GUFLER

Dolores M. Gufler, 82, Sunrise Beach, died April 2, 2003, at Bethesda Meadows, Ellisville.

She was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Kansas City, a daughter of Henry and Mary Spitzenel Frank. She was married to Fritz Gufler, who preceded her in death.

She lived in the Kansas City area for most of her life, moving to Sunrise Beach in 1983. She was assistant manager of the food service department at Willson Marketing Company, Kansas City, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Laurie, and was past president of the St. Patrick Guild. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity of Metropolitan Kansas City for many years.

Survivors include: four sons, Martin Gufler, Millbrae, Calif., Robert Gufler, Overland Park, Kan., David Gufler, Wildwood, and Philip Gufler, Springfield; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

LEONBERGER

Raymond J. W. "Jay" Leonberger, 83, Boonville, died April 3, 2003, in Columbia.

He was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Lilbourn, a son of Raymond A. and Ollie Willis Leonberger. He was married March 27, 1949, in Boonville, to Bennie Dorsey Jewett, who survives.

He attended college in Cape Girardeau. He owned and operated Leonberger Hardware from 1955 until he retired in 1985. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was in the Marine reserves until he retired in 1963 as a colonel. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in  Jefferson City, the VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include: two sons, Jay Jewett Leonberger, Wooldridge, and Robert Ray Leonberger,  Jefferson City; three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Disciples of Christ First Christian Church, Boonville. The Rev. Bob Eichenberger will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at William Wood Funeral Home, Boonville.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society-Heartland Division.

LUTZ

Mary Virginia Lutz, 72, Fulton, died April 2, 2003, at her home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Clinton, a daughter of Florian E. and Della Todd Julian. She was married Nov. 3, 1950, in Harrison, Ark., to Ron L. Lutz, who survives at the home.

She worked for Saults Drug Store in Fulton, then for Dr. Bob Barnett. She later had her own antique business, Lutz-n-Dot'ers. A homemaker, she was a member of the Eastern Star.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Vicki Miller, Steedman, Becki Acison, Fulton, and Chrisi Baker, Calwood; two half brothers, John Julian and Bud Julian, both of Clinton; three half sisters, Norma Doty, Wilda Davis and Lynn Julian, all of Clinton; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Her stepfather, Ralph Meeink, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Bruce Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in Steedman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer society, c/o Joneda Phillips, 1295 Mokane Road, Fulton, Mo. 65251.

MEISEL

Mildred A. Meisel, 80,  Jefferson City, died April 3, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born May 8, 1922, near Lohman, a daughter of Peter J. and Adelia Flessa Opel. She was married June 9, 1940, in California, to Henry W. Meisel, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, she attended school in Stringtown. She was a homemaker and a cook with the  Jefferson City Public Schools for several years. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Dorcas Society, a braille worker and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Other survivors include: three sons, Larry Meisel and James Meisel, both of  Jefferson City, and Leroy Meisel, Ft. Worth, Texas ; two sisters, Ruth Hirschman, Springfield, and Waneda Sarasin, Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tony Alter and the Rev. Alvin Lange will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Word of Faith Radio Ministry or Faith Lutheran Church.

NICHOLS

Lillian A. Nichols, 88,  Jefferson City, died April 3, 2003, at Heisinger Lutheran Home.

She was born Feb. 2, 1915, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Jacob and Eugenie Nieghborn Schmutzler. She was married June 25, 1947, in  Jefferson City, to Melvin Nichols, who died Feb. 28, 1993.

She attended Trinity Lutheran School and was a graduate of  Jefferson City High School. She worked as a sales person for Montgomery Wards for several years until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church Auxiliary and the Trinity Circle 2.

Survivors include one son, Michael Allen Nichols,  Jefferson City, and two step granddaughters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Hobratschk will officiate. Entombment will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.

SCRUDDER

Amos Scrudder, 78, California, died April 2, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

SMITH

William Edwin Smith, 34,  Jefferson City, died April 3, 2003, at his home.

He was born Sept. 12, 1968, in Kansas City, a son of Margaret Smith. His mother and stepfather, Margaret and Joe Petershagen, survive in  Jefferson City. He was married Oct. 4, 2002, in  Jefferson City, to Janet Haselhorst, who survives at the home.

He was a 1986 graduate of  Jefferson City High School and was a musician.

Other survivors include: two stepdaughters, Camille Haselhorst and Amber Purcell, both of the home; and one stepbrother, Joseph Petershagen,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the Camille Haselhorst Educational Fund.

CAMPBELL

Clara Marie Campbell, 62, Fulton, died April 3, 2003, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born April 16, 1940, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Algie H. and Alma B. Kroll Hassler.

She worked for Kingdom Projects, Fulton.

Survivors include: three sons, Mark Best, Mike Best and Lonnie Best; four brothers, Charles Hassler, Wichita, Kan., Houston Hassler, Garden City, Kan., John Hassler, Syracuse, Kan., and Algie Hassler, state of California; two sisters, Mary Culp, Marshall, and Effie Vader, Fulton.

One infant daughter preceded her in death.

Services will be at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home.

CLAIBORN

Fran Claiborn, 57, Crocker, died April 3, 2003, at St. John's-Breech Regional Medical Center, Lebanon.

She was born Sept. 29, 1945, in Richland, a daughter of Bly and Beatrice Saltzman Miller. She was married June 7, 1963, in Richland, to Jerry Claiborn, who survives at the home.

She was a nurse at Richland Care Center.

Other survivors include: one son, Jeffrey Claiborn, Crocker; three daughters, Denise York, Christena Claiborn Moore and Cara Chamberlain, all of Crocker; two sisters, Janice Henson, Newburg, and Patty Kay Sullivan, St. Charles; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Long Funeral Home, Crocker. The Rev. Billy Claiborn will officiate. Burial will be in Crocker Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
