GROVES

Robert S. Groves, 73, Eldon, MO, died July 20, 2003, at Osage Beach, MO.

He was born October 31, 1929 in Mexico, MO the son of Clifton Groves and Helen (Moore) Groves. He was married July 5, 1958 to Mary Joan (Leitner) Groves in Kansas City, MO. Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Groves, Shawnee, Kansas; three sons, Alan M. Groves, Eldon, MO, Stephen C. Groves, Jackson, MO, and John T. Groves, Barnett, MO; one sister, Carol Abernathy, McFarland, WI; one brother, Clarence N. Groves, Mexico, MO; three granddaughters, Jessica, Rachel and Melinda Groves; one grandson, Jacob Groves.

A veterinarian, Mr. Groves received a Doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Missouri in 1955 and practiced in Eldon, Missouri for nearly fifty years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon, MO.

Visitation will be at the Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon, MO Monday, July 21, 2003 5:00-8:00 p.m.. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. in Eldon, MO with the Rev. James J. O'Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett, MO.

MCDONALD

Irlene Knernschield McDonald, 73, of  Jefferson City, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born November 21, 1929, in Eugene, Missouri, a daughter of George and Lydia Hoark Knernschield. She was employed by Tweedie Shoe Factory, International Shoe Factory, and then by Still Regional Hospital since 1970 as a housekeeper.

Mrs. McDonald was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Dale Preston McDonald and wife Lisa of Fort Myers, Florida; one brother: Marvin Knernschield of  Jefferson City; one sister: Florence Eicholz of Freeman, Missouri; four grandchildren: Kristi Marrero, Joseph McDonald, Melissa McDonald, Mitchell McDonald and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Elroy Knernschield, Edward Knernschield, Everett Knernschield and two sisters: Martha Fry and Lela Mae Sauer.

Friends will be received from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors -  Jefferson City Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Directors -  Jefferson City Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Jerome Brownlee officiating.

Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors -  Jefferson City Chapel, 2613 West Main Street; 636-3838.

SANNING

Irene J. Sanning, age 83, of Eldon, MO, died Sunday, July 20, 2003.

She was born on June 1, 1920 in Mary's Home, MO, the daughter of Will Frank and Katie (Schulte) Frank. She was married to Gilbert W. "Dick" Sanning on September 12, 1939 in Mary's Home, MO.

She was a housewife. Survivors include: her spouse, Gilbert W. "Dick" Sanning of the home; 1 daughter, Barbara Huhmann of Independence, MO; 2 sons, James A. Sanning of Eldon, MO, and Richard W. Sanning, Eldon, MO; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Elfie Meyerpeter,  Jefferson City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters & 2 brothers.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, MO, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. James J. O'Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in the Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett, MO. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

VAUGHAN

John Robert Vaughan, 66, of Linn, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born September 13, 1936 in  Jefferson City, MO, son of the late Thomas C. and Edna Brandt Vaughan. He was married in Linn, MO to Marilyn McDaniel who survives at the home.

Mr. Vaughan was a member of St. George Church, Linn. He graduated high school from Bellerman School for Boys, LaHonda, California. He was an Army Veteran, serving his country from 1958 - 1970 and received good conduct and National Defense medals. He owned and operated a dental lab in Bellevue, Washington . He moved back to Linn in 1994. He was an avid reader and enjoyed baseball. John was loved and will be missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sone, John Eric Vaughan and one stepson, Phillip Sherburne of the state of Washington .

Visitation will be today, July 21, 2003, 5-8 p.m. at Morton Funeral Home, Linn with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at St. George Church with Rev. Father I.C. Medina officiating. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society.

ELROD

Arvil Elrod, 93, of Belle died Monday, July 21, 2003.

Arvil was born on April 1, 1910, to Thomas & Lucy Elrod. His wife Geneva Elrod survives at the home.

Survivors include two nieces, Mary Jane VonderBruegge of Webster Groves and Barbara Powell of Belle. Arvil is preceded in death by all of this brothers and sisters. They were Ira Elrod, Elsie Vondera, Doris Newcomb, Elva Elrod, and four who died in infancy. Also preceding Arvil is a niece Eleanor Ray.

Services for Arvil will be held on Thursday morning at 10:30 from the Liberty Church. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

Visitation for Arvil will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 in the Sassmann's Chapel in Belle.

ORSCHELN

Mr. Herbert H. Orscheln, age 67, of Linn, MO died Sunday, July 20, 2003 in Osage County.

Arrangements are incomplete, but will be under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

EWING

Christine D. Ewing, 22, of  Jefferson City, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at the University Hospital & Clinics in Columbia, Missouri.

Arrangements are pending with HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors -  Jefferson City Chapel, 2613 West Main Street; 636-3838.

CARROLL

William "Willie" H. Carroll, II, 47, Linn Creek, MO, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in the St. Louis University Hospital.

Survivors include: his wife, Sandy Carroll; two daughters, Jennifer Curtis and Hannah J. Carroll, Pleasant Hill, MO; one son, William H. Carroll, III, Pleasant Hill, MO; one stepdaughter, Nicole Scott, Linn Creek, MO; two stepsons, Rusty & William Scott, III, Linn Creek, MO; two sisters, Linda Schickendanz, Woodward, OK, Barbara Miller, Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Tom Carroll, Dallas Center, IA; Albert Carroll, Olathe, KS.

Visitation will be 6:00-7:30 p.m., Thursday at the Allee Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, MO.

Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home chapel.

GARRISON

Delia E. Garrison, 78, of  Jefferson City, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Oak View Skilled Care Center.

She was born August 31, 1924, in Spring Valley, Illinois, a daughter of Lamber and Lula Mae Williams Flier. She was married in 1943 in Lincoln, Illinois to William H. Sauter, who preceded her in death on December 17, 1967.

She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by one son, Edward Sauter of  Jefferson City; one brother, Edward Flier of Pekin, Illinois; three grandchildren: Hope Berhorst, Bill Sauter, and Wendy Skaggs; and five great grandchildren.

Private family services and interment will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main, 636-3838. HOUSER-MILLARD  Jefferson City Chapel.

JONES

Eula L. Jones, 85, California, MO passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center in  Jefferson City, MO.

She was born December 29, 1917 in Stokes Mound Township, MO the daughter of Lee Howard and Reba Lorene Smith Ward who preceded her in death.

She was employed with Employment Security as a clerk until her retirement on April 1, 1981. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, California, MO. She was a 50 year member of California Chapter #521 Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She was a 1935 graduate of Monroe City High School in Monroe City, MO.

Survivors include 1 son, Robert Jones with his wife, Elaine of Grandview, MO; 2 daughters, Patricia Stober with her husband, William Liddell of Plano, TX and Phyllis Sinski with her husband, John of California, MO; 1 sister, Helen Clark of Milan, IL; 8 grandchildren, Stephanie Sarsfield, Mark Sinski, Cindy Brown, Laura Harris, Lisa Juliano, David Jones, Michael Jones and Daniel Jones and 5 great grandchildren, Hannah Sarsfield, Austin Brown, Lindsey Sarsfield, Alec Brown and Evan Harris. She was preceded in death by 1 grandson, John Sinski and 1 brother, Roy Dale Ward.

Services will be held at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 10:00 A. M. Officiating will be Rev. Grey Morrow. Burial will be in California Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, 2003, 6:00-8:00 P.M. with an Eastern Star Service at 8:00 P.M.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 208 S. Oak Street, California, MO or California Nutrition Center, 107 W. Versailles Ave., California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO.

KUNZLER

Albert Clifford Kunzler, 85, of Eldon, passed away July 22, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born in Morgan County on October 7, 1917, a son of Roy and Anna (Croff) Kunzler. On November 7, 1942, in Tipton, he was married to Hattie Phillips, who survives.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn Pearson of Eldon; one nephew raised as his son, Clayton "Wesley" Bailey of Belton; three brothers, Vernon Kunzler and Wyman Kunzler both of Columbia and Donald Kunzler of  Jefferson City; one sister, Darlene Hartman of  Jefferson City; one grandson, Kendrick Bessette of Moscow Mills; and three great-grandchildren, Brent, Troy, and Nicole Bessette.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. A brother, Bert Kunzler, and a sister, Ruth Branstetter, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Perkin officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Big Rock Cemetery near Barnett.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson Foundation.

BANGERT

Colonel Athel Bangert, 87, Kansas City, MO and formerly of High Point passed away peacefully Monday, July 21, 2003 at Brighton Gardens in Kansas City.

He was born Sept. 29, 1915 in Zebra, MO (now known as Osage Beach, MO) the son of James Oscar and Verna Opal West Bangert, who preceded him in death. He was married June 2, 1940 in High Point, MO to Maxine Louise Tising, for over 60 years and she preceded him in death, June 12, 2001.

He was an Army officer, teacher and a farmer. Shortly after he graduated from the University of Missouri, he was called for active duty. He fought with the 42nd Rainbow Division in France, Germany and Austria during World War II and saw combat and commanded the troops during the police action in Korea. He trained troops for Vietnam at Fort Polk, LA, commanding the 5th Advanced Infantry Training Brigade. He retired from Ft. Leonard Wood as a Colonel in the US Army where he served from Aug. 9, 1940 until Jan. 21, 1972. During his term in the US Army, he was the commander of the National Guard Armory in Sedalia, MO, from 1956-1958 and was a professor of military services at SMSU in Springfield, Mo from 1968 until 1972.

He received numerous medals, decorations and combat citations during his 34 years of service including the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievements during military operations, the Legion of Merit Medal and four Oak Leaf Clusters with Bronze Stars. He retired to Springfield, MO where he lived for over 30 years and was a member of the University Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Jack Bangert with his wife, Jeanne of Leawood, KS; one daughter, Judy Mitchell with her husband, John of Lancaster, PA; three sisters, LaVena Prewitt of Waynesville, MO, Ilene Ford and Lorene Emmerson of Columbia, MO and 6 grandchildren, Daniel and Diane Mitchell, and Jillian, David, Paige and Michael Bangert. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Averill and Keith Bangert.

Graveside service and burial will be Friday, July 25, 2003, 11:00 A. M. at High Point Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation and a short celebration of Life were held on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at McGilley-State Line Chapel in Kansas City, MO. Local arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO.
