LEHMEN
Norbert John Lehmen, 90, Freeburg, died Oct. 29, 2002, at Westphalia Retirement Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Rich Fountain, a son of Ferdinand and Margaret Klebba Lehmen. He was married Nov. 6, 1935, in Freeburg, to Elizabeth Marie Dickneite, who died March 21, 1998.
He was a farmer in the Brinktown and Freeburg areas and worked at Play-Mor Trailers, Westphalia. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, the Men's Sodality, Western Catholic Union and the Freeburg Fire Department board.
Survivors include: three sons, Ferdy A. Lehmen, Westphalia, Marvin J. Lehmen, Deadwood, S.D., and Leon P. Lehmen, Freeburg; three daughters, Donna M. Holterman, Freeburg, and Norma L. Struemph and Marilyn M. Lehmen, both of Jefferson City; one sister, Martha Schmitz, Westphalia; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia. The Rev. Robert A. Kurwicki will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic School, Freeburg; St. Joseph Catholic School, Westphalia or Westphalia Retirement Center Activity Fund.
SLADE
Ralph Slade, 71, Eldon, died Oct. 29, 2002, in Eldon.
He was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Seminole, Okla., a son of Ray O. and Olivia Nickleson Slade. He was married April 11, 1949, in Reno, Nev., to Joan Johnson, who survives at the home.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union for 271Ž2 years in the state of California.
He worked as a Wal-Mart greeter in Osage Beach for seven years.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Louis Stogsdill, Rhonda Vaughn and Susan Baker, all of Eldon, and Jean Knotts, Vacaville, Calif.; one brother, Earl Slade, state of South Dakota; two sisters, Hessie Slade and Susan Slade, both of Richmond, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Howard Parsons will officiate. Military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday at VFW Post 2442 of Eldon.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation or the Heart Foundation.
DIEHL
Lena W. L. Diehl, 92, Jefferson City, died Oct. 29, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 14, 1910, in Cooper County, a daughter of Theodore and Elisabeth Stock Diehl.
She attended Immanuel Lutheran School near Prairie Home. She was a salesperson for Popp's Lawn & Garden and Classic Nursery until she retired in 1998. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a charter member of the Evening Guild and the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include: two sisters, Mildred Schubert, Boonville, and Aline Snodgrass, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jerome Brownlee and the Rev. John Hobratschk will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery near Prairie Home.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Pleasant Grove Lutheran Cemetery Fund or Heisinger Lutheran Home.
HITZ
George Herman Hitz, 80, Jefferson City, died Oct. 30, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
He was born June 27, 1922, in Glennonville, a son of Charley J. and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Dampf Hitz. He was married Oct. 7, 1950, in Mary's Home, to Eleanor Schulte, who died Feb. 10, 1985.
He was a 1940 graduate of St. Peter High School, attended Jefferson City Junior College and graduated in 1942 from Westminster College, Fulton.
He worked for the Department of Conservation and the American Cancer Society.
He worked for the Missouri State Library for 32 years, until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the St. Peters Parish Board of Trustees and school board.
He was president of the Holy Name Society and started the tithing program. He was a member of the VFW Roy Sone Post 1003.
He was instrumental in starting the Veteran's Day memorial service at St. Peter Church and in placing the American flag on Jefferson City police uniforms.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: two sons, George Hitz Jr., and Greg Hitz, both of Jefferson City; four daughters, Elizabeth "BK" Perkins, Mary Jo Hitz, Dolores Lauf and Anne Gay Carmichael, all of Jefferson City; one sister, Rose Williams, Jefferson City; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One granddaughter preceded him in death.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Lammers will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Capital Projects-Sheltered Workshop.
STEINER
Roy L. Steiner, 80, California, died Oct. 31, 2002, at his home.
