BRIZENDINE

Inez L. Brizendine, 84, Brunswick, formerly of Tipton, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall.

She was born June 6, 1918, in DeWitt, a daughter of Jeff and Sallie Hickerson Adkins. She was married July 22, 1944, in Kansas City, to Ray Brizendine, who died April 17, 1998.

She graduated from DeWitt High School. She worked for Lee Wall's Manufacturing, Kansas City, and later at Tipton Pants Factory until her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the DeWitt Community Betterment Club and DeWitt Christian Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Patsy Lybarger, Brunswick, and Sandra Koechner, Tipton; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California. The Rev. Lanny Lybarger will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to DeWitt Christian Church, DeWitt, Mo., 64639.

CARTMELL

Nancy Cartmell, 63, Vienna, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born April 7, 1939, in Bristow, Okla., a daughter of Oliver and Nida Wheatley Sisson. She was married March 20, 1956, in Pawnee, Okla., to Eldon Cartmell Sr., who survives in  Jefferson City.

She was a cook for the Maries R-1 School and was associate circuit clerk for Maries County for 20 years.

Other survivors include: one son, Eldon Cartmell Jr., Vienna; one daughter, Nyla Cartmell,  Jefferson City; three brothers, Dwayne "Chuck" Sisson, Tulsa, Okla., James "Jim" Sisson, Bayard, W. Va., and Michael "Mike" Sisson, Taos; and one grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Dwayne Sisson will officiate. Burial will be in Breeding Cemetery, Freeburg.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Dallas Cartmell Education Fund.

FULLER

James B. Fuller, 75, Laurie, died Feb. 2, 2003, in Amarillo, Texas .

He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of Thomas and Marie Roth Fuller. He was married Oct. 16, 1964, in Great Bend, Kan., to Lila M. Rogers, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Kansas State University majoring in accounting. He was city clerk of Ellinwood, Kan., for more than 20 years. He owned and operated Bay Ridge Resort near Sunrise Beach for 14 years. The resort gained honorable mention in Bon Apetite Magazine in 1993. He retired in 1991. He was a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. He was active in the Highway Five Association, was a volunteer firefighter, scout master, was a volunteer in local activities and city government. He was in the Naval Reserves and was a World War II veteran.

Other survivors include: one son, Steven Fuller, Seattle; one daughter, Patrice Ruth,  Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Dr. Jim Rogers, Amarillo, Texas , and Rod Rogers, Salina, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Paula Rogers, Hoisington, Kan., Linnette Carlson, Rio Rancho, N.M., and Janelle Dreiling, Frisco, Texas ; two brothers, Thomas Fuller, Dallas, Texas , and Dale Fuller, Corpus Christi, Texas ; and seven grandchildren.

One son, the Rev. Gregory Fuller, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kan.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

Memorials are suggested to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church.

HILBURN

Reba L. Hilburn, 83, Versailles, died Feb. 2, 2003, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Wyburg, Ky., a daughter of Charley and Maggie Miller. She was adopted at age 9 by Henry and Maggie Otten, Stover.

She was a member of West Union Baptist Church, near Versailles.

Survivors include: three daughters, Shirley Dority, Stover, Joyce Bowers, Versailles, and Judy Stevenson, Placentia, Calif.; one brother, Noble Otten, Roscoe, Ill.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Dallas Moritz will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

LEPPER

Mary Magdaline Lepper, 64, Eugene, died Feb. 2, 2003, in  Jefferson City.

She was born July 14, 1938, in Kansas City, a daughter of Peter J. and Matilda Kathryn Loethen Osterman. She was married in April 1970 to Victor A. Lepper, who died in 1971. She was married May 13, 1972, in Mary's Home, to Freddie H. Lepper, who survives at the home.

She graduated Redemptorist High School in Kansas City in 1955. She worked with the Western Auto home office in Kansas City, St. Marys Health Center, and as secretary for Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School, Mary's Home. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.

Other survivors include: one son, Anthony J. Lepper, of the home; three daughters, Monica M. Lepper, of the home, Vicky A Scott,  Jefferson City, and Susan L. Eichholz, Taos; one brother, J. B. Osterman, Blue Springs; two sisters, Patricia A. Schaffer,  Jefferson City, and Delores M. Kempker, Sedalia; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. The Rev. Clarence Wiederholt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Mary's Home, with a rosary at 3 and 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School.

SMITH

Carole E. Smith, 57, Fountain Inn, S.C., died Feb. 1, 2003, at Hillcrest Hospital, Simpsonville, S.C.

She was born Nov. 7, 1945, in Gravois Mills, a daughter of John and Elaine Power McKinley. Her mother survives in Gravois Mills.

She was a homemaker and a nurses aid.

Other survivors include: one son, Mark Smith, Greer, S.C.; one daughter, April Lambe, Simpsonville; four brothers, John McKinley, Plano, Texas , Richard McKinley, Collins, Charles McKinley, Converse, Texas , and Mike McKinley, Bessemer, Ala.; one grandson; and step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kidwell Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Sidney Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in the Holst Cemetery, Gravois Mills.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

THOMPSON

Lennie Hazel Whitaker Thompson, 91, Iberia, died Feb. 1, 2003, at Miller County Care Center, Tuscumbia.

She was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Miller County, a daughter of Benton and Dessie Decota Humphrey Whitaker. She was married April 27, 1935, in Tuscumbia, to Wayne B. Thompson, who died March 10, 1992.

She was a lifelong resident of Iberia and graduated from Iberia Academy. She attended junior college in Iberia. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Lincoln University and did graduate work at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg and the University of Missouri-Columbia.

She taught for 18 years in rural schools in Miller and Maries counties. She taught for 18 years in the Waynesville School district and for four years in the Education Center in Ft. Leonard Wood. She was a member of the Pulaski Area Retired Teachers Association and Kappa Kappa Iota Teachers Sorority.

She was a member of Brays Advent Christian Church, Iberia, where she sang in the choir and served as clerk, deaconess, and on the church board. She was a member of the Women's Foreign Mission Society of the church and a member of Iberia Garden Club. She volunteered at Iberia Friendship Center.

Survivors include: one daughter, Joyce Lee Bornkamp, Rockford, Ill.; three brothers, Calvin Whitaker, Iberia, Archie Whitaker, Dixon and Leo Whitaker, Trenton; four sisters, Velma Welch, Dixon, Erma Williams, Eldon, Gladys Slone, Tuscumbia, and Edith Duckworth, Liberty; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brays Advent Christian Church. The Rev. Earl Skidds will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

Memorials are suggested to Brays Advent Christian Church.

COOPER

Lois Lillian Cooper, 89, Brentwood, Tenn., formerly of  Jefferson City, died Jan. 18, 2003.

She was born June 2, 1913, in Crane, a daughter of Len Williams. She was married to D. H. Pat Wardlaw, who died in 1964. She was married in 1981 to Walter L. Cooper.

She graduated from the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri. She received a master's degree in education and taught in the  Jefferson City public schools for 20 years, where she helped implement the first elementary school counseling program. She was instrumental in the John Knox Village books for the blind. She was a member of Overland Park Church of Christ in Kansas. She was a member of the Missouri State Teacher's Association, J. Z. Chapter of PEO, the Lee's Summit Community Hospital Auxiliary and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sara L. Neutzler, Brentwood, and Dortha Lou Feller, Cushing, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

Services and burial will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the David Cooper Memorial Scholarship; Arkansas Lung Association, 412 W. 7th St., Little Rock, Ark. 72203; or Christian Family Services of Kansas, 10300 Antioch, Overland Park, Kan. 66212.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mount Olivet Funeral Home, Nashville, Tenn.
