BAUMGARTNER
Bennie E. Baumgartner, 71, of Chicago, IL died August 27, 2003 at his home.
He was born May 14, 1932 in Callaway County, MO to Benjamin H. & Pauline Coats Baumgartner. Mr. Baumgartner attended UMC and was enlisted in the Army for 2 years. He retired from Sherwin-Williams Paint Co. in Chicago after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: James R. Baumgartner, Holts Summit and Gail Sublett, Rocky Mount, 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
Visitation will be at Parker Funeral Service & Crematory on Wednesday, September 3 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Services will be Wednesday, September 3 at 2 p.m. at Parker Funeral Service & Crematory with the Rev. FRANKLIN
Francis LaRue Franklin, 79, of Hannibal, died at 12:14 p.m., Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.
Mr. Franklin was born, December 14, 1923, in Hannibal to William H. & Frances Keller Franklin. He married Ona Marie Turner April 28, 1942, in Hannibal and she preceded him in death, April 28, 1985.
Survivors include, two sons, Gary L. Franklin and wife, Lori, Jefferson City, Kenny Franklin and wife Royda, Hannibal, one daughter, Deborah M. Byers and husband, Jeff, Auburndale, Florida; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving is his step-mother, Suzie Franklin, Hannibal, and half-sister Jo Ann Neff and husband Franklin, also of Hannibal. Mr. Franklin formerly was production manager for International Shoe Company in Hannibal. He later worked at Electric Wheel in Quincy and retired from Buckhorn Rubber Products in Hannibal. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the South Pacific with the U.S. Marine Corp. He then spent 23 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as 1st Lt. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and had attended Tabernacle of Praise Church. Mr. Franklin had been active in Boy Scouts and was assistant Scout Master for Troop 105.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2003 at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel with Rev. Delmar Blase officiating. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park with military services by Emmette J. Shields Post 55, The American Legion. HARDCASTLE
Juanita Rose (Williams) Hardcastle, age 63, of Eldon, MO, died Saturday, August 30, 2003.
She was born May 27, 1940 in Jefferson City, MO, the daughter of William Lee Williams and Edna Viola (Branson) Williams. She is survived by one son, Lawrence Lee Penserum, Eldon, MO; one daughter, Glenda Dowdy, Eldon, MO; one sister, Carol Lepper, Eldon, MO; one brother, Larry D. Williams, Columbus, GA; five grandchildren, Ashley Penserum, Cash Dowdy, Mackenzie Dowdy, Dustun Penserum & Dyllan Penserum; nieces, Patty Allen & Cindy Hoock; great-nieces, Courtney Lynn Allen & Ambret Zoe Allen; great-nephews, Thomas Bryston Lewis Howser, John Connor & Rusty Tanner Hoock. She was preceded in death by one brother. She was employed with FASCO Industries for 28 years, retiring last July, 2002.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 3, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, MO. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Minister Tom Farrington officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Ninth Street Christian Church.
HILE
Mr. Ernest W. Hile, age 48 years, of Jefferson City, MO., died Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Capital Health Care Center.
Mr. Hile was born February 9, 1955 at Jefferson City, MO, the son of William F. and Mary E. Smith Hile, both deceased. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Mr. Hile attended Jefferson City Public Schools. He was employed as a laborer in the Construction Industry and with the A-1 Small Engine Company until ill health forced his retirement. Survivors include: three sisters, Joyce Davis, Linda Hile, and Tammy Rose, all of Jefferson City, MO; one brother, Dennis Hile of Jefferson City, MO.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2003 in the Chapel of St. Peters Church with the Reverend Donald Lammers officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to The Ernest Hile Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
JORDAN
Billye Jo Jordan, 74, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at her home.
She was born January 14, 1929, in Cedar City, Missouri, a daughter of Claud Allen and Elsie Dean Bugbee Hutinger. She was a graduate of Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Missouri and attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri. She was married December 16, 1951, in Cedar City, Missouri, to Henry Jordan, who preceded her in death on April 1, 1992. She worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue for several years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sons: Will Henry Jordan of Lafayette, Indiana; Richard Leon Jordan of Kearney, Missouri; three daughters: Karen Renee Schaffer of Jefferson City, Missouri; Elizabeth DeAnne Naughton of Smithville, Missouri and Sandra Claudia Kubitsky of San Diego, California; one brother: Hugh Allen Hutinger of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister: Nannie Elizabeth Walton of Jefferson City, Missouri and seven grandchildren: Derrick Joseph Schaffer, Kristin Renee Schaffer, Jessica DeAnne Naughton, Jennifer Elizabeth Naughton, Paul Roach Henry Jordan, Sarah Beth Jordan and Kristina Marie Jordan. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Larry Taylor Hutinger.
Friends will be received from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors - Jefferson City Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2003, at the HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors - Jefferson City Chapel, with Rev. Mark Dumas officiating. MCGORDER
John Elmer McGorder, age 91, died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Tipton Oaks Manor.
He was born on September 11, 1911, at Eldon, MO, the son of Charlie & Annie Manley McGorder. He was married to Myrtle Williams in Tuscumbia, MO, on October 6, 1932. Mrs. McGorder died on December 16, 1977. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tipton, and served as a deacon. He lived in Kansas City in the 1940's and worked for North American Aviation. He moved to Tipton in 1956 where he worked as a maintenance supervisor for Weber Shoe Co. He is survived by one sisters-in-law, Nita Williams & several nieces & nephews. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., September 2, 2003, at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Rev. Paul Posey officiating. Burial will be in Big Rock Cemetery, Barnett, MO.
PHELPS
Lillian Frances Phelps, age 84, of Fulton, died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
She was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Frankford, MO, the daughter of the late John Lee and Lorena (Robinson) Ardrey. On April 13, 1944, in Hannibal, MO, she married Velpoe William "Bud" Phelps. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1997. She is survived by three sons, Victor Lee Phelps, Frank Lewis Phelps, and William Terry Phelps.
Funeral servcies will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with the Rev. Mike Crowson officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Fairview Cemetery at Frankford, MO. Family will recieve friends on Wed. evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
PROCTER
Betty June Procter, 73 of Jefferson City, left us on August 30, 2003 at Capital Region Medical Center.
The daughter of Carl & Edna (Odel) Renshaw, she was born on December 29, 1929. On September 28, 1950, she was married to Harry David Procter, who preceded her in death on September 28, 1994. Betty lived in the California area for 15 years. There she owned & operated beauty salons in Garden Grove & Orange County.
She was a longstanding member of the Order of Eastern Star and founder of Chapter 637 in Simi Valley, California. She lived in the Mid-Missouri area for the past 25 years where she sold real estate for Century 21 & Kinstler Agencies. Betty owned & operated beauty salons in the Eugene area as well as Arrowhead Salon at Lake of the Ozarks. Along with her husband, Harry, they owned & operated Cargill Turkey barns for many years out of Eugene, Missouri.
Betty is survived by: one sister, Cecil Fite of Murphysboro, Illinois; a daughter, Sandra Jo Procter of Jefferson City; a son, Carl "Bud" Procter and wife, Kay of Russellville; daughter, Lori Kay Jordan and husband, David of Lake Ozark; 2 stepchildren, David Procter and wife, Judy of Camdenton and Nancy (Procter) Morris and husband, Elliott of New London; ten grandchildren, Troy Gardner of Jefferson City, Lisa McGinnis of St. Martins, Megan Procter of Jefferson City, Ryan Procter of Russellville, Mason Procter of Russellville, David Procter of Henley, Carmen Garner of Beumont, Texas , Carla Engelbreht of Henley, Christie Stratton of Hannibal and Todd McLaughlin of Hannibal; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Treece.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Olean Cemetery, Olean, Missouri, with the Rev. Ken Lumley officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to Memorial Baptist Church Youth Ministries. Arrangements under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, Missouri.
SWEANEY
Nellie Mae Sweaney, age 96, formerly of New Bloomfield, died Wed., Aug. 27, 2003, in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
She was born May 28, 1907, in New Bloomfield, to the late Church & Katie (Wilson) Clatterbuck. She married Guy Sweaney, who preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister: Mary Payton Kidd; two nieces, one nephew, two great-nephews & three first cousins. She was preceded in death by one sister & one brother.
Family will receive friends from noon until time of service at the Church on Friday. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2003, at the Dry Fork Baptist Church in New Bloomfield, with Rev. Jerry Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Dry Fork Cemetery.
SLAUGHTER-BISHOP
Virginia E. Slaughter-Bishop, 89, of Jefferson City, MO, died Monday, September 1, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center, Jefferson City.
She was born August 18, 1914, in California, MO, a daughter of Abijah L. and Leona V. Hackney Cook. She was married to Kermit Slaughter, who preceded her in death on February 28, 1978. She was married to Lionel Bishop on September 13, 1980, he preceded her in death in 1983. She attended California School. She worked as a medical secretary for Marshall Kelly, M.D. Also for Memorial Hospital and worked for Home Health Care in Jefferson City, MO. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples), Jefferson City, MO.
She is survived by one daughter: Colleen D. Sturm and her husband John, Jefferson City, MO; four grandchildren: Kim Pannell, Lori Odneal and Matthew Sturm, all of Jefferson City, MO; and Kayla Bubert, Peoria, IL; six great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, Russellville, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2003, at Weber and Sons Chapel, Russellville, with Rev. Lawrence Veatch officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Eugene, MO. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
HODEL
Erma E. Hodel, 86, of Eldon, MO, died Thursday, September 4, 2003, in Jefferson City, MO.
She was born November 6, 1916, in California, MO, to Bryse and Cora (Irey) Hill. She was married November 4, 1939, in California, MO, to James Hanford Hodel, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1976.
She was a homemaker. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Survivors include one sister: Maurine Topliff, Eldon, MO; two nieces & their spouses: Barbara & James Henley, Eldon, MO, and Susan & Tony Spicuzza, St. Louis, MO; six nephews & their spouses; John & Cindy Hill, California, MO, Rex & Sara Hill, California, MO, Kent & Sharon Topliff, Jefferson City, MO, David & Candi Topliff, Wichita, Kansas, Jeff & Laura Lehman, St. Louis, MO, Mark Lehman, Columbia, MO; four great nieces: Susan Freeman, Sara Henley, Amy Hill, Sydney Topliff; four great nephews: Russell Hill, Kevin Hill, Derek Hill, Alex Topliff; two great great nephews: Cole Freeman, Dustin Hill; one great great niece: Miranda Hill. She was preceded in death by one sister: Lorene Hill Renfrow, two brothers: Clay Hill and Paul Hill.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., September 6, 2003, at the Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, MO.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 7, 2003., at the First Baptist Church, Eldon, MO, with the Rev. Randall Bunch officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon City Cemetery, Eldon, MO.

KISSINGER
Mrs. Ruby Kissinger, 80, died September 5, 2003, Lebanon Christian Care South, Lebanon.
She was born July 19, 1923, in Crocker, a daughter of David and Nora Bennett Petterson. She was married October 11, 1945, to Berlin Charles Kissinger, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1997.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: David and Sharon Kissinger, Poplar Bluff, and Charles and Janice Kissinger, Union; one daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and Terry Henson, Richland; two sisters: Ella Hardesty, Crocker and Nora Roberts, St. Peters; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2003 and Sunday, September 7, in the Long Funeral Home, Crocker.
Funeral services will be at 2:00, Sunday, September 7, 2003, at the Long Funeral Home, Crocker, with the Minister Merwyn McMillan officating. Interment will be in the Crocker Cemetery.
FURSTENAU
Dorsey J. Furstenau, age 74, of Eldon, MO, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, in Eldon, MO.

NIMMO
George Caleb Nimmo, son of Matthew and Holly (Stanton) Nimmo was stillborn at Lake Regional Hospital on September 18, 2003.
His parents survive in Lake Ozark. Other survivors include: 1 sister, Natalie Nimmo of the home; 1 brother, Marshal Nimmo of the home; paternal grandparents, Roger & Carol Nimmo of Kahoka; and maternal grandparents, George & Linda Stanton of Lake Ozark.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at Freedom Cemetery near Linn Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.
