AMBURN
Dixie Jo Amburn, 61, Morrison, died Aug. 24, 1999, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born
Oct. 25, 1937, in Galveston, Texas, a daughter of Mansell and Lorraine Sallier Williams. Her mother survives in Galveston.
A homemaker, she worked for Florsheim Shoe Company for many years.
She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, Morrison.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Beverly Woodland, Jefferson City, and Beth Nolte, Morrison; one son, Bill Amburn, Harrison, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
One son, Robert Amburn Jr., preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James United Church of Christ. The Rev. Bruce Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Morrison.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Toedmann-Grosse Funeral Home, Morrison.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
GERLING
Theodore Louis Gerling, 53, Jefferson City, died Aug. 24, 1999, at his home.
He was born
Nov. 10, 1945, in Jefferson City, a son of Louis T. and Veronica Ann Bax Gerling.
A 1964 graduate of New Bloomfield High School, he was a veteran of the Missouri National Guard. He had worked as a binder for Von Hoffmann Press since 1964. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5.
Survivors include: three sons, Louis Gerling, Etterville, Roger Gerling, Linn, and Donnie Gerling, Jefferson City; two daughters, Lora Zaner, Ashland, and Melissa Gerling, Holts Summit; one brother, Edward Gerling, Jefferson City; six sisters, Dorothy Neeley, Las Vegas, Norma Buckley, O'Fallon, Mildred Beauchamp, Mexico, Lucille Lock, O'Fallon, Marge Pfenenger, Jefferson City, and Janie Lock, Belle; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Greg Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5, or the American Cancer Society.
NEWMAN
Jean Newman, 75, Eldon, died Aug. 20, 1999, at her home.
She was born
Nov. 17, 1923, in Greenridge, a daughter of Okee L. and Iva C. Swope Rice. She was married
July 20, 1961, in Marshall, to Joe W. Newman, who died April 26, 1998.
She was a graduate of Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School, and attended college in Florida. She was a Navy veteran of World War II.
She was a hostess at a family-owned restaurant.She acted in plays in Sedalia and was a member of the Toastmasters Club.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Schlotter, Springfield, and Barbara Nunez, Kansas City.
The body was cremated. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Nelson Cemetery, Nelson
Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
OWEN
Services were today for Roy K. Owen, 79, Springfield, Ill., who died Aug. 21, 1999, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, Ill.
He was born
June 3, 1920, in Halifax, Va., a son of Thomas B. and Ella Jennings Owen. He was married
in 1946, in Jefferson City, to Mary C. "Connie" Conrad, who survives at the home.
He was a Marine Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed as a civil engineer with the Illinois Department of Transportation for 26 years until his retirement in 1981.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Springfield, Ill.
Survivors include: one son, Dr. R. Kent Owen, Kinross, Mich.; one brother, Louis J. Owen, Sterling, Va.; Virginia Jennings, Richmond, Va.; and one grandchild.
Services were at St. Agnes Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Patrick J. Wright, V.F., officiated. Private graveside services will be Thursday in Resurrection Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Elskamp will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Agnes Improvement Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.
TOMBS
Charles L. Tombs, 76, Bandera, Texas, died Aug. 23, 1999, at Southwest Texas Veterans Health Care System Kerrville Division, Kerrville, Texas.
He was born
Jan. 15, 1923, in Purvis, a son of Charles E. and Maudie May Coles Tombs.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a steel worker at Armco Steel, Kansas City, until his retirement.
He was a member of VFW Post 5902, Gravois Mills, and the Masonic Lodge, Kansas City.
He was a former resident of Kansas City.
Survivors include: one daughter, Tracy Forest, Kansas City; one brother, Andrew M. Tombs, Versailles; and one sister, Betty Jo Mower, Wellsville, Kan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial, with military honors, will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
HARPER
Robert D. Harper, 76, Centertown, died Aug. 24, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born
Nov. 9, 1922, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of Robert W. and Ruth Ann Anderson Harper. He was married
July 9, 1966, in Jefferson City, to Ada Gibson LaRue, who survives at the home.
A graduate of Centertown High School, he was a member of Centertown Baptist Church. He worked for Truman Walker Construction for 18 years and Sid Fox Jr. Company for 22 years, retiring in 1983.
Other survivors include: six sons, David Harper, Anthony Harper and Wesley Harper, all of the home, David LaRue and Billy LaRue, both of Jefferson City, and Benny LaRue, Centertown; four daughters, Mary Gann and Carolyn Dusheke, both of Jefferson City, Jennifer Harper, of the home, and Linda Stillman, New Bloomfield; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. John Warren will officiate. Burial will be in Centertown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

MILLER
Harvey J. Miller, 93, Jefferson City, died Aug. 25, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born
Jan. 12, 1906, in Mitchell County, Kansas, a son of Marion M. and Clara Cordelia Earnest Miller. He was married
Dec. 3, 1938, in Fulton, to Beatrice Jones, who died Sept. 25, 1983.
He worked in maintenance at the Department of Corrections in Jefferson City from 1945 until his retirement in 1971. He was active on the Middle River Cemetery Board.
Survivors include: one son, Glen Miller, Jefferson City; one daughter, Lola Wekenborg, Tebbetts; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Viola Mae Miller, died in 1941.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit. The Rev. David Avery will officiate. Burial will be in Middle River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the Middle River Cemetery Association.
PERKINSON
Ruby Mosley Perkinson, 86, Mokane, died Aug. 25, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born
April 25, 1913, in Callaway County, a daughter of Clyde and Rosie Frey Mosley.
A lifelong resident of Callaway County, she was a member of Mokane Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Alan K. Perkinson, Kansas City; three daughters, Yvonne Stone, Macon, Carol Perkinson, Studio City, Calif., and Elberta Shimp, Morganville, Kan.; one brother, Carson Mosley, Mexico; one sister, Opal Farson, Longmont, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her stepfather, John Samuel Hornbuckle, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Harold Case will officiate. Burial will be in Hams Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials are suggested to Mokane Christian Church or to the American Cancer Society.
PACE
Kenneth Dean Pace, 61, Gravois Mills, died Aug. 24, 1999, at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Columbia.
He was born
Oct. 2, 1937, near Gravois Mills, a son of Joseph F. and Leta Allen Pace. His mother survives in Gravois Mills.
He worked as a carpet installer in the Lake area since 1969.
Other survivors include: five sons, Marty Pace, Gary Pace and Shaun Pace, all of Gravois Mills, Chris Pace, Sunrise Beach, and Kurt Pace, Ashland; two daughters, Kimberly Talbott, Phillipsburg, and Melissa Pace, Gravois Mills; three brothers, Joe T. Pace, Versailles, Robert Pace, Fortuna, and Carl Pace, Jefferson City; one sister, Nina Pace, Gravois Mills; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. Burial will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
