BARKS
Kenneth Ray Barks, 68, of Eldon, departed this life peacefully on June 28, 2003, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.
He was born in Hahn, Missouri, on March 19, 1935, a son of Norman and Ada (Upton) Barks.
Survivors include: one son, William David Barks of Comfort, Texas ; four daughters, Sharon K. Hunter of Comfort, Texas , Rita Juedeman of Bristow, Oklahoma, Sheila Blocker of Bastrop Texas , and Eva Mae Barks of Dallas, Texas ; one stepdaughter, Sheryl Tennyson of Columbia; one stepson, Stephen Kleidosty of Pella, Iowa; his father, Norman Barks of Eldon; one brother, Bill Barks of St. Louis; one sister, Carolyn Vaughan of Eldon; twelve grandchildren, one step granddaughter, five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He owned and operated S & K Auto in Eldon for several years. He attended the Baptist Church.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Rev. Bob Vanderberg will officiate.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Eldon First Baptist Church Building Fund.
BEARD
Calvin Loyd Beard, 77, of Jefferson City formerly of Ulman, died June 29, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born in Ulman on January 20, 1926, a son of Ira and Charlotte (Huddleston) Beard. On May 16, 1949, in Camdenton, he was married to Shirley Kellison, who preceded him in death on January 11, 1993.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II where he served in the Ardennes, the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the EAMET Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Ribbon, and the Bel Fro-De Guerre. He was a member of the 99th Infantry Division Association and the Kaiser VFW Post #06514. He retired as Deputy Warden at the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City. He was a member of the Ulman Baptist Church. He was an avid Cardinal fan and a strong supporter of the Republican Party.
Those who survive him include: three daughters, Brenda Jaegers of Millersburg, and Connie Rackers and Linda Bray both of Jefferson City; one brother, Marvin Beard of Kaiser; three sisters, Berniece Walker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Alice Kelly of Davenport, Iowa, and Shirley Crowley of Bettendorf, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Jesse, Anne, and Gabriel.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Ulman Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Kessler will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Boltz Cemetery near Brumley. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.
DRENNAN
Charles Wayne Drennan, 46, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at St. Mary's Health Center.
He was born February 16, 1957, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of Jackie Ray Drennan and Delores Anne Hill.
He attended Tebbetts Grade School, Jefferson City High School and Columbia College.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather: Delores and Gary Carlos of Tebbetts; one son: Nathaniel Drennan of Vichy; one daughter: Tanya Halderman of Holts Summit; one grandmother: Helen Bunting of Tebbetts; one brother: Terry Drennan of Jefferson City; and three grandchildren: Austin Drennan of Vichy, Dillon and Dina Halderman of Holts Summit.
Friends will be received from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors - Jefferson City Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors - Jefferson City Chapel, with Rev. Murl Nash officiating. A private interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Tebbetts, Missouri.

DUDENHOEFFER
Edwin Paul Dudenhoeffer, 80, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at his residence.
He was born on July 30, 1922 in Loose Creek, the son of Jacob Dudenhoeffer and Katharina Ebert Dudenhoeffer. He was married on November 25, 1941 in Bonnots Mill, MO to Beulah Agatha Kirsch who survives at the home.
Mr. Dudenhoeffer was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II earning five bronze stars during his service from 1943 to 1945. He was employed with Lincoln Engineering Company, St. Louis, from 1942 to 1943; was a carpenter with John Weber Construction Company, Jefferson City, for ten years; and owned and operated the Edwin Dudenhoeffer Cabinet Shop for twenty-seven years until retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; American Legion Post No. 5; Roy Sone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1003; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2693. Mr. Dudenhoeffer will be remembered for his great talent of carpentry work. Other survivors include one brother, Jake Dudenhoeffer, Florissant, MO; two sisters, Catherine Heidbreder and Evelyn Knatcal, both of Jefferson City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Drive, Jefferson City, MO with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald W. Lammers officiating.

EDMONDSON
Ruth M. Edmondson, age 83, of Sunrise Beach, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at her home.
She was born May 10, 1920 in Independence, MO, the daughter of Lonnie T. and Mary Lenore Burdette Fleetwood. She was united in marriage in 1939 to Earl Edmondson, who preceded in death in 1984.
She is survived by 1 daughter: Donna Ketcham; 2 sisters: Marjorie Kensinger and Mary Hill; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 son and 2 brothers.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.
GUENTHER
Gene G. Guenther, PhD, JD, 78, died Monday, June 23, 2003, near his summer home in Seward, Alaska.
He was born September 5, 1924 in Versailles, Missouri the second child of Elmer W. and Mildred V. Lumley Guenther. He was a 1942 graduate of Versailles High School and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri before enlisting in the Navy in April of 1942; receiving his fleet appointment to Navy V-12 program and attending Georgia Tech for pre-engineering, the University of Miami for Deck officer training, and back to Georgia Tech for Naval Reserve Officer Training.
After serving his country during World War II in the United States Navy he returned to Georgia Tech and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. He attended the University of Missouri, Kansas City earning his Jurist Doctorate degree.
He had been employed with International Harvester in Evansville, Indiana as a plant equipment designer, worked for Remington Arms Inc. Lake City arsenal as project engineer, and later Ford Motor Company, Ford Aircraft Division as plant equipment designer and from 1953-1956 with Trans World Airline overhaul base as an engineer. He spent three years with Bendix Corporation as engineer of special projects, traveling extensively throughout the United States and numerous other countries. In March of 1960, inspired by the recent admission of Alaska to statehood, he packed his belongings and moved to the new 49th state. His first job was as owner's representative and field engineer for the erection of a five story modern New Providence Hospital in Anchorage. He then worked for the Alaskan Air Command as industrial engineer, and in 1966 was mechanical engineer for the Alaskan Communication Region, providing communication and early warning to the Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado command post. In 1972 he transferred back to the Air Command as Chief Mechanical Engineer, retiring in 1986.
He resided in Anchorage for many years before moving to Seward in 1987, where he resided for 6 months out of the year and the remaining 6 months he lived in Versailles, near his father. After his father's death in 1994, he made the Lake of the Ozarks his winter home.
He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Seward and a faithful member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles. He was a supporter of many church projects, colleges and other charitable organizations. He had been active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He remained active in the Naval Reserves for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant (J.G.) He loved boating and fishing.
Survivors include three sisters and two brothers-in-law, "Buddy" and "Buzz" Lujin and "Honey" and Jim Scrivner all of Versailles and "Snooks" Washburn of Springfield, Missouri; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Jan Guenther of Gravois Mills, Missouri; Col. (Ret.) E.W., Jr. "Gus" and Jackie Guenther of Sumter, South Carolina and Bob and Pat Guenther of Cincinnati, Ohio; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Charles Reed Guenther.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Interment, with military funeral honors by the Zack Wheat American Legion Post in Sunrise Beach and the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Team, will be in the Oak Park Addition of the Versailles Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles or the United Methodist Church in Seward, Alaska.
HARRIS
Georgia Ruth Harris, 77, of Jefferson City, MO, died July 1, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born July 25, 1925, at Cole County, MO, the daughter of John and Mary Elizabeth Cheatham Tussey. She was married February 17, 1945, at Jefferson City, MO to Joseph Lee Harris, who survives of the home.
She was a graduate of the Jefferson City High School. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Lee Harris, who died May 12, 2003, and one daughter, Mary Jo Harris, who died October 21, 1997. Other survivors beside her husband include three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Longview Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Heart of Missouri Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Buescher Memorial Home.
JOHNSON
Phyliss Virginia Johnson, 69, of Versailles, passed away Monday, June 30, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
She was born May 7, 1934 near Versailles, the daughter of Logan Oliver and Lou Emma Walls Sousley, Sr. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and member of the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles.
She is survived by five sons: Gene Calton of Eldon, Kenneth Wayne Calton, Earl Leonard Johnson and Roy Johnson, all of Versailles, and John Johnson of Richland; two daughters: Louise Hobbs of Richland, and Paulette Lawson of Versailles; five brothers: George Clayton Sousley of Willow Springs, Audrey Otto Sousley and Norman C. Sousley of Kansas City, Donald A Sousely of Belton, and Robert "Bob" Sousley of Versailles; one sister: Nellie Gilberta Pipes of Versailles; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Gary Petty officiating. Interment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, near Versailles.
MATTHEWS
Marjorie Helen Matthews, 86, of Vienna, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in Jefferson City.
She was born April 16, 1917, in Vienna. Survivors include one son: Delmar L. Matthews; one daughter: Helen Terry; one brother: Leroy Oppermann; two sisters: Margaret Oppermann, and her twin sister, Marie Honse; three grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Visitation will be on Tues., July 1, from 6-8 p.m. and Wed., July 2 from 1-2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Vienna. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wed., July 2 at First Baptist Church, Vienna with Rev. Cameron Moles officiating. Interment at the Vienna Public Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
