks Creek. Burial will be in Macks Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
MASSIE
Lewis Edward Massie Sr., 72, Ellenton, Fla., formerly of Jefferson City, died Oct. 10, 2002, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1930, in Ellington. He was married to Dorothy Massie, who survives in Ellenton.
He was a retired construction supervisor. He moved from Jefferson City to Ellenton in 1997.
Other survivors include: four sons, Thomas Massie, Denver, Lewis Massie Jr., Branson, and Nicholas Massie and Douglas Massie, both of Jefferson City; one daughter, Joan Stoner, Jefferson City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Private services will be at a later date in Jefferson City. The body was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of The Good Earth Crematory, Bradenton, Fla.
SHACKLE
Sandra Lynn Shackle, 41, Versailles, died Oct. 13, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 26, 1960, in Minneapolis, a daughter of Jerry and Marnette Kleckner Shackle, who survive at the home.
She worked at Quality Industries, Versailles, and was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church, Sedalia.
Other survivors include two brothers, Dale Shackle and Doug Shackle, both of Versailles.
Services will be at a later date at First United Pentecostal Church, Sedalia.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
