WARREN
Gloria Mae Warren, 78, Kansas City, died Dec. 31, 2002, in Kansas City.
She was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Columbia, a daughter of Josephine Smith Cochran.
She graduated from Douglas High School in Columbia and lived in Kansas City for 48 years. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church, Columbia.
Survivors include: one daughter, Joyce E. Antwine, Kansas City; three sisters, Peggy Horne and Loretta J. Cochran, both of Kansas City, and Teola J. Cochran, Jefferson City; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Warren Funeral Chapel, Columbia. Bishop James D. Tindell will officiate. Burial will be in Log Providence Cemetery, Columbia.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
BANG
Nathan Samuel Bang, infant son of Joshua V. and Rachel Leann Smith Bang, Auxvasse, died Jan. 1, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
Other survivors include: maternal grandparents, Harold and Carol Smith, Knobel, Ark., and Robert and Rose Hinkson, Fulton; and paternal grandmother, Jane Petersime, Hannibal.
Graveside services will be at noon Saturday in Callaway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Fulton. Bruce Williamson will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.
TURPIN
Thomas Jerry Turpin, 68, Enid, Okla., formerly of Jefferson City, died Dec. 28, 2002, at his home.
He was born June 26, 1934, in Springfield, a son of Thomas E. and Mrytle Gwendola Goforth Turpin. He was married Oct. 10, 1959, in Jefferson City, to Renee Engelbrecht, who died Nov. 7, 1991.
He graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1952. He received a degree in drama from the University of Missouri and his doctor's degree from the University of Southern California. He taught at Friends University, Wichita, Kan., for several years. He taught drama and communication at Phillips University in Enid, from 1963 until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of University Place Christian Church, Enid, where he was an elder. He was a member of Gaslight Theatre, the Dulcimer Organization and was active in dulcimer workshops in Mt. View, Ark.
Survivors include: two sons, John Turpin, Enid, and James Turpin, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Juliana Turpin and Justina Turpin, both of Enid; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Lawrence Veatch will officiate.
Visitation will from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at Buescher Memorial Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Gaslight Theatre, the University Place Christian Church or to the First Christian Church.
CAREL
Lydia Virginia Carel, 73, Chamois, died Jan. 1, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 23, 1929, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Louis and Lydia Stockman Graessle. Her stepmother was Katherine Bode. She was married Dec. 1, 1951, to Bernard Carel, who died Jan. 21, 1997.
She was a homemaker and a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Chamois. She was a past member of VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include: three sons, Dennis Carel, Yorktown, Va., and Ronald Carel and James Carel, both of Chesterfield; two daughters, Cynthia Carel, Rapid City, S.D., and Evelyn Knapp, Jefferson City; five brothers, Paul Graessle, Donald Graessle and Tom Graessle, all of Jefferson City, John Graessle, Eldon, and Carl Graessle, Hartsburg; three sisters, Ann Falter, Freeburg, and Mary Jo Brandt and Helen Oldendahl, both of Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Judith Hilda Carel, died Aug. 26, 1962.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Pat Dowling will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
GROVES
C. G. Groves, 58, Iberia, died Dec. 31, 2002, at his home.
He was born June 10, 1944, in Iberia, a son of Floy and Grace Skaggs Groves. His mother survives in Iberia.
He worked for Horseshoe Bend Special Road District since 1994. He was a partner in Groves Packing Company for 24 years. He was a member of Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Other survivors include: one son, Christopher Groves, Warrensburg; four brothers, Leo Groves, Everson, Wash., Joe Groves, Jefferson City, and Gary Groves and Davie Groves, both of Iberia; three sisters, Judy Gilbert, Springfield, Carol Groves, St. Louis, and Kathy Bonesteel, Spring, Texas .
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Earl Skidds will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
HEGG
Ruth J. Hegg, 83, California, died Jan. 1, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born April 17, 1919, in Lohman, a daughter of John and Theresa Horak Woehrer. She was married Dec. 27, 1949, in Lohman, to Adolph Hegg, who died Sept. 8, 1990.
She attended Lohman School. She was a homemaker and worked as a binder at Von Hoffmann Press. She was part-time cook at Moniteau R-1 School. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Quilting Guild. She was a member of the Quilters at California United Church of Christ, the Friendly Circle Club in High Point and was a 4-H leader for years at Show-Me 4-H Club in McGirk.
Survivors include: one son, Wilfred E. Hegg, Palatine, Ill.; one daughter, Kathleen Shoemaker, California; one brother, Rudolph Woehrer, Lohman; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Church of Christ. The Rev. Gary Schulte and the Rev. Collette Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Friday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

OTTO
Lawrence Stephen Otto, 80, St. Thomas, died Dec. 31, 2002, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
He was born March 16, 1922, in St. Anthony, a son of Michael and Martha Rehagen Otto. He was married July 16, 1946, in Meta, to Bernadine Werdehausen, who survives at the home.
He was a farmer and worked for Shryack-Hirst Grocery Company in Jefferson City as a foreman for 25 years.
He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta and the Argyle VFW Post 8045.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: five sons, Kenneth Otto, Eugene Otto, Dennis Otto, and Glenn Otto, all of St. Thomas, and Donald Otto, Westphalia; one daughter, Marilyn Bax. St. Thomas; five brothers, Victor Otto, St. Thomas, Roman Otto, St. Elizabeth, Elias Otto and Charles Otto, both of St. Anthony, and Fred Otto, Eldon; three sisters, Rose Werdehausen, Meta, Cecelia Brand, St. Anthony and Bernadine Groner, St. Thomas; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. The Rev. John Schutty will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Meta, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
