GREENE

Dr. Thomasina Talley Greene, 89, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Villa Marie Nursing Center.

Dr. Greene was born June 29, 1913 at Nashville, Tennessee the daughter of Thomas W. and Ellen Roberts Talley, both deceased. She was married on December 12, 1942 at Hillsboro, Mo. to Dr. Lorenzo J. Greene, who preceded her in death on January 24, 1988.

Dr. Greene began her music education with piano lessons at the age of five. She continued her music education at Fisk University, from which she graduated at the age of fifteen. She then entered the Juilliard School in Music in New York, where she was awarded a scholarship for three years, and at Columbia University from which she received the degree of Doctor of music and music education. Her work at the latter institution was financed by fellowships from the John D. Rockefeller Foundation. She also studied privately with the famed pianist, Abrasha Brodsky, and took refresher courses at Tanglewood and Kansas State University.

She gained a national reputation as a pianist and won acclaim in recitals at Steinway Hall, Town Hall, Riverside Church and Columbia University in New York; Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford, Connecticut; Kimball Hall in Chicago; Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis; and Music Hall in Kansas City; as well as many other cities.

Her artistry at the piano made her popular on many college campuses including Columbia University, Slippery Rock State Teachers College, Johnson State Normal College, Morgan College and many others including Lincoln University in  Jefferson City, Mo. She also appeared at the University of British Columbia. By popular request of the passengers and the captain, she played a recital in the "Ravel Room" of the S.S. France while enroute to Europe. As a soloist, she appeared with the Columbia University and the Riverside Symphony of New York City, and also played over N.B.C. and C.B.S.

She was talented in other fields. She was a painter of considerable ability. She won the highest award at the Southwestern Exhibit in San Antonio, Texas . Her prize winning painting still hangs in the Breckenridge Museum in San Antonio.

She belonged to many professional, social, and welfare organizations. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, a member of the American Assn. of University Women, a member of the National Assn. of Music Teachers, a member of the State and National Federation of Music Clubs, a member of the Missouri Assn. for Social Welfare, a member of the N.A.A.C.P., a member of the Kappa Delta PI, and a member of the PI Lambda Theta.

She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, where she had served as organist and choir director and was an active volunteer with the Community Concert Assn.

In 1963, Dr. Greene was chosen one of four Women of Achievement for  Jefferson City. She was awarded the A.A.U.W. National Fellowship and was appointed to the National Society of Arts and Literature. Dr. Greene taught private piano lessons for many years until illness forced her retirement in 1991.

Survivors include: one son: Lorenzo Thomas Greene and his wife Debra, of  Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandchildren; Lorenzo Foster Greene and Logan Thomas Clemente Greene.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Grace Episcopal Church with the Reverend Harvel Sanders officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monay, June 9, 2003.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Assn. or the Grace Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

MCGINTY

Mr. Dale Edward McGinty, 65, of Lodi, CA, died May 24, 2003, at the Lodi Memorial Hospital, Lodi, CA

He was born and raised in  Jefferson City, MO. He attended local schools before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He was married February 6, 1959 to Donna A. Voegele, in Reno, NV.

He was a retired Groceries Retail Clerk. He also worked at Savemart in Stockton, CA. He was a member of the Lodi Moose Lodge (LOTM). He enjoyed fishing, golfing, computer games and traveling.

He was survived by his wife: Donna McGinty, of Lodi; 3 daughters: Patricia Loebs and Sharon Laws of Lodi, Pamela Rodriguez of Stockton; 5 grandchildren; 1 brother and 2 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and June McGinty.

Services were held Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in Lodi, CA.

RACKERS

Alice Marie Rackers, 76, of Wardsville, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at University Hospital in Columbia.

She was born on June 4, 1927 in Wardsville, the daughter of Paul Peter and Mary Bock Mertens. She was married on Oct. 29, 1946 in Wardsville to Vernon Emil Rackers who survives at the home.

She attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church; Married Ladies Sodality; Over-Fifty Club; and the Women of Wardsville.

Other survivors include two sons and their wives, Richard and Gerri Rackers, Wardsville and Thomas and Tammy Rackers,  Jefferson City; six daughters and their husbands, Sharon A. Rackers, Meta; Margie & Alfred Kaiser, St. Thomas; Janie Rackers and her fiance, Fred Shiver, both of Chamois; Marilyn "Cookie" and Daniel "Cotton" Verslues, Taos; Julie and Michael Kever, Wardsville; and Becky and Joe Britton, Wardsville; nineteen grandchildren, Abbey Stumpe, Beth Borgmeyer, Jessie Kaiser, Brad Rackers, Sara Luebbering, Brian Rackers, Mandy McCutchen, Nicole Kever, Ann Kever, Jacob Verslues, Lucas Verslues, Jennifer Verslues, Danielle Woods, Branden Rackers, Brandi Britton, Michelle Britton, Marie Britton, Rachel Britton, and Adam Britton; seven great-grandchildren; Macy Rackers, Ty Luebbering, Bo Luebbering, Lillian McCutchen, Alex Kever, Jacob Verslues, Jr. and Chelsea Thiel; and a half-sister, Pauline Bretthorst, St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mothers, Mame Mertens and Johanna Mertens; a son, Harry J. Rackers; a grandson, Paul Kaiser; brothers, George, Lawrence, Louis, Bernard, Edward, Joseph, Otto, and William Mertens; and sisters, Clara Schulte, Frances Veit, and Augusta Frank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis E. Dorn officiating. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Wardsville.

Visitation will be from 4 8 p.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Stanislaus Education Foundation, 6414 Route W,  Jefferson City, MO 65101; or a charity of the donor's choice.

RACKERS

Dorothy Elizabeth Rackers, 81, of  Jefferson City, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2003, in the chapel of St. Peter Catholic Church,  Jefferson City. The Rev. Donald W. Lammers and Deacon Robert J. Rackers will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to Masses or to St. Peter Church Building Fund, 216 Broadway,  Jefferson City, MO 65101. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BROWN

Ronald Dale Brown, Sr., 59, Ashland, Mo., died Monday, June 9 at the Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born April 12, 1944 in Beaver, Ok., the son of Jesse Albert Brown and Dortha Ruth Rose Brown.

He attended Ashland Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Yarborough High School in Guymon, Ok. Ronald enjoyed his grandchildren, football, fishing and reading. He retired in 1995 from Dolly Madison, Inc., where he worked as a salesman.

Survivors include: his mother, Dortha Ruth Brown of Hartsburg, Mo.; two sons, Ronald Dale Brown Jr. of Columbia and Jesse James Brown of Russellville; three daughters, Kathie Schenewerk of  Jefferson City, Mo., Angela Christian of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Chrystal Brown of Bowling Green, Mo.; five brothers, William Edward Brown of Columbia, Mo., Albert Brown of Louisville, Ky., Gary Brown of Ashland, Mo., Kerry Brown of Hartsburg, Mo. and Chuck Brown of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Joyce Boyd of Idaho and Lea Jane Floyd of Houston, Mo.; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one grandson, Matthew Schenewerk.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland, Mo. Burial will be at the New Salem Cemetery, Ashland, Mo.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Mid-Missouri Chapter of Alzheimers Association, 1121 Business Loop 70E, Columbia, MO 65201.

LAMBERT

Violet Lorraine Lambert (nee Much), died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the home of her son, Wayne Kenneth Lambert of Medford, OR.

She was born December 22, 1922 in St. Louis.

Survivors include: sisters, Charlotte Mae Kern (Lester), Leana Irene Lamprecht and Delores Norma Spangenberg (Robert); brothers, Charles Anthony Much (Helen) and Maurice Alfred Much (Geri); grandchildren, Jeannette Yvonne Lambert and Jeffrey Lambert; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lambert; 2 sisters, Mary Francis Much and Antoinette Emilie Hollingsworth.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in St. Louis.

ROGERS

Dorothy Ann Phillips Rogers, 68, died on Sunday, June 8, 2003.

She was a native of Tebbets, MO, and a former resident of Carroll County, TN. She was a Pentecostal Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was employed by Turner Dairies.

Ms. Rogers is the daughter of the late, Clarence and Nellie Gertrude Wittenberger Phillips. A brother, Harold D. Phillips and a sister, Gladys M. Phillips Payne precedes her in death. She is survived by two sons: Johnny Byars of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Steven Byars of Mt. Juliet, TN; one daughter: Kimberly J. Byars of Mt. Juliet, TN; five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to each service.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Bond Memorial Chapel with the Pastor Butch Martin officiating.

Additional Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Tebbetts United Methodist Church, in Tebbetts, MO, with the Rev. Larry Sapp officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Betty Adams, Memorial Chair, 14270 Lebanon Road, Old Hickory, TN 37138 or Tebbetts United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Rd., and Weston Dr., Mt. Juliet, TN, 773-2663.

SHIKLES

Bailey R. Shikles, 87, of Eldon, MO, died June 9 in Eldon, MO.

He was born March 15, 1916, the son of Enoch & Ann (Roark) Shikles. He was married on March 15, 1940 in Tuscumbia, MO to Louise Dorl.

He was member of the First Baptist Church of Eldon, MO.

Survivors include his wife: Louise Shikles of Eldon, MO; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 10 from 4-8 p.m. at the Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon, MO.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 11 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Buster officiating . Burial will follow in the Enloe Cemetery, Russellville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

PERKINS

Ruth Alice Perkins, 90 years, of  Jefferson City, died June 10, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born April 23, 1913 at McGirk, MO, the daughter of Millard A. and Sarah Johnson Cook. She was married June 27, 1931 at  Jefferson City, MO to Orlando D. Perkins, who preceded her in death January 5, 1984.

She attended school at Holts Summit, MO and New Bloomfield, MO. She was a member of the Concord Baptist Church, the Victoria Chapter No. 14, Order of Eastern Star and the U.T.U. Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and also had been a representative for Avon Products, Inc.

She is survived by one sister, Fern Anagnost of  Jefferson City, MO; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death, Kenneth D. Perkins who died April 7, 1997 and Pat Gibson who died in 1988.

Funeral services will be held at the Buescher Memorial Home, Thursday, 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Interment will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to the Heisinger Lutheran Home.

Visitation will be at the Buescher Memorial Home, Thursday, 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Buescher Memorial Home.
