GUMPENBERGER
Dawn Sherease Gumpenberger, 23, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the University Hospital & Clinics in Columbia, Missouri.
She was born June 25, 1980, in Jefferson City, a daughter of the late Randy Gumpenberger of Union, Missouri and Denise (Rolwes) and Dave Pack of Jefferson City. She attended Jefferson City High School and Kemper Military School.
Dawn loved being in the outdoors, fishing, hunting and playing softball. She also loved to write poetry. She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral.
She is also survived by a daughter, Kendra Varner of Jefferson City; maternal grandparents, Henry and Gloria Rolwes of Belle, Mo. ; paternal grandparents, Carl and Lyndell Gumpenberger of Leslie, Mo. ; two sisters, Julie Hammond and her husband, Jason, of Brazito, Mo., Jessica Pack of Jefferson City; one brother, Steven Pack of the home; two nieces, Chelsea Hammond and Megan Hammond, both of Brazito, Mo. ; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was also preceded in death by a grandmother: Ruth L. Pack.
Friends will be received from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the St. Joseph Cathedral, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at the St. Joseph Cathedral, with Fr. Frederick J. Elskamp officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

PEARRE
Wilma Jean Pearre, 72, of New Bloomfield, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
She was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Holts Summit, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Gant) Baysinger. On Nov. 11, 1950, she married William J. Pearre in Sullivan, Mo. He survives of the home.
She is also survived by one son, Bruce Pearre and his wife Joy of New Bloomfield; two grandsons, Kevin Pearre and Justin Pearre, both of New Bloomfield; one sister, Karen Frasher of New Bloomfield; three brothers, Dale Baysinger of the state of Louisiana, Jerry Baysinger, of Mary's Home, Mo., and Bill Baysinger of New Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
She graduated Salutatorian from New Bloomfield High School in 1950. She worked as a file clerk at Employment Security and retired in 1988. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. She enjoyed collecting dolls, camping, and garage sales.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Jefferson City with Rev. Shane Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Bull Cemetery in Holts Summit.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit.
Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Baptist Church in Jefferson City.
PORTING
Carl Michael Porting, age 59 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died June 7, 2004, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born September 11, 1944, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Michael Carl and Josephine Coleman Porting. He was married September 7, 1990, at Fulton, Mo., to Joan Taylor, who survives of the home.
He was a graduate of Fatima High School, and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He had been employed at Milo H. Walz, Delong's Inc., Jefferson City Transit Authority and the Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Survivors inlcude his wife, Joan of the home, one son, Brian Porting of the home, two step-sons, Jeff Seibert and his wife, Michelle, of Jefferson City, and Chris Seibert and wife Melissa of Eldon, Mo., three grandchildren and one sister, Betty Jo Doerhoff of Jefferson City, Mo. One grandchild preceded him in death. Services will be held at graveside at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Lewis Curtis officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Carl M. Porting Memorial Fund for his son, Brian Michael Porting. Arrangements are under the direction of the Buescher Memorial Home.
PROBST
Mrs. Bertha "Betty" Probst, age 96 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Oak View Skilled Care Center.
Mrs. Probst was born June 11, 1908, at Meta, Mo., the daughter of Theodore and Gertrude Hollenbeck Gerling, both deceased. She was married on September 4, 1929, at California, Mo., to Otto J. Probst, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1980.
A life-long resident of the Jefferson City area, Mrs. Probst attended school in Meta, Mo. A homemaker, she was member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Honey Creek, Mo., a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aide, and a member of The Welcome Hand Club.
Survivors include two daughters: Betty Young of Lake Ozark, Mo., and Marilyn Hale and her husband, Glen of Jefferson City, Mo. ; one brother: Adolph Gerling and his wife Florence of Jefferson City, Mo. ; six grandchildren: Robert L. Linhardt of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lynne Armstrong and her husband Lane of Lake Ozark, Mo., Deborah Couch and her husband David of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Pamela Katz of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lisa Chattin and her husband Jeff of Columbia, Mo., Patrick Hale of Jefferson City, Mo. ; two sister-in-laws: Pauline Gerling and Bertha Gerling, both of Jefferson City, Mo. ; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Scott Musselman officiating. Interment will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Honey Creek, Mo.
Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

BROWNING
Mrs. Virginia Lee Ward Browning, age 78 years, a former Jefferson City resident, passed away peacefully June 4, 2004, at her home in Napa, California, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 17, 1926 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Bowen and Virginia Ward, both deceased. She was married in 1947 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Jim Browning who preceded her in death in March, 2004.
She was a devoted homemaker and had worked for the Social Services Dept. for Somona County, California for 10 years and was a lifelong member of the Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include: three sons, Jim Browning and his wife Susan of Evergreen, Colorado, Scott Browning of Napa, California and Larry Browning of Napa, California; one daughter, Gail Brown of Santa Rosa, California; one brother, William "Bill" Ward and his wife Evelyn of Jefferson City, Mo. ; and 10 grandchildren.
A private memorial service was conducted on June 11, 2004.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Local arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
WATTS
Eva Watts, age 85, Versailles, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James Michael and Delene Watts and two grand daughters, Jennifer and Carolyn Watts all of Independence; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Lois Campbell and Jim and Louise Campbell all of Versailles; and one sister and brother-in-law, Annie and J. T. Hull of Versailles.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday June 12, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial will be in the Versailles Cemetery.
APPERSON
Mavis Apperson, age 65, of New Bloomfield, Mo., died Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Columbia, Mo.
Survivors include: one daughter, Deborah Leps, New Bloomfield; one son, Daniel Apperson, Saginaw, Michigan; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one niece.
Visitation will be held at the Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, Mo., from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the Phillips Funeral Home with burial in the Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Walter Johnson Palliative Care Foundation, 1600 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO 65201.
GEE
Donald M. Gee, age 82 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Capital Region Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete under the direction of the Buescher Memorial Home.
LEHMAN
Charles L. Lehmann, 74, of Westphalia, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital in Columbia after a short bout with cancer.
He was born February 27, 1930, in Jefferson City, a son of Otto H. and Rose Distler Lehman. He was married to Mary Ann Winkelmann on September 8, 1956, and later married Ruth Kempker Holterman on February 25, 2004, who survives at the home.
He served in the United States Army in Korea in 1952, where he was wounded in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17; Veterans of Foreign Wars Roy Sone Post 1003; American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5; Knights of Columbus; Elks Lodge #513; the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693; and the National Order of the Trench Rats.
His favorite things were playing bingo, which he and his wife did on a regular basis. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, and baseball, and was once scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals before being drafted into the military.
He is also survived by one son, Joe S. Lehman and wife, Bonnie of Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Deidre L. Lehman of Jefferson City; one grandson, Stephen A. Lehman of Jefferson City; one sister, Marjorie Schulte of Jefferson City; five brothers, Bernard Lehman and wife, Gladys, Francis Lehman and wife, Sandra, Sylvester Lehman and wife, Janice, Lawrence Lehman and wife, Louise all of Jefferson City, Otto A. Lehman of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Lehman.
Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Westphalia, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the St. Martins Catholic Cemetery in St. Martins.

MANTLE
Brenda Marie Mantle, 46, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born February 14, 1958, in Springfield, Mass., a daughter of Donald and Arlene Weislocher Mantle. Her father preceded her in death.
She attended Jefferson City Schools. Also, she attended the First Assembly of God Church in Jefferson City. She had been employed by Dairy Queen in Jefferson City for several years. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and loved music.
Survivors include: her mother, Arlene Mantle of Holts Summit; two sisters, Cheryl Fletcher of New Bloomfield and Bonnie Hubble of Holts Summit; two brothers, Donald Mantle Jr. of Jefferson City and Darrell Mantle of Jefferson City. Also, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.

STOKES
Doyle Stokes, 87, of Crocker, died June 13, 2004, in the Sunset Village Care Center, St. Robert.
He was born February 14, 1916, in Hancock, a son of Thomas and Maude Slavens Stokes. He was married September 17, 1944, at Crocker, to Velma Alice Whittle, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include: three sons, Jerry Stokes, Springfield, Donald Stokes, and Thomas Stokes, both of Crocker; two daughters, Jeannie Stokes, Seattle, Wash. and Nadine Breunig, Reeseville, Wis. ; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, in the Long Funeral Home, Crocker. Interment will be in the Crocker Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 - 10 a.m. Thursday, in the Long Funeral Home, Crocker.
TOLSON
Millard Lozelle Tolson Sr., age 63, of Macon, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, in Macon, Mo.
He was born February 19, 1941, to Kimball and Helen Grant Tolson. He was married to Gloria Magruder on December 2, 1960.
He is survived by his wife Gloria; five sons: Millard Tolson Jr., Steve Tolson, Keith Tolson, David Tolson, Curtis Tolson; four daughters: Carla Tolson, Sherry Tolson, Dena Driver, Vicki Lewis; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Pastor Dion Randolph officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Macon.
Visitation will be from 12:00 until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
