Mrs. Mary J. Cox, age 66 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at her home.
Mary was born on June 28, 1944 in Geneva, Illinois a daughter of James and Florence Mokarwski Frerichs. She was married on October 9, 1971 in Anaheim, California to Donald E. Cox.
Mary graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Charles, Illinois.
A resident of the central Missouri area for the past fifteen years, Mary was a homemaker the majority of her life.
Survivors include: her husband, Donald Cox; two sons, Christopher Cox and Michael Cox; two daughters, Sandra Sears and Florence Butcher; four sisters, Marjorie Chelbery, Dorothy Garrett, Kathy Frerichs, and Barbara Kajtsa; five brothers, Art Frerichs, James Frerichs, Nicholas Frerichs, Theodore Frerichs, and Raymond Frerichs; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, March 7, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva, Illinois.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Betty J. Knatcal, age 82 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge,  Louisiana.
Betty was born April 4, 1928 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of William L. and Alpha E. Ousley Holliday. She was married on July 10, 1946 in Pfiefer, Arkansas to Johnnie W. Knatcal who preceded her in death on June 30, 2004.
A life long resident of the Central Missouri area, Betty attended  Jefferson City Public Schools.
A homemaker, Betty had been employed with the  Jefferson City Country Club for thirty years.
She was an active volunteer with the  Jefferson City Salvation Army and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include: three sons, Jack H. Knatcal and his wife Marsha of Holts Summit, Mo., Jerry L. Knatcal and his wife Gloria of Mankato, Minnesota, and J. Dean Knatcal of Holts Summit, Mo. ; two daughters, Sandra J. Banta and her husband Frankie of Sunshine,  Louisiana, and Lisa L. Miller and her husband Glenn of Denham Springs,  Louisiana; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Johnny D. Knatcal.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Monday, March 7, 2011.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11:30 AM Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Boone County, Mo. with the Reverend Lewis Curtis officiating.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Beverly Sue Rogers, age 67 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia, Mo.
Sue was born December 30, 1943 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of William D. and Irene Hamacker Duncan. She was married on May 9, 1964 in  Jefferson City, Mo. to Larry Don Rogers who preceded her in death in September, 1996. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Sue attended  Jefferson City Public Schools.
A homemaker, she enjoyed fishing and playing bingo, but most importantly, spending time with family and grandchildren.
Sue was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Jimmy L. Rogers and his wife Patricia of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Jerry Don Rogers and his wife Elyse of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one sister, Joyce Duncan of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one brother, Tommy E. Duncan and his wife Mary of Millersburg, Mo., fourteen grandchildren, Joshua Rogers, Amanda Hawkins and her husband Nick, Danielle Ice and her husband Ryan, Jamie Kliethermes, Jennifer Kliethermes, Ashley Rogers, Tanya Russell, Sara Rogers, Kayleigh Rogers, John Michael Russell, Samantha Rogers, Christen Rogers, Brady Boessen, Jerry Rogers, Jr., and Jacob Rogers; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry; one son, Randall Keith Rogers; and one daughter, Lisa Sue Russell.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2011.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with Chaplain Wayne Opp officiating. Private graveside services and interment will be held at Belle Cemetery in Ethel, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Beverly Sue Rogers Memorial Fund.

Mary Jane “Sissie” Bremmerkamp, age 69 years, of Joplin, Mo., a former  Jefferson City resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Mo.
Mary was born February 16, 1942 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of John M. and Jean Huhman Sommerer. She was married to Thomas Bremmerkamp who preceded her in death in 1989.
She was a resident of the  Jefferson City area until four years ago when she moved to Joplin to be near her sons and their families. Previously, she had also lived in Sikeston and Nevada, Mo.
Mary was a 1960 graduate of  Jefferson City High School and received a degree in education from Lincoln University in 1964. Mary received a Masters in Education from Pittsburgh State University, Pittsburgh, Kansas. She taught school in Sikeston, El Dorado Springs, Nevada, and  Jefferson City. In  Jefferson City, she taught at West and Southwest Elementary School until her retirement in 1999. While attending Lincoln University, she worked for the Missouri State Highway Dept.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also an active member and secretary of the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5, a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Missouri Retired Teachers Assn. She enjoyed oil painting, antique collecting, cooking, playing games and cards, especially canasta and bridge. She belonged to several bridge clubs. She was an accomplished synchronized swimmer.
Mary loved and lived for her family. Her sons and grandsons were the joys of her life. Many family holiday celebrations were held at her home where she would cook and organize activities. Survivors include: two sons, Bill Bremmerkamp and his wife Gail of Carl Junction, Mo. and Sam Bremmerkamp and his wife Erin of Joplin, Mo. ; one brother, Mike Sommerer and Jay of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; three sisters, Jean Wagner of  Jefferson City, Mo., Kathy Sale of  Jefferson City, Mo., and Judy Palazzari of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; two grandchildren, Calvin Bremmerkamp and Max Bremmerkamp; two uncles, Carl Sommerer and his family and Jerome Forck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:30 until 11:00 AM Saturday, March 19, 2011.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Sam Powell officiating. A celebration of Mary’s life will also be held at the American Legion, 1423 Tanner Bridge Road after 1:30 PM Sunday, March 20, 2011. Call Judy Palazzari for meal coordination at 954-243-8041.

Ms. Frances Ann Woods, age 82 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Riverview Nursing Center in Mokane, Mo.
Frances was born on April 27, 1928 in  Jefferson City, Mo. a daughter of James G. Washington and Catherine Salisbury Woods.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Frances worked at Tweedie Footwear Factory for many years and later worked in the home health care industry as a homecare aide.
Survivors include: one sister, Mildred McAllister of Hollister, Mo. ; one nephew, Howard McAllister and wife Sandra of Stafford, Va. ; two nieces, Rose Marie McAllister of Hollister, Mo. and Cathy Milanovich and her husband Ron of Las Vegas, Nv. ; three great nephews; a great niece; along with 6 great-great nieces and 6 great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George Woods Jr., Jesse Woods and John Woods; and one sister, Ellen Woods.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 am Monday, March 21, 2011.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11:30 am Monday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hartsburg, Mo. with the Reverend Francis Doyle officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mary Virginia “Jenny” Christian, age 94 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Golden Living Center.
Jenny was born July 2, 1916 in Elston, Mo. a daughter of Joseph A. and Clara M. Kauffman Sickinger. She was married on December 28, 1936 in Tipton, Mo. to Montie Lynes Christian who preceded her in death on June 22, 1979.
A life long resident of the  Jefferson City area, Jenny was a 1935 graduate of  Jefferson City High School. She was employed with the Capital City Telephone Company as an operator in the traffic department for thirty-six years prior to her retirement in March, 1972.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. She was devoted to her husband, her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Survivors include: one niece, Sue Hirschman of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one nephew, Joseph V. Scherr and his wife Helen of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; great nephews, Greg Gaffke and his wife Stephanie, Randy Scherr and his wife Phyllis, and Kevin Scherr and his wife Debbie; great nieces, Linda Everett and her husband Darrell, Julie Berhorst and her husband Brian, and Keri Austin and her husband David, all of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; great nieces Leanne Lake and her husband Greg of Columbia, Mo., and Staci Bailey and her husband Colin of Osage Beach, Mo., great nephew, Dennis Gaffke and his wife Peggy of Tulsa,  Oklahoma; and brother-in-law, Charles Christian and his wife Liz of Washington , D. C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Alfred and Paul Sickinger; and two sisters, Eulah Scherr Couch and Alpha Elston.
Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Brendan Doyle officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Assn.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. LaVere B. Shelton, age 93 years, of Hartsburg, Mo., died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at St. Marys Health Center.
LaVere was born January 28, 1918 in Mt. Hulda, Mo. the daughter of Jacob H. and Emma E. Kullman Behrens. She was married on May 7, 1939 in Springfield, Mo. to Charles I. Shelton who preceded her in death on January 30, 2006.
A resident of the Central Missouri area for most of her life, LaVere graduated from  Jefferson City High School.
After graduating from high school, LaVere held secretarial jobs with the Conservation Commission, was office manager at Republican State Committee Headquarters for thee different state chairmen, secretarial and clerical jobs with the United State Dept. of Agriculture in Columbia and  Jefferson City, served as a Rural Mail Carrier for Route 2 out of  Jefferson City, and in March, 1960 left  Jefferson City for St. Louis when her husband was transferred to Missouri Pacific Railroad headquarters. After twenty years with the United States Secret Service, she retired as Office Manager of the St. Louis office.
In 1980, LaVere and Charles returned to  Jefferson City and built a home near Hartsburg, Mo.
They traveled in the United States extensively and toured England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Greece, Romania, Turkey, Hungary, Russia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Assn. of Retired Persons. LaVere was an avid bowler for twenty-five years.
Survivors: one daughter, Patricia Shelton of Hartsburg, Mo. ; one son, Michael E. Shelton and his wife Jo Anna and their family, Kelly, JoDee, and Alexander of St. Louis, Mo. ; two grandchildren, Deborah Ranger and Charley Michael Shelton and his wife Patricia; five great grandchildren, Chandler, Joshua, Zada, Tony, and Ryan; one nephew, Allen Beck; and two nieces, Gloria Irwin and Margie Bury.
Preceded in death her parents, her husband, three brothers, Herbert Behrens, Raymond Behrens, and Harold Behrens, and two sister, Selma Wierdeman and Viola Beck.
Private graveside services and entombment will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mr. Louie P. Patterson, age 85 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the  Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Louie was born on March 7, 1926 in Montreal, Mo. a son of Lester and Edna Keown Patterson. He was married on March 7, 1947 in  Jefferson City, Mo. to Peggy Hilgert, who preceded him in death on January 28, 1999.
He served in the United States Army as a Corporal during World War II.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Louie was employed as a salesman with  Jefferson City Distributors furniture store for over thirty years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wyman Basinger Post 35. Louie enjoyed and cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include: two sons, Danny P. Patterson and his wife Joyce of St. Martins, Mo. and Ronald D. Patterson and his wife Therese of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; two daughters, Beverly Coleman and her significant other Ron Fennewald of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Sharon Holtmeyer and her husband Lawrence of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; one brother, Raymond Patterson of Kansas City, Mo. ; five grandchildren, Laurie Coleman and her significant other, Chris Wilson, Amy Schroeder and her husband Clint, Jacob Patterson, Jim Roark and his wife Lacey, and Matt Roark and his wife Rochelle; and four great grandchildren, Henry Schroeder, Raegan Streeter, Joslyn Roark, and Peyton Roark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy; one son, Charles David Patterson; one infant daughter, Peggy Sue Patterson; four brothers, Bill Patterson, Ed Patterson, Conley Patterson, and Wayne Patterson; two sisters, Alice Carter and Bessie “Pearl” Putnam; and one granddaughter, Sheila Roark.
A visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Ed Schmidt officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Hospice Compassus or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mr. George H. Bruss, age 67 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
George was born July 16, 1943 in Ottawa, Illinois the son of Lon H. and Marian Bruss. He was married on June 10, 1967 in Ottawa, Illinois to Luanne A. Farrell.
George graduated from Ottawa High School, Ottawa, Illinois prior to serving in the United States Navy Submarine Corps from 1962 until 1970. He served on the USS Barbero, the USS Barb, and the USS Hammerhead. A resident of the  Jefferson City area for over twenty-five years, George was employed as a consultant in the nuclear power industry working at various power plants including the Callaway Nuclear Plant in Callaway County specializing in operations and procedures.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church; a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; and a member of the United States Submarine Veterans. George is a past Commander and current Vice-Commander of the Topeka- Jefferson City Base of the Submarine Veterans. He served as chairman of the USS  Jefferson City Committee and was a member of the USS Missouri Commissioning Committee.
Survivors include: his wife, Luanne Bruss; one son, Eric Bruss and his wife Jill of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; two brothers, Frank Bruss of Grand Ridge, Illinois and John Bruss of Ottawa, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Alyssa Bruss, Kaelyn Bruss, and Hailey Bruss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Marian Bruss.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Friday, March 25, 2011.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 PM Friday, March 25, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Tony Alter officiating. Military honors will follow the funeral service.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
