Virginia Nadine Lake, 87, a resident of Columbia since 1999, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center.
Deanie, as we knew her, was born on July 3, 1923 to Chauncey Wilson Robinson and Bessie Gladys Collins Robinson in Kirksville, Mo. She graduated from Kirksville High School and attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. She met her future husband, Eugene E. Lake, who was studying at the Kirksville School of Osteopathy and Surgery and they were married on May 25, 1944 in Kirksville. After 59 years of marriage, Gene preceded her in death in 2003.
Deanie and Gene moved to Kansas City after graduating from the School of Osteopathy for an internship. After the internship, they moved to  Jefferson City where Gene practiced medicine with his father and was a founder of the then Still Hospital.
Deanie and Gene built a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks in 1959 on Indian Creek. The family spent countless weekends over the years enjoying the lake, a tradition that is carried on by parts of the family today.
Deanie was a mother of four and spent her life raising her children. She was an outgoing positive person who was the life of the party. She had a contagious laugh, a great sense of humor and was a great story and joke teller. The family particularly enjoyed her salty joke routine.
While living in  Jefferson City, she enjoyed her weekly bridge games with the girls, something they pursued for 30 years.
Survivors include her children, Becky MacLellan and her husband Jeff of Columbia, Cindy Taylor and her husband Dan of St. Louis, Sonny Lake of Columbia and Greg Lake and his wife Leanne of Columbia; ten grandchildren, Jay and Melissa MacLellan, Carrie and Brian Murray, Reid and Bea Burkhardt, Katie and Scott Wolff, Libby Burkhardt, Sarah and Robby Brown, Ben Lake, Julie and Hank Pleiss, Tom and Marcia Lake and Jessie Lake; and twenty great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Eugene E. Lake, grandson Grahame Lake and great-granddaughter Ava Brown.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, February 21, 2011 at Freeman Mortuary.
A private graveside service will be held at the Kirksville Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Tiger Place for their care, support and friendship shown to Deanie each day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to First Candle in memory of Ava Brown, Phoenix House in memory of Grahame Lake, Assistance League of Mid-Missouri, or an organization benefiting Macular Degeneration.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Laura Ann Harrison, age 54 years, of North Las Vegas, Nevada, a former  Jefferson City resident, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Laura was born August 2, 1956 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of David C. and Allegra Lile Harrison. After graduating from  Jefferson City High School in 1974, Laura followed her life’s passion for helping kids. She received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration from the University of Missouri and then her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Montana.
She is a Johnson & Johnson/UCLA Head Start Fellow.
Laura used her knowledge and passion to help kids starting at the Prenger Family Center in  Jefferson City, Mo., the Wasco County Juvenile Department in The Dalles, Oregon and then the Youth in Need Program in St. Charles, Mo., focusing on reunification of families, specifically families who were living in stressful circumstances. In August, 2008, Laura became the Executive Director of Acelero Learning Center in Clark County, Nevada. Laura and her staff served over two thousand children and families every year. This Head Start Program offers early education services, health, nutrition, disabilities, mental health, and social services to the income eligible children and families. Laura’s vision was to give all children the opportunity to meet their full potential. In addition, Laura actively enjoyed visiting family and friends all across the country. This enjoyment included playing cards, watching movies, fishing, boating, and golfing.
Survivors include: her parents, David and Allegra Harrison of Hartsburg, Mo. ; one brother, David L. Harrison and his wife Betty of Hartsburg, Mo. ; one nephew, Scott Harrison and his wife Tamah of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; and three aunts, Jean Ann Harrison of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Jane Harrison of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Nan Nelson and her husband Tom of Barstow, California.
She was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Joan and Gene Florida, and aunt Barbara Larson. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:30 until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 24, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, February 25, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Covenant Point Youth Camp, 324 Madison St.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101 or the Acelero Charitable Foundation which is creating a scholarship in Laura’s name at 4366 West Cheyenne Avenue, North Las Vegas, Nevada 89032.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mary Emma Schmutz Boessen, 84, was lead to the gates of heaven on February 19, 2011 by the love of her life and guardian angel who preceded her in death, Ralph A. Boessen. She was greeted at the gates by our Heavenly Father; her parents, Emmett and Vera Forbis-Schmutz; and one sister Ila Fern Schmutz-Priest.
Mary was born on January 2, 1927 in  Jefferson City, Mo. where she remained a lifelong resident. On October 3, 1959 she wed Ralph A. Boessen from Loose Creek at the Immaculate Conception Church in  Jefferson City.
She was employed at Division of Employment Security for 45 years retiring in 1992. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ and Elenor Circle; a charter member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2693 Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5 Auxiliary, a 50 year member of the Delta Tau Sorority, and a member of Amvets Post 108 at Rocky Mount. She was an avid bowler for 60 years, having served on the  Jefferson City WBA board as president and secretary, retiring from the board in 2000 when she was awarded life membership in October 2000. In June 2006, she was inducted into the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame and the US Bowling Congress in St. Louis.
Mary took great pleasure entertaining loved ones at her home. She and her husband were the host of many barbeques and holiday events. After she retired, she also enjoyed spending time at the gambling boat with family and friends.
Survivors include: one brother, Emmett Dale Schmutz of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one sister, Sylva O’Dell Schmutz-Hunolt and her husband Rick of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; four sisters-in-law, Laurine Boessen and Alma Boessen form Loose Creek, Mo. and Clara Boessen and Dorothy Boessen of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; six nieces; ten nephews; and twenty-six great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 with an Eagles Auxiliary Memorial Team service held at 6:45 PM.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Missouri River Hospice or Elenor Circle of Central United Church of Christ.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Henrietta L. Massie, age 92 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at her home.
Henrietta was born on March 14, 1918 in Clinton, Mo. the daughter of Louis J. and Anna Florence Mertel Hendrich. She was married on September 22, 1945 in Clinton, Mo. to Gerald R. Massie who preceded her in death on May 11, 1989.
A resident of  Jefferson City since 1945, Henrietta graduated from Clinton High School in 1935 and attended Warrensburg Business College. She was employed as a manager with Firestone Tire and Rubber Store until her retirement in 1945.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; a Girl Scout Leader; a member and past president of Cole County Historical Society; PEO Chapter JB; a docent for 20 years at the Governor’s Mansion and many other community organizations. Henrietta enjoyed sewing, scherenchnitte, gardening and cooking. She was known as a world class bread maker.
Survivors include: one son, Dan T. Massie of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one daughter, Kathleen Pierce and her husband Bill of Webster Groves, Mo. ; two grandchildren, Kristin Pierce of St. Louis, Mo. and Justin Pierce and his wife Christina of St. Charles, Mo.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:30 Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend David Henry officiating.
Private graveside services will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church or to the charity of their choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mr. Jerry E. Mobbs, age 61 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Mexico, Mo. passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 at  Jefferson City Manor Care Center.
He was born on April 16, 1949 in Seattle, Washington a son of Daniel V. and Frances Sims Mobbs. Jerry was the grandson of Clarke and Rosa Sims of Laddonia, Mo. He was married on April 25, 1975, in Seattle, Washington to Candace Strickland.
Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Mexico High School in Mexico, Mo. and later graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Washington .
He served in the United States Navy from 1968 until 1971 and served on the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam Conflict.
Jerry was baptized in the Church of Seattle in 1977.
Jerry was employed as a commercial airbrush spray painter in Spokane, Washington and later moved to Auxvasse, Mo. where he worked at Seale Rite Company for several years until ill health forced his retirement.
Survivors include: his wife, Candace Mobbs of Bothell, Wa. ; his mother, Frances Mobbs of Mexico, Mo. ; one daughter, Tamara Mobbs of Pullman, Wa. ; three sons, Joshua Mobbs of Kirkland, Wa., Jason Mobbs of Bothell, Wa., and Andy O’Connor of Mexico, Mo. ; one step son, David Lombard of Lake City, Wa. ; two sisters, Esther Rose Acton of Mexico, Mo. and Betty J. Finder of Washington Mo. ; one half sister, Dorene E. Beck and her husband Ed of Willard, Mo. ; one half brother, James R. Mobbs and his wife Maxine of Coolville, Oh. ; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Mobbs, on April 28, 1961 and one brother, Thomas Mobbs, on December 22, 2010.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mr. Kenneth Taylor, age 81 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, February 25, 2011 at the  Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Ken was born December 31, 1929 in Dexter, Mo. the son of George and Grace Sifford Taylor. He was married on March 9, 1956 at Lambert, Mississippi to Norma C. Enos, who preceded him in death on April 19, 1982.
Ken served in the United States Army from 1947 until 1950.
He owned and operated Lackland Plaza Barber Shop in St. Louis for over thirty years and later moved to  Jefferson City in 1978.
Ken enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing, and playing cards, but most importantly, spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon K. Fry and her husband Kerry of Stover, Mo. and Kim Taylor of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; three sons, Donald E. Taylor and his wife Laura of St. Louis, Mo., Ronald J. Taylor and his wife Cindy of  Jefferson City, Mo., and James J. Taylor and his wife Debbie of Mokane, Mo. ; one step son, Charles McKeever of Edwardsville, Illinois; one brother, Dale Taylor and his wife Ruby of Warrenton, Mo. ; one sister, Helen Hufstedler of Dexter, Mo. ; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma C. Taylor; one son, Kenneth Dale Taylor; and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be at the Mausoleum of Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. from 12:00 Noon until 12:30 PM Monday, February 28, 2011.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held immediately after the visitation on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Lucille I. Knaup, age 84 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Golden Living Center.
Lucille was born March 23, 1926 in Centerville, Mo. the daughter of Walter and Emma Lutz Ruble. She was married on May 25, 1945 in Centerville, Mo. to John H. Knaup who preceded her in death on September 17, 2000.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Lucille graduated from Centerville High School.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lucille enjoyed caring for and being with family. Survivors include: one son, John Knaup and his wife Linda of California, Mo. ; one daughter, Mary Kay Belongia and her husband Robert of Kenosha, Wisconsin; one sister, Faye Sencibaugh and her husband Pud of Cuba, Mo. ; and two grandchildren, Jason Belongia and Jennifer of  Oklahoma and Jonathan Belongia of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Virgil “Bud” Ruble, Vernon “Ted” Ruble, and Elmer Lee “Doc” Ruble, two sisters, Betty Hunter and Billie Taunt, and one grandson, John D. Knaup on May 2, 2005.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 2, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Interment will be at the Elston Cemetery, Elston, MO.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to charity of their choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Linda K. Forck, age 57 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at her home.
Linda was born December 21, 1953 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of Andrew J. and Teresa F. Falter Kloeppel. She was married on February 2, 1974 in Freeburg, Mo. to Maurice R. Forck. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Linda was a 1972 graduate of Fatima High School, Westphalia, Mo.
She was employed with the Missouri Division of Employment Security for thirty-one years prior to her retirement in October, 2005. She was co-owner of Rademan Heating and A/C, Inc.
Linda was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos, Mo. She enjoyed sewing, reading, watching movies, spending time with her grandchildren and loved the beach.
Survivors include: her husband of thirty-seven years, Maurice R. Forck; her mother, Teresa Kloeppel of Freeburg, Mo. ; three daughters, Amiee Strope and her husband Scott of Linn, Mo., Chrissy Allen and her husband Brian of  Jefferson City, Mo., and Kelly Forck of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; three sisters, Marilyn Kempker and her husband Leonard of Wardsville, Mo., Shirley Sandbothe and her husband Jeron of Taos, Mo., and Karen Engle and her husband Gordon of Eldon, Mo. ; three brothers, Ronnie Kloeppel and his wife Paralee of Freeburg, Mo., Kenneth Kloeppel and his wife Pam of Florida, and Thomas Kloeppel of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; seven grandchildren, Aidan Allen, Logan Allen, Lily Strope, Adam Strope, Curtis Strope, Lauren Strope, and Sydney Strope.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew J. Kloeppel on March 18, 1976.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, March 3, 2011 with a prayer service to be conducted at 3:30 PM in the Freeman Chapel. Visitation will also be from 9:30 until 10:30 AM Friday at St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos. Mo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 AM Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos, Mo. with the Reverend David Maher officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Forck Grandchildren Educational Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
