CHURCH

William Edward Church, 84, Sunrise Beach, died Oct. 14, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

FIENE

Mary Fiene, 89,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 18, 2002, at Capital Health Care Center.

She was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Olean, a daughter of Eugene and Maud Miller Bond. She was married Dec. 22, 1943, in St. Louis, to Harold Fiene, who died March 2, 1989.

She retired from the telephone company in Elmhurst, Ill. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one sister, Venita Enowski, Eldon.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Weber & Sons Funeral Home, Russellville. The Rev. Farrie L. Cole will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to Missouri River Hospice, 3210 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65205; or the American Cancer Society.

SHORE

John Clinton "J.C." Shore, 68, Marion, Ark., died Oct. 17, 2002, at Delta Medical Center, Memphis, Tenn.

He was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Versailles, a son of Clinton and Bethel Compton Shore. He was married Dec. 26, 1952, to Betty Cable Shore, who survives.

He graduated from Versailles High School and attended Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau. He worked for 11 years as the property manager for Franklin Electrofluid Co. Inc. in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and  Louisiana. He was a member of Whitten Memorial Baptist Church, Memphis. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Other survivors include: two sons, Steven Shore, Little Rock, Ark., and David Shore, Phoenix; one daughter, Sherry Holst, Pizza, Italy; two sisters, Cornell Franklin, Memphis, and Donna Fischbach, Overland Park, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday.

AMES

Eric Ames, 36, Barnett, died Oct. 17, 2002, near Barnett.

Arrangements are at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

SHAFFER

Merle Shaffer, 71, Gravois Mills, died Oct. 18, 2002, at the Medical Center of Independence.

She was born April 11, 1931, in Cameron, a daughter of Leo and Margarite Riley O'Day. She was married May 19, 1951, to Willard Leo Shaffer, who died July 23, 1993.

She retired from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline, and was a member of the Shrine of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie.

Survivors include: three sons, Terry Shaffer, Gladstone, Rick Shaffer, Independence, and Steve Shaffer, Raytown; two sisters, Jody Brady, Kansas City, and Lenora Holtum, Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, James Shaffer.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Patricks Cemetery in Laurie.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of services at Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie.

WEHMEYER

David Lee Wehmeyer, 54,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 17, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.

He was born Nov. 5, 1947, in Owensville, a son of George and Dorothy Bagby Wehmeyer.

He was a 1966 graduate of Owensville High School. He received an accounting degree from Lincoln University in  Jefferson City. He was the Missouri Department of Corrections' chief accountant until retiring in June 2000.

He served in the Air Force from 1969-73, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2693 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003.

Survivors include: two sons, Clinton Wehmeyer and Jeff Wehmeyer, both of  Jefferson City; one daughter, Leigh Ann Wehmeyer,  Jefferson City; one brother, Dennis Wehmeyer, Owensville; one sister, Tammy Wright, Gerald; and one granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors --  Jefferson City Chapel. Rev. Murl Nash will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Leigh Ann & Kayla Dawn Wehmeyer Educational Fund, care of Central Bank.

PIGGOTT

James Daniel Piggott, 75, Iberia, died Oct. 18, 2002, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach.

He was born June 21, 1927, in McKenzie, Ala., a son of Emory and Didia Mae Booker Piggott. He was married May 23, 1948, in Waynesville, to Ruby Hensley, who survives at the home.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from the Navy after 20 years. He worked as a cook at several restaurants in the Lake area.

He was a member of the Crocker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4956, the Iberia American Legion Post 105, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge No. 410 AF and AM, the Military Order of the Cooties, the Abou Ben Adem Temple in Springfield, and the Iberia Lions Club.

Other survivors include: three sons, Tommy and Jimmy Piggott, both of Iberia, and Daniel Piggott, Brumley; two daughters, Linda Sue Shreve and Mary Jo Cochran, both of Iberia; three sisters, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Dennis Nichols will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

LUEBBERT

Frederick I. Luebbert, 74, Taos, died Oct. 19, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center in  Jefferson City.

He was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Taos, a son of Emil F. and Paula Talken Luebbert. He was married May 30, 1953, to Dianna Hoffman, who died March 28, 1993.

He was the division manager for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in Jackson, Miss., for many years until retiring in 1982. He also worked for the United Kennel Club from 1983-1995.

He was a veteran of the Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus of Taos No. 6430, and the Fraternal order of Eagles Aerie No. 2693.

Survivors include: one daughter, Cindy Forck, Taos; one son, Ron Luebbert, Jackson, Miss.; one brother, Walter Luebbert,  Jefferson City; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Rev. J. David Maher will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors -- Taos Chapel, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Xavier School.

CALTON

Lela Dona Calton, 86, Warsaw, formerly of Versailles, died Oct. 20, 2002, at Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 23, 1916, in Ulman, a daughter of Robert and Martha Pilkington Mace. She was married March 16, 1945, to Aubrey J. Calton, who survives at the home.

She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: four sons, Leslie J. Calton, Warsaw, Larry J. Calton and Ronald L. Calton, both of Springfield, and Donald W. Calton, Linn; one sister, Mary Burks, Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.
