BEYERSDORFF

Arnold Herbert Beyersdorff, age 95, of Fulton, died Monday, July 7, 2003 at the Fulton Manor Care Center.

He was born Nov. 24, 1907 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Neubauer) Beyersdorff. In 1933, he married Eunice Davis in Fulton, Mo.

He is survived by one nephew, Terry Rehma of  Jefferson City and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Herbert.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Rev. Mike Crowson officiating. Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends on Wed. from 11 until time of service at the funeral home.

GOTTLIEB

Virginia Dunham Henwood Gottlieb, 88, of  Jefferson City, MO, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Capital Region Medical Center.

Mrs. Gottlieb was born August 11, 1914 in Hannibal, MO, the daughter of the late Judge Berryman and Adele Tucker Henwood, both deceased.

Her father, Berry Henwood served on the Supreme Court of Missouri from 1930 until 1933. She was married on May 14, 1960 at Marshfield, MO to Dr. Sinclair S. Gottlieb, M.D. who preceded her in death on August 19, 1997. She graduated from  Jefferson City High School in 1932 as Valedictorian. After attending the  Jefferson City Junior College and Washington University, she graduated from the University of Missouri in 1936 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and received her Master's in Education from the University in 1938.

She was a member of three honorary fraternities. Pi Lamba Theta, Sigma Phi, and Phi Sigma Iota. She served as President of the Kappa Alpha Theta Social Sorority, Secretary of the Homecoming Committee and was a member of Panhellenic Council. Mrs. Gottlieb taught French at the University of Missouri Laboratory School from 1937 to 1941. She served as Social Secretary to Mrs. Forrest Donnell at the executive mansion during Govorner Donnell's tenure in office, 1941-1945. She served as secretary to Judge Henry J. Westhues of the Missouri Supreme Court until his retirement, then served as Deputy Clerk of the Supreme Court for the Court En Banc until her retirement in 1976.

Mrs. Gottlieb was appointed to the Board of Regents of Central Missouri State College in 1961 by Governor John M. Dalton for a term of six years and served as secretary of the board for the entire term. She was reappointed to the Board of Regents in 1967 by Governor Warren Hearnes for a second term of six years and remained a member of the board until her successor was appointed and qualified in March 1974. She was the only woman charter member of the Missouri University Quarterback Club. She was a member and former President of the Cole County Alumni Association of the University of Missouri. She was a member of the P.E.O., Chapter FS, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a member of the Tuesday Club for over 50 years. She was an alumni member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Social Sorority since 1936. She was a member of the Auxillaries of both Memorial Community Hospital, currently Capital Region Medical Center, and St. Marys Health Center. In 1982, she was appointed to the planning committee for a Missouri Supreme Court Historical Society and was a member of that society for the past twenty years.

Survivors include two nephews: Roy Berryman Truesdale and Bruce Henwood Truesdale, both of  Jefferson City, MO.

Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mark Dumas officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the PEO Sisterhood, The First United Methodist Church, or the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Mortuary.

HORN

Paul Franklin Horn, age 79, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

He was born September 28, 1923, in  Jefferson City, Mo., the son of the late Lester W. and Amanda (Williams) Horn. In 1942, he married Alma Ruth Reed in  Jefferson City. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by one daughter, Anna Ruth Allen of Fulton; one son, Paul David Horn of Eldon, Mo.; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Rev. Larry Paris officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with military honors. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, July 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

THEROFF

Betty-jean Louise Theroff, 56, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Monday, July 7, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born on January 28, 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Clarence Watson Ferguson and Catherine Correa Ferguson. Her father survives in LaHabra, California. She was married in 1966 in Honolulu to O.P. Brilhante, III. She was married on November 11, 1989 in Reno, Nevada to Michael Allen Theroff, who survives at the home.

A homemaker and mother, she was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Other survivors include four sons, Oliver Perreira Brilhante, IV, Columbia; Jonathan Michael Brilhante, Martinez, California; Travis Ray Michael John Theroff, and Matthew Oliver Shoaf Theroff, all of Holts Summit; two daughters, Jeana Michelle Turner, Pleasant Hill, California and Cheryl Nicole Louise Theroff, Holts Summit; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Danny Ferguson, Kaneohe, Hawaii; and Ronald Ferguson, Moreno Valley, California.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. James M. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Elko City Cemetery, Elko, Nevada.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Drive,  Jefferson City, MO 65109 (573/893-5251), with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

WITTE

Martin L. Witte, 67, Stover, died July 6, 2003, at the Golden Age Living Center, Stover.

Survivors include his mother-in-law: Minnie Richardson, Florence; brother: Charles Witte, Elkland; and sister: Norine Kerksiek, Stover.

Friends may call from 12:30 until time of service on Thursday, July 10, 2003, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover.

Interment will be in St. John's UCC Cemetery, Florence. Memorials are suggested to the Martin Witte Memorial Fund.

BORG

Sarah M. Borg, a lifelong resident of Fayette, MO, died Monday, July 7, 2003 in Columbia, MO.

She was born July 23, 1922 in  Jefferson City, MO, the oldest daughter of the late Daniel C. and Emma D. Rogers. She was united in marriage to Roy C. Borg on June 25, 1944 at the Paul H. Linn Memorial Church, Fayette, MO.

She was a 1940 graduate of Fayette High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1944 from Central College. She was employed as a visiting art and music teacher for rural schools in Howard County in the 1950's. She also worked as an assistant to the Howard County Assessor. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, working not only with local troops, but serving the Heart of Missouri Council by taking girls on camping and canoeing adventures in Missouri and in Wyoming.

She is survived by her husband, Roy C. Borg, a retired dentist from Fayette, MO, who is currently residing in Columbia, MO; one daughter: Rebecca J. York,  Jefferson City; one sister: Martha R. Holman of Fayette; two grandsons: Robert C. York of  Jefferson City and Andrew C. York of  Jefferson City; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Martha A. Borg; three brothers: Dixon C. Rogers of Fayette, Daniel L. Rogers of Derwood, MD, and Clyde E. Rogers of Fayette.

The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Borg's home on Park Rd., in Fayette, MO.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Star Cornet Band in care of Bob Bray, P.O. Box 290, Fayette, MO 65248.

CANTOR

Donald "Papa Smurf" Cantor, 78, died Monday, July 7, 2003.

He was born February 26, 1925, to Earl& Georgia Cantor. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was survived by son: James Cantor, Woodston, Kansas; two daughters: Rita Strutton, Woodston, KS and Annette Strickland, Bloomington, NE; three brothers: Earl and Paul both of Grand Junction, CO and James of Casper, WY; two sisters: Sarah Crispin, Boulder, CO and Anna Mae Porter, Cheyenne, WY.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2003, at Long Funeral Home, Crocker. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, Woodston Cemetery, Woodston, KS.

HARRIS

Mary Lou Harris, 86, of Holts Summit, MO died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born on May 11, 1917 in St. Elizabeth, MO the daughter of Frank Gene Bax and Jeannie Druding Bax. She was a 1935 graduate of Notre Dame High School in St. Louis.

She retired in 2000 as manager of the Ninety-second Street Young Men's Hebrew Association in New York City where she had been employed for thirty-nine years. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Holts Summit.

There are no immediate survivors. Mrs. Harris' body was donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date by Msgr. Gerard L. Poelker. Memorials are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, P.O. Box 128, St. Elizabeth, MO 65075; or St. Andrews Catholic Church in care of the Rev. Brendan P. Doyle at 1206 E. McCarty Street,  Jefferson City, MO 65101. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. MCKEE

Leslie R. "Les" McKee, 83, California, MO passed away Monday, July 7, 2003 at his home in California, MO.

He was born November 8, 1919 in California, MO the son of Charles "Ed" and Sopha Rentsch McKee who preceded him in death. He was married May 21, 1944 to Frieda Albertin who passed away July 2, 1971. He was a farmer and a United States Air Force Retired Lt. Col. 1939-1961.

He was a member of California United Church of Christ; Sunday School teacher for many years; member of the Men's Brotherhood and very active in all church functions. Les served in the U.S. Air Force in the Himalayan (HUMP) operation during World War II as a B-29 Commander. During the Korean War, he and the B-50 Crew were featured in "LOOK" magazine article "The Atomic Bomb and the Crew that carries it."

He graduated from California High School in 1938; Warrensburg State Teachers College and Aircraft Mechanics School. He attended the Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned as an instructor with the Advanced Flying School. He was a "Command" pilot and received the 'Distinguished Flying Cross' medal the Air Medal and several commendations ribbons with clusters. In 1966, he received the "Outstanding Farm Management" award.

Survivors include 1 son, Robert "Bob" McKee with his wife Mary of Liberty, South Carolina; 2 daughters, Patti Lund with her husband, Ralph Q. of Arlington, VA and Leslie Markovchick with her husband, Vince of Golden, CO; 1 brother, Barney McKee of Walnut Creek, CA; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Marilyn Reith; 3 sisters, Edna Alloway, Cora and Nettie McKee; 2 brothers, Charles and James McKee and an infant brother.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2003, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO. Services will be held at California United Church of Christ, Friday, July 11, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Schulte and Rev. Collette Jones.

Burial will be in Evangelical Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the California United Church of Christ-new construction fund, 101 N. Oak Street, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO.

HOBACK

Hubert D. Hoback, 87, California, MO died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at the Moniteau Care Center in California, MO.

He was born October 31, 1915 in Moniteau County north of California, MO the son of Albert L. and Lillian M. Dearing Hoback who preceded him in death. He was married June 12, 1940 at Corticella to Dortha A. Fahrni who passed away May 5, 1959. He then was married August 12, 1966 in  Jefferson City, MO to Anna Belle Tipton who passed away April 19, 1972 and later was married June 28, 1973 in  Jefferson City, MO to Venita M. Surface who survives at the home.

He was a school bus driver for Jamestown, California, High Point; worked at MFA in California from 1961-1966 and retired from the Department of Corrections in 1980. He attended Eldorado Elementary School.

Other survivors include 3 sons, Jim Hoback with his wife, Irene of California, MO, Larry Hoback with his wife, Kandy of High Point, MO and Dennis Hoback with his wife, Vicki of California, MO; 1 step son, David Surface with his wife, Linda of Holts Summit, MO; 1 daughter, Marylin Durk with her husband, Gary of  Jefferson City, MO; 7 step daughters, Judi Hirschman of Centertown, MO, Debbie Vincent with her husband, Greg of the state of W VA, Jennifer Lammers of  Jefferson City, MO, Carolyn Nichols with her husband B. of Eldon, MO, Cheryl Viessman of Columbia, MO and Janet Farley of  Jefferson City, MO; 2 brothers, Harold Hoback with his wife, June of Port St. Lucie, FL and Paul Hoback with his wife, Nelda of Reeds Spring, MO; 33 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina Hoback; 2 daughters, Betty Rose Bickel and Phyllis Walters; 2 brothers, Vernon Hoback and Douglas Hoback and 5 sisters, Hazel Bowline, Corinne Swarner, Eula Sullins, Gertrude Hall and Juanita Gaulden.

Services will be held at High Point Baptist Church, Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 10:00 A. M. Officiating will be Rev. Ray McDonald. Burial will be in California Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, July 11, 2003, 5:00-8:00 P. M. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO. Memorials are suggested to High Point Baptist Church-Mission Fund, High Point, MO 65042 or the Charity of Donor's Choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO.
