Mr. Matthew G. Carlton, age 28 years, of Lohman, Mo., died Thursday, January 28, 2011 in Detroit, Michigan.
Matt was born December 20, 1982 in Belleville, Illinois the son of Claud E. and Mary Philbert Carlton. He was married on September 13, 2008 in Middletown, Mo. to Allana Dooling. A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Matt attended  Jefferson City Public Schools. He was employed with CEC Transport as an over the road truck driver.
Matt enjoyed painting cars, riding an ATV, target shooting, and listening to music. Survivors include: his wife Allana Carlton; two sons, Matthew Kane Carlton and Seth Kaynon Miller; one daughter, Pierce Avril Miller; his mother and step-father, Mary and Robert Branham of Middletown, Mo. ; his father, Claud E. Carlton of  Jefferson City, Mo., four brothers, Robert Thompson and his wife Shannon of  Jefferson City, Mo., Dennis Carlton of Gainesville, Georgia, Ken Carlton and his wife Tina of Joplin, Mo., and Tony Carlton-Gearhart and his wife Gina of Martin, Kentucky; four sisters, Terri Hentges and her husband Tony of Russellville, Mo., Cathy Stegall and her husband Dennis of Jackson, Mo., Cyndi Roach and her husband Jim of Jackson, Mo., and Sheila Carlton of Jackson, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Claud Carlton, his grandmother, Ressie Westerman, his grandfather, Elroy Philbert, and his grandmother, Katie Uptegrove.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Mark White officiating. Interment will be at the Branham Cemetery near Middletown, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Carlton Children Educational Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mr. Leslie G. Green, age 70 years, of Wardsville, Mo. passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his home.
Les was born on July 14, 1940 in Belle, Mo. a son of Alva and Minnie Lehnoff Green. He was married on September 26, 1964 in Bland, Mo. to Linda K. Biehl, who preceded him in death on March 13, 2009.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Les was a 1958 graduate of Belle High School in Belle, Mo. After high school he served in the United States Army from 1958 through 1961 and was stationed throughout the United States during those years.
Les was employed as a bindery operator with Von Hoffman Press, Inc. for thirty-five years until his retirement in 2004.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo. and the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Les’ main passion was music, especially playing his steel guitar in several local bands. He also enjoyed being outdoors, camping and fishing, and was a Ham radio operator under the call sign WB0WIW. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and helping raise his daughter, Montana.
Survivors include: one son, Kevin Green of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one daughter, Montana Green of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; and two sisters, Ruth McKinney and her husband Floyd and Ruby Seymore, both of Belle, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; his daughter, Jodie Green on October 22, 1995; and two brothers, Johnny Green and Uel Green.
Visitation will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10:00 until 11:00 am Monday, February 7, 2011.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo. with Reverend Jeffrey Schanbacher officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Honey Creek, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Montana Green Educational Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Jones, age 96 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the  Jefferson City Manor Care Center.
She was born on September 12, 1914 in Goodwater, Mo. a daughter of James and Elvira Anderson Crocker. She was married on April 12, 1932 in Goodwater, Mo. to Wilber N. Jones who preceded her in death in 1978.
Elizabeth has been a resident of  Jefferson City since 1947 and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was a devoted homemaker who loved flowers and grew the most beautiful flowers around her home. Survivors include: two sons, Leo Jones and his wife Maizie of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Walter Jones and his wife Alice of Indio, Ca. ; one daughter Wilma Mueller of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one sister, Isabel Fenton of Stratford, Mo. ; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Myrtle Dillon; one granddaughter, Diana Hale; one great-grandson, Ricky Hunger; three sisters and six brothers.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with Brent Newton officiating. Interment will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Donald C. Butzer, age 77 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Villa Marie Nursing Center.
Don was born October 4, 1933 in  Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Guido G. and Elizabeth Angenendt Butzer. He was married on December 17, 1955 in Memphis, Tennessee to H. Aleen “Rusty” Rust who preceded him in death on December 7, 1994.
A life long resident of the  Jefferson City area, Don graduated from  Jefferson City High School and Lincoln University with a degree in accounting.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Don was employed with the Missouri Hospital Assn. and later retired from the State of Missouri Office of Administration in 1990.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Don enjoyed traveling, fishing, sailing, and studying history.
Survivors include: three sons, Doug J. Butzer and his wife Carol of New Bloomfield, Mo., David M. Butzer and his wife Cynthia of Henley, Mo., and Daniel T. Butzer of Holts Summit, Mo. ; one daughter, Dana M. Mobley and her husband Randy of Holts Summit, Mo. ; one brother, Harold G. Butzer and his wife Kit of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Irene Butzer Ulstad and Lucille Butzer, and one great-granddaughter, Brianna Marie Mobley.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Monday, February 7, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with Monsignor Gregory Higley officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.

Mrs. Norma Grace Dougherty, age 94 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
Grace was born July 25, 1916 in Mokane, Mo. the daughter of Hiram E. and Ella Nora Pearl Cheney Gregory. She was married on June 1, 1951 in Boonville, Mo. to Marvin William Dougherty, who preceded her in death on October 15, 1971.
A longtime resident of the central Missouri area, Grace graduated from Hermann High School, Hermann, Mo.
Grace was employed as the Executive Housekeeper with the Holiday Inn in  Jefferson City from 1968 until her retirement in 1983.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in  Jefferson City and was a volunteer at Charles E. Still Hospital for many years after her retirement. Grace enjoyed traveling, Cardinal baseball, attending her grandchildren’s activities, sewing, crossword puzzles, but most importantly, spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include: two daughters, Tirzah Jo “Terry” Stephenson and her husband Joel of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Marquita Jean Rowden of Iberia, Mo. ; four grandchildren, Daniel Rowden, Gregory Rowden, Valerie Stephenson Pryor and her husband Brad, and Megan Stephenson; and three great grandchildren, Loghan Rowden, Landyn Rowden, and Addisyn Rowden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; one son, William Blake Dougherty on March 16, 1952; three sisters, Naomi Wiggins, Neva June Turley, and Nadine Simmons; one brother, James Edward Gregory; and one son-in-law, Danny L. Rowden.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Lewis Curtis officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at the Fayette City Cemetery, Fayette, Mo.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Assn. or the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Maxine D. Slanker, age 93 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. died Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Lee House in Eldon, Mo.
Maxine was born December 9, 1917 in Filmore, Mo. the daughter of Lloyd E. and Estella Mae Elfrits Todd. She was married on March 23, 1940 in  Jefferson City, Mo. to George Daniel Slanker, Sr. who preceded her in death on November 22, 2007.
A resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1936, Maxine graduated from Filmore High School, Filmore, Mo. and the St. Joseph Business College.
She was employed as a secretary in the Missouri State Senate for many years.
Survivors include: one son, Todd Slanker and his wife Linda of Rocky Mount, Mo. ; one daughter, Suzanne Garlich of Sedalia, Mo. ; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lois Gerdes and her husband John of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; four grandchildren, Ann Schneider and her husband Todd of St. Louis, Mo., Susan Medler and her husband Paul of St. Louis, Mo., Brad Garlich and his wife Sella of St. Louis, Mo., and Stacey Ismail and her husband Michael of Linn Creek, Mo. ; one sister, Laurella VonKaenel of Savannah, Mo. ; two nieces, Carol Bell and her husband Dwayne of Liberty, Mo. and Marti Schuman of Filmore, Mo. ; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, George Daniel Slanker, Jr. ; and one sister, Helen Frye.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2011
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel. Private graveside services will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Cole County Senior Nutritional Program.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Paul T. Brandt, age 80 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Paul was born December 15, 1930 in Altoona, Pennsylvania the son of Bernard and Eva Todd Brandt. He was married on November 21, 1950 in  Jefferson City, Mo. to Mary Bledsoe.
A lifelong resident of the  Jefferson City area, Paul became a firefighter in 1962 and was employed with the  Jefferson City Fire Dept. for thirty-four years retiring as a Captain in March, 1996. He had previously been employed with International Shoe Factory. He was a member of St. Peter Church; the International Assn. of Firefighters, Local 671; and was a Golden Eagle with the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2693.
Paul was an expert pool player and enjoyed hunting, barbequing, and crappie fishing. He played softball in his younger years and later in life spent time watching sports on television, especially NASCAR and golf. He would tell tall tales to anyone gullible enough to listen. Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Mary Brandt; two sons, Lonnie Brandt and his wife Linda of Lake MyKee, Mo. and Jerry Brandt and his partner, Kate Spencer of Pierpont, Mo. ; one daughter, Paula Wekenborg and her husband Tom of Taos, Mo. ; one brother, Henry Brandt and his wife JoAnn of Louisville, Mississippi; one sister, Eva Mae Distler and her husband Leroy of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; seven grandchildren, Carly Wagner of Los Angeles, California, Josh Wekenborg of  Jefferson City, Mo., Katie Wekenborg of Taos, Mo., Craig Wekenborg of Tebbetts, Mo., Archer Brandt of Pierpont, Mo., Christina Holt of Centertown, Mo., and Lindsey Holt of Lake MyKee, Mo. ; two great-grandchildren, Connor Wekenborg of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Kionna Holt of Centertown, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald Brandt on April 2, 1980 and Jim Todd on July 6, 1990; and one sister, Linda Wegman on November 29, 2010.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2011. A prayer service will be conducted at 3:30 PM in the Freeman Chapel with a firefighter prayer service to immediately follow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Reverend David Maher officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Vogelweid Learning Center.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Donald L. Jennings, age 78 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. died Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Capital Region Medical Center after battling heart disease.
Don was born April 28, 1932 in Carthage, Mo. the son of Lee M. and Doris Knowles Jennings. He was the great-grandson of a Methodist Circuit Rider, George Knowles, from Sarcoxie Mo.
Don was a 1950 graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage, Mo. and attended Kansas State Teacher College in Pittsburg, Kansas, learning to operate the linotype machine. Don went on to become typesetter at the “Unterrified Democrat” newspaper in Linn.
He was married on May 11, 1952, in Linn, Mo. to Norma Jean Wolfe.
Don joined the Navy during the Korean War and received his basic training at Great Lakes Naval training center in Chicago, Illinois. He went on to serve in Washington DC at the National Security Information Center.
While in the Navy, Don learned to operate IBM accounting machines. He took that training and went to work for the IBM main office in  Jefferson City, where he worked as a Tech Specialist, serving IBM customers at state offices, banks, schools, utility companies and small manufacturers. He retired in 1992 after 38 years of service.
Don was a member of First United Methodist Church; a lifetime member of the NRA; past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2693; the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; and a member of the Teal Bottom River Rats near Henley Mo, since 1965.
He spent many wonderful hours with his family at their cabin, fishing, mowing grass, feeding Humming Birds and just doing nothing on the deck overlooking the mighty Osage River.
An avid photographer, Don loved to take pictures of nature and family celebrations. Many of his nature photos were published in the News Tribune over the years. He spent time planning his weekend schedule by the auction notices from the weekly newspaper. He enjoyed attending area auctions, especially at the Disabled Military Veterans (DMV) building. Above all Don enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandson. They often benefited from hidden treasures from his auction adventures. Don enjoyed spending time at the Capital Region HealthPlex with his friends, sometimes exercising the mouths more than their hearts.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Norma Jennings; four children, Debbie McIlwain of  Jefferson City, Mo, Donnie (Pat) Jennings of Gilman, Iowa, Doug (Lesa) Jennings of Centertown, Mo, and Dana (Tom) Gibler of  Jefferson City, Mo; nine grandchildren, Carrie McIlwain and special friend Eddy Shelley of  Jefferson City, Mo, Katie McIlwain of  Jefferson City, Mo, Ryan (Ashley) Jennings of Chicago, IL, Adam (Theresa) Jennings of Coralville, Iowa, Brett Jennings and special friend Jenna Shine of Gilman, Iowa, Andy Jennings of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Aubrey Sluyter, Hannah Sluyter, and Samantha Gibler all of  Jefferson City Mo; one great grandson, Daniel James “D. J” Brown of  Jefferson City Mo. ; and Don’s special pets, his long-hair daschund, Killigan, and his cat, Precious.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William M Jennings; and sister-in-law, Marna Mortenson Jennings.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 pm Tuesday, February, 15, 2011.
Funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 6:00 pm Tuesday in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Daniel Hilty officiating. Private entombment will held at a later date in the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus or the Capital Region Healthplex.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
