Mrs. Fayette Hopkins, age 78 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, April 4, 2011 at the University Hospital, Columbia, Mo.
Fayette was born August 20, 1932 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of Cecil and Bessie Anglin Loethen. She was married on September 23, 1955 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Richard Hopkins, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 17, 1985.
A life long resident of the Central Missouri area, Fayette attended  Jefferson City Public Schools.
Fayette was employed with Von Hoffman Press and later with the Missouri Dept. of Revenue prior to her retirement in 1999.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include: one son, Richard Hopkins, Jr. of  Jefferson City, Mo. ; and two sisters, Margaret Raithel of Kansas City, Mo. and Patsy Holland of Holts Summit, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Harry Loethen and Bobby Loethen, and two sisters, Nellie Woods and Bonnie Campbell.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 7, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, April 8, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with Darlene Imler officiating. Interment will be in the Centertown Cemetery, Centertown, Mo.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to University Hospital, Columbia, Mo.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Edna L. Updegraft, age 98 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Heisinger Bluffs.
Mrs. Updegraft was born January 29, 1913 in  Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of Fred and Lillian Petry Burkhalter. She was married in 1933 to Leland Updegraft who preceded her in death in 1986.
A life long resident of the Central Missouri area, Edna graduated from  Jefferson City High School and  Jefferson City Junior College.
Mrs. Updegraft was an active member of the Central United Church of Christ. She taught in the church school, was involved in the Women’s Fellowship, participated in Prime Time, was a charter member of the Bazaar Circle, and was formerly a member of the Steininger Circle. She was especially active in the music department, directing the junior choir for more than twenty years, accompanying the senior choir for twenty years and singing in the choir for over seventy years.
She was a former member of the Morning Music Club and was active in the Heisinger Bluffs volunteers and auxiliary. Survivors include: two daughters, Marilyn Beckmeyer of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Elaine Langerhans and her husband The Reverend Dr. C. David Langerhans of Paoli, Pennsylvania ; five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Vernon Burkhalter and Oscar Burkhalter.
Visitation will be at the Central United Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday, April 9, 2011
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Central United Church of Christ or Heisinger Bluffs.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Marian Alexander Peterson, age 96 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. passed away April 9, 2011 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
Marian was born September 25, 1914, in Granite City, Illinois to Blossom (Walker) and Norman H. Niedringhaus. At the age of ten, she became a Girl Scout and remained active in that organization as a Camp Counselor, Brownie Leader, and Scout Leader until 1938. When her sons were ready for scouting, she became a Cub Scout Leader. Marian also joined the Presbyterian Church at age ten. Upon graduation from Granite City High School, she attended Washington University in St. Louis.
On August 24, 1934, she married F. Howard Alexander. Job changes with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company took the family from Granite City to Springfield, Joplin, St. Louis County, and in 1955 to  Jefferson City. She was widowed on July 6, 1978, and on December 31, 1979, she married J. Raymond Peterson, who preceded her in death on October 14, 2002.
In 1952, Marian was installed as a Deaconess in the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, and she later was also active as a Deaconess in the  Jefferson City First Presbyterian Church. She became a P. E. O. in Chapter HM in  Jefferson City in1956. She held lifetime memberships in the Cole County Historical Society and Museum, Memorial Hospital/Capitol Region Medical Center Foundation, and the Historic City of  Jefferson, Inc. Marian also volunteered many years, starting at St. Mary's Hospital and later at a cerebral palsy clinic that developed into the Goshorn Center and the Special Learning Center.
Marian loved her family and friends dearly. She loved living in  Jefferson City.
She is survived by: two sons, Norman C. (Debbie) Alexander of Weatherford, Texas , and George D. Alexander of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a sister, Dorothy “Tim” Langdon of Carbondale, Illinois; two granddaughters, Suzanne (David) Delgado of Seattle, Washington , and Michelle (Patrick) Titzer of Centennial, Colorado; two grandsons, David (Karen) Alexander of Rowayton, Connecticut, and Kenneth (Kathy) Alexander of Brentwood, Missouri; two great-grandsons, Benjamin Titzer and Jack Alexander; and four great-granddaughters, Melanie Titzer, Madison Alexander, Sarah Alexander, and Hailey Alexander. She is also survived by a stepson, A. Raymond (Joan) Peterson, their five sons and their wives, and 17 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and an infant son. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 am Saturday, April 16, 2011.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Special Learning Center.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Peggy S. Haymart, age 78 years, of Nashville, Tennessee, formerly of Fulton, Mo., passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Lakeshore Heartland Nursing Home in Nashville.
Mrs. Haymart was born on September 14, 1932 in Morehouse, Mo. She was born and raised in Morehouse, Mo. before moving to Fulton, Mo. where she was a 1950 graduate of Fulton High School.
She was married on October 11, 1952 in Fulton, Mo to Walter J. Haymart. The Haymart family took a tour of the United States compliments of the United States Air Force. They lived in Shiloh, Illinois, Anchorage, Alaska, Denver, Colorado, Knob Noster, Mo. and Evansville, Indiana before returning to Fulton, Mo. in 1968.
Walter and Peggy purchased Callaway Lanes and she helped run the bowling alley until her retirement in 1980. Peggy and Walter moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1985 where she spent twenty years playing slots and watching the game show network. In July 2005, she and Walter returned to mid-Missouri before she moved to Nashville in 2009. Peggy was an avid bowler, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include: two sons, Mike Haymart and his wife Germaine of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Mitch Haymart and his wife Michele of White House, Tennessee; one sister, Elizabeth Cox of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, Chad Haymart of  Jefferson City, Mo., Joanna Haymart of White House, Tennessee, Colleen Helms and her husband Trevor of Town and Country, Mo., and Mandy Beck of  Jefferson City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris James Brown, on April 28, 2001 and her husband, Walter Haymart, on December 13, 2006.
A visitation will be held at Central Christian Church in Fulton, Mo. from 11:00 until 12:00 noon Monday, April 11, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Monday at Central Christian Church, 4670 State Road KK, Fulton Mo. with the Reverend Bruce Williamson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton, Mo.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Susan G. Koman Foundation.

Mr. Leo C. Buscher, age 93 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Westphalia Hills Nursing Center, Westphalia, Mo.
Leo was born November 5, 1917 in Useful, Mo. the son of Frederick and Bercina Enke Buscher. He was married on October 26, 1940 in Bay, Mo. to Opal I. Schneider who preceded him in death on August 30, 1980.
A life long resident of the Central Missouri area, Leo was a farmer from 1941 until 1968. From 1968 until his retirement in 1982, he was employed with Von Hoffman Press.
He was a member of Central United Church of Christ. Leo loved to fish.
Survivors include: two sons, Marvin L. Buscher and his fiancée, Sue of Osage Beach, Mo. and Ronald O. Buscher of Rich Fountain, Mo. ; one sister, Jewell D. Schade of St. Louis, Mo. ; eleven grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Laverne I. Moeller in 2001 and her husband Albert Moeller; two daughters-in-law, Geraldine Buscher and LaDonna Buscher; two brothers, Alfred Buscher and Rudolph Buscher, and one sister, Marie Huebler,
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Central United Church of Christ, 118 West Ashley St.,  Jefferson City, MO. with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Central United Church of Christ or the charity of their choice.

Mr. Lashley Gray Garnett, age 75 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Heisinger Bluffs where he had been a resident for four months.
Lashley was born on a farm north of Centertown on June 7, 1935, the son of George L. and Annie Buckner Garnett. He was married on December 26, 1959 in Springfield, Mo. to Nina Jean Bench. He attended elementary school in Mud Creek and Rock Creek schools. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. He attended the  Jefferson City Junior College, Hannibal LaGrange College in Hannibal, Mo., and graduated from  Louisiana Baptist College in Pineville,  Louisiana with a Bachelors of Arts Degree, with a major in music education in 1962. He later received his masters of education in August 1969 from the University of Missouri – Columbia.
Lashley moved to Ava, Mo where he taught music for two years. In 1964, he was employed by the  Jefferson City Public Schools as an elementary teacher. He became the first principal of Cedar Hill Elementary School in 1970. Lashley then served as the Director of Buildings and Grounds for the  Jefferson City School District from 1976 until his retirement on November 30, 1993 after serving Missouri schools for thirty-one years.
Lashley’s last building project as Director of Building and Grounds involved the construction of Thomas  Jefferson and Lewis and Clark Middle Schools, plus additions and remodeling of the Simonsen Ninth Grade Center and several elementary schools. Lashley’s passion was farming and after moving back to  Jefferson City and Centertown, he farmed two hundred thirty-five acres, raising cattle and hay.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of  Jefferson City where he was deacon emeritus. He served as chairman of the Building Committee during construction of the new sanctuary. He was also a member of the  Jefferson City Rotary Club and the Lion's Club of Ava, Mo. He had served as a part-time music director at LeCompte,  Louisiana, the Main Street Baptist Church in California, Mo., and Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo.
Survivors include: his wife of fifty-one years, Nina Garnett; one daughter, Lori Ann Reed and her husband Kerry; two grandchildren, Brady Gray Reed and Michaela Moore Reed; two sisters, Madeline Schneck of Tempe, Arizona and Rose Thompson and her husband Marvin of Kansas City, Mo. ; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ravine Garnett and one brother, Robert L. Garnett.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 14, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, April 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at the Centertown Cemetery, Centertown, Mo.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Windermere Baptist Conference Center, Roach, Mo.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mrs. Betty Ambrose, age 88 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Capital Region Medical Center. Betty Lucille Hunt was born on December 17, 1922 in Monett, Mo., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. I. Hunt, both deceased. On November 17, 1946, in  Jefferson City, Mo., she was united in marriage to John Leslie Ambrose, who preceded her in death on March 2, 2009.
She graduated in 1940 from Monett High School and in 1942 from Monett Junior College. In 1944 Betty began working for the Veterans Administration and moved to  Jefferson City. She was employed by the Veterans Administration, the Missouri Attorney General Office, and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce. She was a secretary to Governor Phil Donnelly, and was appointed by the Governor to be the Secretary to Major Curtis Brostron during his role as lead investigator of the 1954 Missouri Penitentiary Riot. She later worked for the Employment Security Credit Union, the Missouri Bus and Truck Association, and the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association.
After retirement Betty was a volunteer with the Capital Region Medical Center Auxiliary where she put her sewing and quilting skills to good use. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church and a past member of Beta Sigma Phi. Betty is survived by her two sons, Thomas Hunt Ambrose, his wife Joan of Wilmette, IL and their children Dan and Sarah; and Dr. William Leslie Ambrose and his wife Becky of  Jefferson City and their children Whitney and Elliott; two sisters, Mrs. Helen McNeely of Henrico, VA and Mrs. Joanne Auinbaugh of Webster Groves, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a brother, Raymond Hunt; and three sisters, Elnora Hunt, Roberta Dore and Doris Lipcaman.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of  Jefferson City or the Capital Region Medical Center Partner’s Auxiliary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Robert Tracy Vostal, age 75 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., Naples, Fl. and Warren, R. I., passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at his home. Mr. Vostal was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Brooklyn, N. Y., son of Joseph and Edna Tracy Vostal. On May 21, 1960, he was married to Barbara Ann Hampson of Glen Ridge, N. J., who preceded him in death in 1999. On May 26, 2002, he was married in  Jefferson City, Mo., to Nancy Pippin Duggins, who survives at the home. Mr. Vostal grew up in Tenafly and Englewood, N. J. He attended Englewood Public Schools and graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in 1953, where he lettered in basketball and soccer. During his childhood, he attended St. Paul Episcopal Church serving as a choir and altar boy. In 1957, he received a bachelor of arts from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N. H. where he was a member of the varsity soccer team, Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity and the Sphinx Senior Society. He was a proud member of the United States Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964. As a bond specialist for more than 28 years, Mr. Vostal worked for several east coast companies including Rogers & Lamb, The First Boston Corporation, E. F. Hutton & Company, Inc., W. H. Morton & Company, B. J. Van Ingen & Company, Inc. and E. A. Moos. Mr. Vostal was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York and served on the Revenue Bond Committee of Security Industry Associates (SIA). In his leisure time, he was a member of the  Jefferson City Country Club, First United Methodist Church, JC Men’s Senior Golf Association and the Friday Noon Men’s Round Table Group. He also served on the Board of Governors for Capital Regional Medical Center, the capital campaign committee for the Goldschmidt Cancer Center, and the campaign steering committee for the Sam B. Cook HealthPlex, all in  Jefferson City, Mo.
Mr. Vostal’s passion for making a difference in people’s lives led him and Nancy to name the Goldschmidt Healing Center Garden to provide a place of serenity for patients, their families and staff. During his time in Missouri, he became an active supporter of the University of Missouri Alumni Association, Tiger Scholarship Fund,  Jefferson Club, Cole County Historical Society, Friends of Arrow Rock and AARP.
In Florida, Mr. Vostal was a past president and the current vice president of the Vanderbilt Shores Condominiums Association, served on the Dartmouth Mini Reunion Committee, and was a member of the Audubon Country Club and First United Methodist Church.
Other civic organizations to which he volunteered his time and expertise included the Essex Fells Country Club where he served as the president of the board of trustees, the Juvenile Conference Committee and the Borough Council, all in the state of New Jersey.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two children, Tracy (Mark) Pearson of Warren, R. I. and Kenneth (Sarah) Vostal of Summit, N. J. ; four step children, Ralph (Susy) H. Duggins, III of Fort Worth, Tex., Dru Duggins Gilbert, Chicago, Ill., Martha Duggins Leonard, Dallas, Tex., and Elizabeth (Kenneth) Duggins Green, Leawood, Kan. ; 16 grandchildren, Kelly, Hannah and Nicholas Pearson of Warren, N. J., Joseph and Erin Vostal of Summit, N. J., Kurt and Lauren Vostal of Manasquan, N. J., Phillip and Thomas Duggins of Fort Worth, Tex., Olivia and Samuel Leonard of Dallas, Tex., Nancy Pippin and Miles Green of Leawood, Kan., Ashley (John) Hayes of Spartansburg, S. C., and Elizabeth and Emily Gilbert of Chicago, Ill. ; and one great-grandson, Rollins Hayes of Spartansburg, S. C. He is also survived by one cousin, Marian Diehl, of Post Crane, N. Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robert H. Vostal.
Mr. Vostal sincerely loved people and maintained close connections with friends across the country which he met in high school, college and throughout his life. He will indeed be missed by many.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Daniel Hilty and the Reverend Dr. E. Gene Rooney officiating. A visitation will be held immediately following the funeral service in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 3:30 PM Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Ridge Park Cemetery at Marshall, Mo.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Vostal-Duggins Healing Garden at Capital Region Medical Center, c/o Capital Region Medical Foundation, P. O. 1128,  Jefferson City, Mo., 65102 or to First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe St.,  Jefferson City, Mo., 65101.
