WEST

Herschel West, 86, Russellville, died Feb. 13, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Russellville, a son of Alonzo and Stella Watts West. He was married June 15, 1940, to Maxine Shikles, who died May 8, 1987. He was married July 24, 1988, to Marcella Koestner, who survives at the home.

He owned a grocery store in Fulton, managed the MFA in Russellville and Enon and was employed by the City of Russellville. He worked for Cheseborough Ponds in  Jefferson City, drove a school bus and retired from the maintenance department of Cole County R-1 school district.

He served as an alderman for the City of Russellville. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church, near Russellville.

Other survivors include: two sons, Keith West,  Jefferson City, and Kevin West, Omaha, Neb.; one stepson, Jerry Koestner, Lohman; one daughter, Joyce Bland, Dayton, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Jane Jones, Lohman; one brother, Charles Guenther, Kansas City; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Enon Baptist Church. The Rev. Randy Trumbo will officiate. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery, Russellville.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Russellville.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

BOLTEN

Carolyn Sue Bolten, 63, Russellville, died Feb. 14, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 21, 1939, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Marvin and Lorene Bohannon Branson. She was married Sept. 19, 1986, to David Bolten, who survives at the home.

She worked with the USDA office, Columbia.

She was a member of Russellville Baptist Church and led the Bible study group at Russellville Senior Housing.

Other survivors include: two sons, David Nichols and Donald Woods, both of Ashland; one stepdaughter, Michelle Bolten, Irving, Texas ; one brother, Dale Branson,  Jefferson City; one sister, Judy Harrison, Russellville; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Young will officiate. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery, Russellville.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Carolyn Bolten Memorial Fund.

RIMBEY

Loretta M. Rimbey, 86, St. Thomas, died Feb. 14, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Osage County, a daughter of Frank and Emma Schmitz Lock. She was married Sept. 6, 1939, in Estes Park, Colo., to Clyde "Bill" Russell Rimbey, who died March 24, 1986.

She lived most of her married life in Colorado, returning to Missouri in 1974 following her husband's retirement. A member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas, she was active in St. Ann's Sodality, the Over 50 Club, and the Ladies Sewing Circle.

Survivors include: one sister, Isabella Haslag, Loose Creek and one brother, Clyde Lock,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Porterfield will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Loose Creek.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors --  Jefferson City Chapel, where a prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Thomas the Apostle School or to St. Marys Health Center.

SMITH

Ruby Mae Smith, 72,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 14, 2003, died at Beverly Health and Rehab Center,  Jefferson City.

She was born Oct. 13, 1930, in Chillicothe, a daughter of James L. McLallen and Elsie M. Tindall McLallen Sigman. She was married Nov. 15, 1955, to Buel F. Smith.

She attended school in Chillicothe and was a 1965 graduate of the Kansas City Auctioneering School.

She worked at the Ruby Smith Auctioneering Co., Chillicothe.

Survivors include: one son, Michael E. Smith,  Jefferson City; two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Capital City Christian Church.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Capital City Christian Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe.

SMITH

Virginia G. Smith, 70,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 14, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born June 14, 1932, a daughter of Harold J. and Maude H. Boulware Sanders. She was married June 28, 1951, in  Jefferson City, to William F. Updegraff, who survives.

She was a 1951 graduate of  Jefferson City High School. A homemaker, she was employed with the Capital City Telephone Company and later as the head of the housekeeping department at Ramada Inn until retiring in 1985.

She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church; a member of the board of directors and a volunteer with the Clarke Senior Nutrition Center; and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Other survivors include: three sons, Steve E. Updegraff, Blue Springs, Randy Updegraff,  Jefferson City, and Kim Smith, Holts Summit; two sisters, Betty Jacobsen,  Jefferson City, and Joyce Abernathy,  Jefferson City; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Shane Crum will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Clarke Senior Nutrition Center.

SPICER

Donald Spicer, 55,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 14, 2003, at his home.

He was born Aug. 7, 1947, in Carterville, Ill., a son of Clarence and Bernice Miller Spicer. He was married Sept. 3, 1968, in Waynesville to Janet Woemmel, who survives at the home.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Algoa Correctional Center from 1974 until retiring in 2001 as a cook III supervisor. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.

Other survivors include: two sons, Donnie Spicer and Derrick Spicer, both of  Jefferson City; one brother, George R. Spicer, Wolflake, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors --  Jefferson City Chapel. The Rev. Bart Larson will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Bland Baptist Church Cemetery in Bland. The Rev. Leo Robinson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Missouri River Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.

WILLIAMS

Thomas E. Williams, 72, Clarksburg, died Feb. 14, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born May 7, 1930, in Phillchambell, Ala., a son of Edward and Myrtie Willis Williams. He was married Feb. 11, 1950, in Pocahontas, Ark., to Martha Emerson, who survives at the home.

He attended school in Mississippi and was an Army and National Guard Reserves veteran.

He worked for REA, Poplar Bluff, was an industrial machinist for International Shoe Co. and for California Manufacturing Co. He was also a carpenter and cabinet maker.

He was a member of Clarksburg Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: one son, Thomas D. Williams,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Angela D. Ventimiglia, Blue Spring, and Kathy Parrott, Grain Valley; one brother, Ray Williams, Humboldt, Tenn.; two sisters, Marie Randolph, Nettleton, Miss., and Avis Rollins, Amory, Miss.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. The Rev. Leroy Moon will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Black Creek Cemetery, near Poplar Bluff.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Clarksburg Baptist Church.
