DENNEY
Irene Denney, 81, Lake Ozark, died Feb. 17, 2003, in Osage Beach.
She was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Plain Dealing, La., a daughter of Elmer Barnett and Stella Norris Brown. She was married March 29, 1965, in Lake Ozark, to Ray A. Denney, who died July 1, 1991.
She moved to Lake Ozark from Kansas City in 1961. She and her husband owned and operated Denney's Service Station in Lake Ozark until retirement. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Patricia Price, Kansas City, and Paula Elkin, Lake Ozark; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. James Pohl will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Lake Ozark Christian Church.
GIFFORD
Josephine H. Gifford, 100, California, died Feb. 17, 2003, at California Care Center.
She was born April 20, 1902, in Forest City, a daughter of John and Anna Marie Igoe Birmingham. She was married Dec. 29, 1923, in Forest City, to Herman Gifford, who died March 31, 1972.
She was a graduate of Forest City High School and attended St. Joseph School of Nursing.
She was a nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Holts Summit.
Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Mohler, Jefferson City, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
One infant daughter, Patricia Gifford, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, Jefferson City. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Oregon City Cemetery, Oregon.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to California Care Center Memorial Fund.
HACHTEL
Wilma L. Hachtel, 69, Dixon, died Feb. 16, 2003, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.
She was born April 22, 1933, in Miller County, a daughter of Owen and Lucy Humphrey Lawson. She was married to Sherman Hachtel, who preceded her in death.
She owned and operated restaurants in Dixon and Iberia. She was a member of VFW and Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post 298, both in Dixon.
Survivors include: two sons, Darrel French, Dixon, and Paul Brice Veasman, Harrison, Ark.; six daughters, Diane Evans, Pocahontas, Ark., Betty Wagner, Bland, Norma Martin, Bolivar, Janet Parker and Neta Jo Sims, both of Dixon, and Connie Allen, Vienna; two brothers, Clifford Lawson, Marshfield, and Louie Lawson, Dixon; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. The Rev. Steve Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery, near Dixon.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.
LIPSKOCH
Beulah Alvina Lipskoch, 79, Linn, died Feb. 17, 2003, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born June 4, 1923, in Hope, a daughter of Ernest S. and Freda Laubert Lipskoch.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended school in Hope. She worked at Linn Department Store for 28 years before retiring. She attended Oklahoma Church of Christ. She served as deputy circuit clerk in Osage County from 1948-1950.
Survivors include: one nephew, William G. Lipskoch, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. J. Joseph Trower will officiate. Burial will be in Oklahoma Church Cemetery, Osage County.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Oklahoma Church Cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.
McCUBBIN
Giles H. "Mac" McCubbin, 84, Creve Coeur, died Feb. 16, 2003, at his home.
He was born May 28, 1918, in Brumley, a son of Clyde L. and Ella Shepard McCubbin. He was married Nov. 10, 1945, in Detroit, to Margaret Handke, who survives at the home.
He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves. He was a veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: two sons, Dennis McCubbin and Garry McCubbin, both of St. Louis; five daughters, Susan Miller, Nancy Klipfel, Mary Sinclair, Jacqueline Becker and Jeannine Celestine, all of St. Louis; one brother, Dennis McCubbin, Lancaster; one sister, Ruby Spearman, Iberia; 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Hickory Point Cemetery, near Iberia.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
RUGGLES
Louis James Ruggles, 87, Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Gasconade, died Feb. 16, 2003, at Alterra Sterling House, Clarksville.
He was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Gasconade, a son of Marcellus and Lillian Bricker Ruggles. He was married Oct. 13, 1936, to Ina B. Casey, who survives in Clarksville.
He graduated from Hermann High School. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and the University of Missouri-Rolla. He was marine foreman for the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Gasconade Union Church, the Hermann VFW, and Masonic Lodge and OES, both in Hermann. He was an Army veteran.
Other survivors include: one son, Bob Ruggles, Adams, Tenn.; two daughters, Joni Boss, Chamois, and Linda Casey, Jefferson City; one brother, Cecil Ruggles, El Cerrito, Calif.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gasconade Union Church. Burial will be in Gasconade Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.
SAPP
Mamie Katherine Sapp, 75, Ashland, died Feb. 15, 2003, at Ashland Healthcare Center.
She was born April 1, 1927, in Flippin, Ark., a daughter of John and Dovia Poplin Waggoner. She was married Jan. 25, 1947, to Estel Weldon Sapp, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Dix Road Church of Christ, Jefferson City, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include: one daughter, Judy Robinson, Columbia; one sister, Patricia Schulte, Jefferson City; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
One son, James Weldon Sapp, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Liberty Cemetery, Ashland. Pastor John Fussner will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia.
Memorials are suggested to New Liberty Cemetery or Missouri River Hospice, 3210 Bluff Creek Dr., Columbia Mo.
TATE
Charles Bernard Tate, 84, Fulton, died Feb. 16, 2003, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born June 30, 1918, in Mineola, a son of Leslie and Alma Smethen Tate. He was married June 30, 1946, in Fulton, to Lorene Hardin, who survives at the home.
He was a maintenance foreman for Fulton State Hospital. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was a member of the educational building committee. He was a deacon and taught Sunday school. He was a member of VFW and Gideons International. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: one son, Dale Tate, Fulton; one daughter, Judy Hosenfelt, Fulton; one brother, Glen Tate, Villa Ridge; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church. Ron Baker and the Rev. Walter Lockhart will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.
