HAMPTON

James Russell "Jim" Hampton, 83, Fulton, died Jan. 26, 2003, at Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Reform, a son of Amos L. and Martha Ann Tharp Hampton. He was married Oct. 27, 1945, in Fulton, to Hazel Jean Gathright, who survives at the home.

He worked as a field mechanic for the Missouri State Highway Department, retiring in 1985 after 29 years. He also operated his farm. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Deanna Hudson and Nina Hampton, both of Fulton, and Gwendolyn Jacobsen, Grand Forks, N.D.; two brothers, Delbert Hampton, Fulton, and Oscar Hampton, New Bloomfield; two sisters, Velma Rees and Sally Harris, Pittsburg; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Chellie McClatchey will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Dixie Christian Church, Dixie.

JOHNSON

Flora Johnson, 91, Independence, formerly of Macks Creek, died Jan. 26, 2003, at the Grove Nursing Home, Independence.

She was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Macks Creek, a daughter of Wylie and Lula McVey Vance. She was married December 1931, in Macks Creek, to Emmitt Johnson, who preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Macks Creek.

Survivors include: three daughters, Marie Steagall and Thelma Simmons, both of Independence, Wanda Walker, Fredericktown; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

One grandson and one great-granddaughter preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dean Rooffener will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hedges Funeral Home, Macks Creek.

LAUBE

Russell R. Laube, 95, Mokane, died Jan. 26, 2003, at Riverview Nursing Center, Mokane.

He was born July 8, 1907, in Callaway County, a son of Richard and Pauline Heying Laube. He was married April 16, 1941, in St. Charles, to Nellie Schmid Laube, who survives at the home.

He owned and operated Mokane Telephone Exchange until 1956. He worked for the REA until his retirement in 1972. He was a 60-year member and past master of Mokane Masonic Lodge 612 AF&AM. He was a charter member of Mokane Lion's Club and was a member of Mokane City Council. He served on the boards of Mokane Water Coop and Riverview Nursing Home.

Other survivors include: one sister, Alma Schmid, Portland.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Pastor Richard Payne and Pastor Lawrence H. Sapp Jr., will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Mokane United Methodist Church.

MARSCH

Martha Humphreys Marsch, 86, Fulton, died Jan. 27, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born May 28, 1916, in Carrington, a daughter of Carson R. and Cenie McCarty Humphreys.

She taught school in several rural schools in Callaway County. She retired in 1983 after teaching at Center School for 17 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Fulton. She was a member of Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of the Retired Teachers of Missouri.

Survivors include: one son, Ron Marsch,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Carol Williams, Quincy, Ill.; one sister, Mary Ruth Rentschler, Fulton; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step great-grandson.

One infant son preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Doyle Sager and the Rev. Murray Buschert will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in Fulton.

MORTON

Bonnie G. Morton, 71, Hallsville, died Jan. 27, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

She was born June 7, 1931, in Columbia, a daughter of Leslie P. Tharp and Gladys Adkins. She was married Aug. 27, 1950, in Columbia, to Gaylord Morton, who preceded her in death.

She was retired from Shelter Insurance, where she had worked in bookkeeping as a clerk. She was a member of the Bethany Church in Columbia.

Survivors include: one son, Perry Morton, Hallsville; one daughter, Vickie Pauley, Columbia; one sister, Ina Kay Tandy, Livermore, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. John Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hartsburg.

Memorials are suggested to the Columbia Visiting Nurses.

SCHONDELMEYER

Nancy Schondelmeyer, 82, Columbia, formerly of  Jefferson City, died Jan. 27, 2003, at The Bluffs Nursing Home, Columbia.

Arrangements are at Buescher Memorial Home.

THOMPSON

Randy York Thompson, 36, Hartsburg, died Jan. 26, 2003, at his home.

He was born Aug. 1, 1966, in  Jefferson City. His father, Ronald Thompson, survives in California. His mother, Ilona Johnson, survives in  Jefferson City. He was married March 25, 1995, in Hartsburg, to Janice Martin, who survives in Hartsburg.

He was a warehouse driver for Carter Water's Construction Company, Columbia. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: two sons, Cole Thompson, Hartsburg and Lance Bingaman, Taos; two daughters, Jessica Sommerer,  Jefferson City, and Megan Thompson, Hartsburg; one brother, Rick Thompson,  Jefferson City; one half brother, Ryan Thompson, California; and two sisters, Vicki Wineland, Dallas, Texas , and Buffy Phillips-Kiss,  Jefferson City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. John Hobratschk will officiate. Burial will be in Shaning Cemetery, Belle.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Randy Thompson Children's Trust Fund, c/o Main Street Bank, Ashland, Mo., 65010.

VERHARST

Susan Verharst, 89, Belle, died Jan. 16, 2003, at her home.

She was born June 11, 1913, in Harrisburg, Ill., a daughter of Sam and Elizabeth Bain Ripperdan. She was married in 1933 in St. Louis, to August E. Verharst, who preceded her in death.

She worked in a small arms plant during World War II and was a homemaker. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Collinsville, Ill.

Survivors include: one son, Ronald Verharst, Belle; one sister, Mary Lou Spurlock, Dyer, Ind.; and one granddaughter.

The body was donated to medical science.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
