SCHMITZ
Etta I. Schmitz, 67, Jefferson City, died Aug. 16, 1999, at her home.
She was born
April 2, 1932, in Eugene, a daughter of Paul L. and Nora L. Porter Pitts. She was married
Aug. 23, 1974, in Jefferson City, to Thomas Schmitz, who survives at the home.
She attended Bates Grade School. She owned and operated Richmond Hill Restaurant. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
Other survivors include: three sons, Mitchell P. Limbach and Greg K. Limbach, both of Jefferson City, and Jim C. Limbach, St. Louis; four daughters, Nora L. "Lynn" Carter and Tambra I. Dobbs, both of Independence, Theresa A. Norman, Jefferson City, and Lisa Y. Santillan, Richmond; one brother, James Pitts, Kansas City; two sisters, Letta Vaught, Jefferson City, and Martha Ricker, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald W. Lammers will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
ADAMS
Pearl Ellen "Pearlie" Adams, 76, Mexico, formerly of Fulton, died Aug. 16, 1999, at Audrain Medical Center.
She was born
May 19, 1923, in Larned, Kan., a daughter of David W. and Evelyn Tanner Martin. She was married
Dec. 22, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa, to Forrest Marvin Adams, who died Sept. 9, 1983.
She graduated from Zook High School in Larned in 1941. She then attended Grace Hospital School of Nursing, Hutchison, Kan., receiving an RN license in 1944. She received an RN license in Missouri in 1950.
She served in the Army Nursing Corps in Des Moines, Iowa, during World War II. She worked at Callaway County Hospital and at Fulton State Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Fulton, VFW Post 57 and VFW Auxiliary Post 2657.
Survivors include: six daughters, Margaret Garriott, Sharon Salmons, Rose Hoover, Jeanie Garriott, JoAnn Raps and Nomi Litel, all of Callaway County; one sister, Marjorie Cline, Larned; one brother, Harry Bernard, Bella Vista, Ark.; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Mike Crowson will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
SCOTT
William R. "Bill" Scott, 79, Linn, died Aug. 17, 1999, at Green Meadows Health Care Center, Linn.
He was born
Dec. 31, 1919, in Virden, Ill., a son of Frank and Nola Alexander Scott. He was married
July 1, 1942, in Hattiesburg, Miss., to Lillian E. "Tink" Hicks, who survives at the home.
A 1940 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Whiting, Ind., he served in the Army for 25 years, including World War II and the Korean War. He then was employed at Caterpillar, Inc., Mapleton, Ill., from 1965 until his retirement in 1980.
He had lived in Kingston Mines, Ill., and was a member of the Kingston Mines United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include: one son, William Scott Jr., Mapleton; two daughters, Sharon Soltvedt and Scotti Lemmel, both of Linn; one brother, Frank V. Scott, Martinsburg, W. Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Kingston Mines Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Reed will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the building fund at Community Christian Church, Linn, or to the Kingston Mines Cemetery Fund.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn.
SCHUSTER
Alden Leo Schuster, 69, New Bloomfield, died Aug. 16, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born
Nov. 5, 1929, in California, a son of Burke R. and Lelia Gertrude Chambers Schuster. He was married
Feb. 2, 1951, in Jefferson City, to Patsy Ann McKim, who survives at the home.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a salesman for the N.O. Nelson Company in Jefferson City for 26 years. He worked in maintenance for the Missouri Highway Patrol for 16 years. He was a member of New Bloomfield Christian Church, and served on the New Bloomfield School Board for 11 years.
Other survivors include: two sons, Bruce Schuster, New Bloomfield, and Vincent Schuster, Holts Summit; one brother, Burke Schuster, Bowling Green; two sisters, Wanda Hallford, California, and Billie Wells, Latham; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit. The Rev. Roger Obermeier will officiate. Burial will be in Summit Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to New Bloomfield Christian Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
LETT
Opal Lett, 86, Jefferson City, died Aug. 17, 1999, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
Arrangements are incomplete at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
SMITH
Lester Monroe Smith, 84, Jefferson City, died Aug. 18, 1999, at his home.
He was born
Oct. 30, 1914, in Elmer, a son of Albert F. and Dora Salyer Smith. He was married
Sept. 11, 1965, to Evelyn Ragain, who survives at the home.
A graduate of Macon High School, he worked for the Missouri Highway Department, then was employed by Strong Equipment Co. as sales manager from 1949 to 1965. He also owned and operated service stations in Macon, where he was a Rotary Club member. After moving to Jefferson City in 1965, he was secretary of Cole County Abstract Co. until his retirement.
He was a member of the Missouri Land Title Association and the American Title Association, for which he was a past vice president and a current two-term member of the board of directors. He was a past member of the Missouri Building Industries Association, the Jefferson Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
He was a member of First Christian Church and had been superintendent of the Sunday school division of Macon Christian Church.
He received the first Happywood Snipes Award in 1987 from the Jefferson City Evening Lions Club for contributions to the Missouri Lions Eye Tissue Bank. He also received an outstanding service award from the Jefferson City Board of Realtors in 1978.
He was a 50-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Missouri and of the Ararat Temple of the Ancient Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Kansas City.
Other survivors include: one son, Donald L. Smith, Jefferson City; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Carolyn Murr, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Mindy J. Kiepe will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Lions Eye Bank, the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the American Cancer Society.
SMITH
Louella Irene Smith, 68, Jefferson City, died Aug. 17, 1999, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
She was born
March 14, 1931, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Guy and Virgie Smith Bailey. She was married
April 2, 1949, in Reno, Nev., to Richard E. Smith, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, she attended Jefferson City High School. She babysat many area children.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Debbie Anderson, Joplin, Linda Toops, Lawrenceville, Ga., Lou Ann Idel, Columbia, and Jeana Arbuckle, O'Fallon; seven sisters, Nova Woodall, Nadine Holliday and Jean Logsdon, all of Jefferson City, Barbara Robinson, Mifflinton, Pa., Phyllis Emerson, Oklahoma City, Deloris Bloom, Millersburg, and Carolyn Strobel, Holts Summit; two brothers, James Bailey, Jefferson City, and William Bailey, Yorktown, Va.; and 12 grandchildren.
One granddaughter preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Jim Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
ROBERTSON
Clyde Robertson, 89, Versailles, died Aug. 17, 1999, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
He was born
March 23, 1910, in McRea, Ark., a son of Charley J. and Pearl James Robertson. He was married
Aug. 2, 1936, in Russellville, to Donia Faye Young, who survives in Brazito.
He farmed and raised Angus cattle. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Eldon, and the American Aberdeen Angus Association. A former Russellville resident, he moved to Versailles about 10 years ago.
Other survivors include: one son, Joe Robertson Jr., Versailles; three daughters, Faye Ann Adler, Wichita, Kan., Sue Smith, Jefferson City, and Carol Wharton, Sallisaw, Okla.; six brothers, Paul Robertson, Portland, Ore., Charles Robertson, Lomita, Calif., Ralph Robertson, Los Angeles, Lee Roy Robertson, California, Jasper Robertson, St. Louis, and Dorsey Robertson, Russellville; four sisters, Ruby Jones and Hazel Pearl Harper, both of Pacific Groves, Calif., Mary Katheryn Clippard, Imperial, and Nancy Rose Fox, Medford, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, and two step great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Russellville. Louis Garbi will officiate. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Care Center.
COPELAND
William L. Copeland, 63, Jefferson City, died Aug. 18, 1999, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born
March 18, 1936, in Springfield, a son of J. "Dainey" and Effie Stowe Copeland. He was married
May 14, 1982, in Jefferson City, to Mary Wolf, who survives at the home.
He served in the Army from 1955 until his retirement in 1976 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He worked at the Missouri Department of Health Laboratory from 1976 until 1998, retiring as chief of the central services unit.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Jami Copeland, of the home; and one brother, Jim Copeland, Minneapolis.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. John Hobratschk will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.
