BIGGS

James M. Biggs, 74, Centertown, died Jan. 2, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Burkley, Ken., the son of William M. Biggs and Mary Isabelle Brock Biggs. He was married March 17, 1971, in Salem to Sharon Ann Pinner, who survives at the home.

He attended Scott City Public Schools. He owned Biggs Petroleum Maintenance Company until retiring in 1992. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the Missouri Petroleum Marketers Association.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Rosemary Prenger, Wardsville, Sharon M. Biggs,  Jefferson City, and Terry Becker, Troy; two sons, James T. Biggs, Versailles, and Mark Biggs,  Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Laura Sturm, Estella Gray, Edna Ramsey and Shirley Kinder, all of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Carl Biggs.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. The Rev. John Gorham will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Centertown Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri, 601 E. High St.,  Jefferson City, Mo., 65101; or the American Cancer Society, 2932 Mohawk,  Jefferson City, Mo., 65101.

GILBERT

Frances Marie Gilbert, 72, Osage Beach, died Jan. 4, 2003, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.

She was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Moberly, a daughter of Glenn and Marie Taylor. She was married March 15, 1958, to Joe Gilbert Jr., who survives at the home.

She was a graduate of the University of Missouri and worked in personnel for Butler Manufacturing, Kansas City. She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, PEO, Phi Chi Theta Business Fraternity, a Lake Ozark Arts Council board member, president and national advisor for Delta Gamma Sorority and served on various Osage Beach city and state committees.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Tina Corner, Annapolis, Md.; one step-son, Rich Gilbert, Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Joe Gilbert III.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church, Osage Beach. The Rev. Robert Hickman will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. at Elliot Grove Cemetery, Brunswick.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Dogwood Animal Shelter, Camdenton.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles and Laurie.

GLASER

Chester Glaser, 90, Bland, died Jan. 3, 2003, at Frene Valley Healthcare South, Owensville.

He was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Bem, a son of Henry W. and Emma Dieball Glaser. He was married April 11, 1937, in Red Bird, to Eleanor Michel, who preceded him in death.

He was a farmer and a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, Bem. He was a past member of the Bland School Board, a past commissioner of the southern district, and a past council member at St. John's.

Survivors include: five sons, Morris Glaser, Holts Summit, Clark Glaser, Bland, and Henry William Glaser, Dennis Glaser, and John Glaser, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Phyllis Mitchum,  Jefferson City; one sister, Amy Schultz, Owensville; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Todd Hackman will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery.

HERNDON

Roxiana "Roxie" Herndon, 72, Roach, died Jan. 3, 2003, at her home.

She was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Kansas City, a daughter of Ovie and Susie Short Fuller. She was married to Louis German. She later was married, on April 30, 1983, to Fred Herndon, who survives at the home.

She managed the Walnut Apartment Complex in Grandview for several years. She was employed at Wal-Mart in Camdenton for 10 years before retiring.

She was a Baptist, and had served as a Cub Scout den leader.

Other survivors include: three sons, Michael Harris, Las Vegas, Nev., Steven German, Paola, Kan., and Mark German, Chino Valley, Ariz.; one daughter, Susan German, Kansas City; two stepsons, Doug Herndon, Richlands, N.C., and Todd Herndon, Overland Park, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Kim Depede, Rochester, N.Y.; two brothers, Vernon Fuller, Walnut, Calif., and Bob Fuller, Fairfield, Calif.; one sister, Pat McCool, Nashville, Tenn; seven grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one step great-grandson.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Jim Millstead will officiate. Burial will be in the Dale Blair Memorial Cemetery, Camdenton.

STROPE

Leander T. "Lee" Strope, 75, Wardsville, died Jan. 2, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 2, 1927, in St. Thomas, a son of August Strope and Anna M. Groner Strope. He was married April 1, 1967, in Wardsville, to Pauline Catherine Maasen, who survives at the home.

He attended school at St. Thomas. He worked for Schell Trading Company, St. Thomas, and later with Von Hoffman Press until retiring in 1990.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church; St. Jude Assembly 1567, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; St. Thomas Council 2149, Knights of Columbus; and the Over 50 Club, Wardsville.

Other survivors include: three sons, Richard L. Strope, Columbia, Jeffery W. Strope, Holts Summit, and Randy J. Strope,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Joyce Ann Strope and Jennifer Lynn Sharp, both of  Jefferson City; six grandchildren; one brother, Donald Strope,  Jefferson City; and two sisters, Claire Ann Huhn, Folk, and Mary Ellen Brunnert, Carthage.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville. The Rev. Louis E. Dorn will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will from 4-8 p.m. today at the Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

BROOKS

Edwin Dean Brooks, 69,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 5, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born June 24, 1933, in Sailor Springs, Ill., a son of Otis E. and Idelle Miller Brooks. He was married Sept. 1, 1973, in Olney, Ill., to Jane Ann Drury, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Sailor Springs High School and attended Eastern Illinois University. He was editor for Rough Notes Publishing Company in Indianapolis for several years. He was media coordinator with the Missouri Division of Tourism until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Capital City Christian Church and an Air Force veteran.

Other survivors include: two sons, Anthony E. Brooks and Mark D. Brooks, both of  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary W. Baker will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 2932 Mohawk,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

FECHTEL

Catherine Laurentia Fechtel, 88, Westphalia, died Jan. 6, 2003, at Westphalia Retirement Center.

She was born Dec. 25, 1914, in Rich Fountain, a daughter of Frank and Mary A. Richter Rudroff. She was married Oct. 2, 1934, in Rich Fountain, to Anthony George Fechtel, who died May 1, 1991.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, where she served as organist for 20 years. She also was a member of the St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, the Westphalia Historical Society, and the Western Catholic Union.

Survivors include: one son, Rick A. Fechtel,  Jefferson City; five daughters, Gloria M. Brunnert and Jeanne F. Redel, both of Vienna, Carole A. Cavender, Linn, and Marilyn G. Wilde and Judy C. Vanderfeltz, both of Westphalia; one brother, Eddie Rudroff, Florissant; 23 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia. The Rev. Robert A. Kurwicki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Westphalia.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or School, P.O. Box 116, Westphalia, Mo., 65085; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
