RHODES
Phil Rhodes, 50, Olean, died Jan. 29, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1952, in Tuscumbia, a son of John W. and Emily Snyder Rhodes. He was married Dec. 20, 1982, in Eldon, to Jewel Hull, who survives at the home.
He was an Army veteran and a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.
Other survivors include: one son, Phillip Rhodes, Jr. of Olean; two daughters, Tiffany D. Rhodes, and Carrie Ekstam, both of Olean; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Justin K. Rhodes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Ron Hess will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Tuscumbia.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.
Memorials are suggested in care of the family.
STIEFERMAN
Bernard E. "Bernie" Stieferman, 69, Loose Creek, died Jan. 31, 2003, at his home.
He was born Nov. 16, 1933, in Frankenstein, the son of John H. and Margaret Brandt Stieferman. He was married April 27, 1957, in Linn, to Carol J. Koenigsfeld, who survives at the home.
He attended school in Frankenstein.
He worked with Taylor Machine and Manufacturing Co., Peoria, Ill., was a plant manager at McGraw-Edison, Jefferson City, and also worked at Shopsmith, Inc., Moberly Correctional Center and Missouri Vocational Enterprises, Jefferson City.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek, and the Missouri Vocational Enterprises Board.
Other survivors include: four sons, Kevin A. Stieferman, Leavenworth, Kan., Scott A. Stieferman, Linn, Dale M. Stieferman, Hickory Hill, and Keith B. Stieferman, Jefferson City; one daughter, Sandy Maassen, Jefferson City; three sisters, Dorothy Neuner and Marcella Koenigsfeld, both of Linn, and Gerry Broker, Frankenstein; one brother, Don Stieferman, Frankenstein; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Fr. Gregory Meystrick will officiate. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Church or the Missouri River Hospice Memorial Fund.
BRANCH
Cynthia M. Branch, 36, Steedman, died Feb. 2, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born July 28, 1966, in Columbia, a daughter of Robert Jr., and Betty Chick Jones, who survive in Harrisburg. She was married in 1983, to Steven Branch, who survives at the home.
She worked at Fulton State Hospital as a security attendant.
Other survivors include: one son, Steven Branch Jr., Steedman; three sisters, Donna Jones Laswell, Fulton, Judy Jones, Steedman, and Nancy Jones, Holts Summit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Fulton.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to St. Marys Health Center Cancer Fund.
CLAYTON
Frank H. Clayton Jr., 81, Camdenton, died Jan. 31, 2003, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.
He was born May 3, 1921, in Kansas City, a son of Frank H. Sr., and Bertha Haworth Clayton. He was married to Jeannette Farmer, who preceded him in death.
He was a brakeman for Milwaukee Railroad. He was a member of the UTU, American Legion and the DAV. He moved to Camdenton after retiring and operated an electrical repair shop. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: two stepdaughters, Patsy Jones, Belton, and Jerry Sue Carter, Scott, Ariz.; one brother, Kenneth E. Clayton, Overland Park, Kan.; one sister, Anna Marie Swanson, Kansas City; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
DUNGAN
Paul K. Dungan, 63, Barnett, died Feb. 1, 2003, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
He was born March 20, 1939, in Philadelphia, a son of John H. and Millicent Stackhouse Dungan. He was married Aug. 16, 2000, in Tuscumbia, to Dee Johnson, who survives at the home.
He was a professional musician, a photographer, a licensed Coast Guard boat captain, a teacher at the School of the Osage and was a school administrator. He was a member of the Osage Teacher Association, Amvets, Elks, American Legion, VFW Post 229 and was a sponsor of the National Honor Society.
Other survivors include: one brother, David Dungan, Lake Ozark.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
Memorials are suggested to the Paul Dungan Scholarship Fund, in care of Central Bank of Lake of the Ozark.
ETIER
James Robert "Bob" Etier, 72, Camdenton, died Jan. 31, 2003, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.
He was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Paonia, Colo., a son of Clarence and Elsa Etier. His mother survives in Fresno, Calif. He was married May 8, 1952, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Barbara Schley, who survives at the home.
He was foreman for a construction company. He was a member of Labors Union 113 and the VFW. He was a Navy veteran.
Other survivors include: one son. Andy Etier, Milwaukee; two daughters, Laurie Sutton, Kansas City, and Robin Jacobson, Waukesha, Wis.; two sisters, Marie Knepper, North Fork, Calif., and Clara Holt, Paonia, Colo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
GIPSON
Cathleen D. Gipson, 99, Jefferson City, died Feb. 1, 2003, at Capital Healthcare Center.
She was born June 8, 1903, in Lake County, Tenn., a daughter of Clay and Rose Brown Driskill. She was married Aug. 22, 1923, to James Thomas Baty, who died Feb. 21, 1952. She was married April 1, 1961, to Clifford Lee Gipson Sr., who died Jan. 13, 1967.
She attended school in Helena, Ark., and was a graduate of Ensley High School, Ensley, Ala. She retired from the Division of Family Services in 1973 as county director of Scott County. She had served as county director in St. Genevieve, Franklin and Mississippi counties. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sikeston, where she taught the Arbutus Sunday school class for 26 years. She served on the board of directors of the Sikeston Nutrition Center, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a volunteer at Sikeston Mental Health Center. In 1994, she was Mrs. Meadow Brook in the Mrs. Nursing Home contest. She was first runner-up in the District 7 contest and was second runner-up in the State Nursing Home contest.
Survivors include: one daughter, Norma J. Lenon, Jefferson City: two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Friends Cemetery, Oran. The Rev. Dick Ramsey will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to Capital Healthcare Center Activity Fund or the Capital Region Medical Center Partners Nursing Scholarship Fund, 1125 Madison St., Jefferson City, Mo., or a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.
LIBBERT
Arthur John Libbert, 81, Laurie, died Feb. 2, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1921, in Meta, a son of Theodore and Elizabeth Bax Libbert. He was married May 9, 1951, in Meta, to Lucille Deeken, who survives at the home.
He was a farmer in the Koeltztown area and worked at DeLong's in Jefferson City and Sedalia for 26 years until his retirement to the Lake of the Ozarks. He was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Laurie.
Other survivors include: two sons, Roger Libbert, Sedalia, and Dale Libbert, Columbia; two daughters, Dr. Evelyn Jorgenson, Moberly, and Ruth Palasi, Sedalia; three brothers, Ralph Libbert, Russellville, Lawrence Libbert, St. Charles and Jerome Libbert, Barnett; two sisters, Mathilda Schwartze, Argyle, and Mary Ann Wieberg, Rich Fountain.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Meta. The Rev. John Schutty will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Meta, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
