BRUNS

Millie Bruns, 91, California, MO passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at California Care Center in California, MO.

She was born April 19, 1912 in San Francisco, CA the daughter of Frederick F. and Melinda Irene Stanley Lawrence, who preceded her in death. She was married August 9, 1954 in Waterloo, IA to Darroll W. Bruns who passed away August 10, 1993.

She was owner & operator of Bruns Tavern in California, MO for many years. Survivors include 1 sister; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Richard and Curtis Potwin.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at a later date. At her request, she lovingly donated her body to science. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, MO.

BYRD

Otis Woodrow Byrd, Sr., age 83, of Fulton, died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Callaway Community Hospital in Fulton.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Goldie Elaine Lawson of Columbia, MO, Ella Williams of Kingdom City, MO and Ann Gross of McPherson, KS; 7 sons, Bill Byrd and Otis Byrd, Jr. both of Fulton, Kenneth Byrd, Richard Byrd, Jerry Byrd and Gary Byrd, all of McPerson, KS, Robert Byrd of Bowling Green, MO; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Monday evening, July 28, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

NEWELL

Mary E. Newell, age 76, Camdenton, MO, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in her home.

Survivors include: three daughters, Fern Elizabeth Webster, Camdenton, MO, Susie Patton, Camdenton, MO, Kathleen Lewis, Lebanon, MO; one son, J.C. Newell, Camdenton, MO; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Jo McGuire, Camdenton, MO, Betty Lou Rogers, Camdenton, MO; three brothers, Gilbert Walters, Camdenton, MO, Dave Walters, Camdenton, MO and Glen Walters of the state of California.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, MO.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday in the Decaturville Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Burns officiating.

OUSLEY

B. Henrietta Ousley, 65, of  Jefferson City, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the University Hospital & Clinics in Columbia, Missouri, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on April 29, 2003.

She was born May 18, 1938, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of William Albert and Gertrude Virginia Scruggs Coleman.

She attended  Jefferson City High School. She was married September 15, 1957, in  Jefferson City to David H. Ousley, who survives at the home. She was owner of D&H Painting and Roofing and was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and loved music, puzzles and bowling. She did volunteer work at the Shiloh Methodist Church in Holts Summit.

She is survived by five children: Debbie Sue Welschmeyer, Beverly Ann Williams, David H. Ousley Jr., Dennis J. Ousley all of  Jefferson City and Darla Renee Figolah of Holts Summit; four sisters: Joan Hassler, Becky Gibler, Karene Drinkard and Kim Owens all of  Jefferson City; five brothers: Robert Coleman of  Jefferson City; Ralph Coleman of Raymore, Missouri; Paul Coleman, Bill Coleman and Tim Coleman all of  Jefferson City; her step-mother: Barbara Coleman of  Jefferson City; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Rhonda Jean Coleman and Paulette Hope Coleman and one granddaughter: Sabbrina Cheyenne Ousley.

Friends will be received from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors -  Jefferson City Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jerome Brownlee officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the B. Henrietta Ousley Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors -  Jefferson City Chapel, 2613 West Main Street; 636-3838.

SHANKS

Opal Shanks, 95, of Vienna, died July 23, 2003, at Vienna.

She was born November 7, 1907, at Vienna, a daughter of Jesse and Flossie Terry Gillespie, who preceded her in death. She married January 15, 1931, at Vienna, to Herman Shanks, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: 3 sons, Leonard, Lloyd and Delbert Shanks; 1 daughter, Beulah Purdham; 1 brother, Jesse Gillispie; 3 sisters, Madge Backues, Maude Hutchison, and Lillian Cook; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, and 10-11 a.m., Saturday in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Funeral services 11 a.m., July 26, 2003 at the Funeral Home.

STOCKHORST

Veronica Elizabeth Stockhorst age 96, of Fulton, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Presbyterian Manor in Fulton.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Mildred Keeney of Fulton, MO, Marie Schmidt of Kingdom City, MO and Marjorie Morland of Linn, MO; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; and 1 sister, Theresa Ellis of Hermann, MO.

Family will receive friends Friday evening, July 25, from 5-8 p.m. at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with rosary said at 7 p.m.

Funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 26, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fulton with Father Greg Oligschlaeger officiating. Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Catholic Church.

THOMPSON

Jeanne I. Thompson, age 80, of Versailles, passed away Thursday morning, July 24, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center in  Jefferson City.

She is survived by two daughters, Kellie Livingston, Versailles, and Roxanne Windnagle, St. Petersburg, FL; 2 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Laurie. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

BLAKENSHIP

Jess V. Blakenship, 90, Camdenton, Missouri, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday morning at Lake Regional Health Systems, Osage Beach, Missouri.

Survivors include: two daughters: Kathy Watson of Midlothian, Virginia, and Patricia Bradley of Stoutland, Missouri; seven grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jess V. Blakenship will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003 in the Freedom Church of Christ with Bro. Charles Pitts officiating. Burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home.

Visitation was Saturday evening, July 26, 2003 from 6-8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christian Youth Home in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Homes.

KILMER

Menno B. Kilmer 62, of Versailles, passed away Friday, July 25, 2003 at his home.

He was born Jan. 6, 1941 in Lancaster County, PA, son of Martin and Mary Kilmer.

He is survived by his wife Ella of the home; eight sons, three daughters, 5 brothers, 5 sisters and 43 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Clearview Church near Versailles. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at their home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

MANTLE

Mr. Arnold R. Mantle, age 63 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, July 25, 2003 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Mantle was born July 30, 1939 at Albany, New York, the adopted son of Grace Pinet Mantle, deceased. He was married on August 25, 1963 to Karolyn M. Davenport. On August 24, 1983, he married Patricia Brandstetter. On February 3, 2003, he married Darlene M. Biehl who survives at the home.

Mr. Mantle graduated from Linn High School, Linn, Mo. and Lincoln University in 1963 with a B.S. in education. He also attended the Ozark Bible College at Joplin, Mo.

Mr. Mantle taught school in Linn, Mo. for several years. Later, he was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Economic Development with the Community Betterment Program. From 1971 until 1981, he was employed as a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was also employed as an investigator with the Missouri Dental Board. He was then employed as a case worker with the Missouri Dept. of Correction. He retired as a parole officer with the Division of Probation and Parole on January 1, 2002.

He was a charter member of the Capital City Christian Church of  Jefferson City, Mo., a charter member of the Crossroad Christian Church in Macon, Mo., and currently a member of the Zion Evangelical Church of Bland, Mo.

Other survivors include: two daughters: Judy L. Mantle and Jennifer M. Mantle of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters: Hallie Mantle and Myrtle Mantle, both of Linn, Mo.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the Capital City Christian Church with the Reverend John Tarbet and the Reverend Matt Crowe officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Linn, Mo.

Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Capital City Christian Church Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

VANHOOSER

Chum Leroy "Sam" VanHooser, 73, Northmoor, MO, formerly of Eldon, died July 25, 2003, in Northmoor, MO.

He was born March 14, 1930 in Eldon, MO, a son of Oscar VanHooser and Montie (Jobe) VanHooser.

He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed traveling and fishing.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Beverly) East, state of Missouri; one son, Greg VanHooser, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, David East, Terrie East, Amy VanHooser, & Greg VanHooser.; two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Opal) Wood, Sedalia, Missouri, and Mrs. Bob (Helen) McDonald, Sedalia, Missouri; one brother, Don VanHooser, Orrick, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James Tipton VanHooser, Orville VanHooser, & Doral VanHooser, and by three sisters, Amy McKinley, Edna Wrye, & Bonnie Campbell.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, July 28, 2003 at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, Missouri. Burial will be in Dooley Cemetery, Eldon, MO.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, July 27, 2003 at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, Missouri.

Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's Hospice or The American Cancer Society.
