Mr. Harding G. Buescher, age 90 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Golden Living Center surrounded by his loving family.
Harding was born March 4, 1921, at Hermann, Mo. the son of Frederick A. and Hilda E. Luetkemeyer Buescher. He was married on July 2, 1950 in  Jefferson City, Mo. to Bonita L. Strobel who preceded him in death on August 31, 1986. He married Betty Louise Moreau Sapp on June 5, 1990 in  Jefferson City, Mo.
A life-long resident of the Central Missouri area, Harding attended school in Boone County, Mo. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and is named at the National World War II Memorial. In his early career, he was employed with the Osterloh & Buescher Blacksmith Shop and the Wilson Service Station in Columbia. After 38 years, he retired from Fabick and Company on March 15, 1989. He was a member of the Central United Church of Christ and the Men’s Brotherhood; a charter member of the American Legion Post 424 at Hartsburg, Mo.; and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 35.
Harding, a devoted family man loved to hunt, fish and garden. He most enjoyed travel to the 557th Army Reunions. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, and enjoyed country music and gin rummy.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty; two sons, Norman (Sandra) Buescher and Randy (Donna) Sapp; three daughters, Marilynn Medley, Gwendolyn (Kyle) Vieth, and Janice (Edward) Graves; brother, Leroy (Jean) Buescher; sister, Eleanora Oelschlaeger; brothers-in-law, Virgil Moreau and Kenneth (Billie Sue) Moreau; sisters-in-law, Carol Buescher, Dorothy Zumwalt and Belva (Frankie) Crane; grandchildren, Michelle Medley, Jonathan Medley, Christopher Vieth, Heather Dwiggins, Quinn Blades, Amy Amundson, Elizabeth Hale, Robert Sapp, Derek Sapp, and Dusty Hessenkemper; great grandchildren, Blake Dwiggins, Taylor and Cody Amundson, Alex and Connor Hale, Cody and Kenny Knox, Abigail and Parker Sapp, and Sophia, Ethen, and Cooper Hessenkemper; nieces; nephews; a special neighbor, Mary Albin; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; wife Bonita; brothers, Clarence and Frederick Buescher; one sister, Gladys Brehe; brother-in-laws, Norman Strobel, Milton Brehe, George Oelschlaeger, and Eldon Zumwalt; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Buescher, Viola Moreau; and grandson-in-law, Daniel Amundson.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday, August 7, 2011 and at the Central United Church of Christ from 9:00 until 10:00 AM Monday.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Monday, August 8, 2011 at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Central United Church of Christ, the American Legion Post 424, SSM Hospice, or charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary of  Jefferson City, Mo.

Mr. Ira G. “Woody” Woodward, Jr., age 84 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, August 5, 2011 at St. Mary’s Health Center.
Woody was born September 19, 1926 in Clay County, Arkansas the son of Ira G., Sr. and Angie Thraham Woodward. He was married on January 12, 1944 in Kennett, Mo. to Clara M. Jackson.
Woody graduated from Rector High School in Rector, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1947 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
He was a long time minister with the Church of Christ in Caruthersville, Mo. and the surrounding area of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas including Pocahontas and Mammoth Springs. He also served in the  Jefferson City, Fulton, Belle, and Crocker area of Central Missouri. He has been an active member of the Dix Road Church of Christ and the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ since moving to  Jefferson City.
Woody worked for many years as a lineman for the Arkansas-Missouri Power Company along the Arkansas-Missouri border from Caruthersville, Mo. to Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. He was the manager of a soda bottling company in Caruthersville, Mo. for two years. He then entered the life insurance business in Arkansas and Illinois where he spent several years in Springfield, Illinois. Woody moved his family to  Jefferson City in 1963, where he was a founding member and President of Mark Twain Life Insurance Company prior to his retirement in1971.
In 1969, he started to develop the Woodward Lake Subdivision on the west side of  Jefferson City. From 1977 until 1982, he and his son Gary ran the Western Auto Associate Store in Eldon, Mo. He completed Woodward Lake Subdivision in 2002.
Woody loved to hunt and fish in Missouri, Arkansas, South Dakota, and Colorado.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-seven years, Clara; three children, Gary Woodward and his wife Bernice Jean of  Jefferson City, Mo., Lucretia Wooton and her husband Paul of Huntington Beach, California, and Angelia Wyatt of Vichy, Mo.; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gilbert E. Woodward; one brother, Jack Woodward; three sisters, Wilma Morris, Joyce Roush, and Jean Poppy; and one son-in-law, Wesley Wyatt.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 12:30 until 2:00 PM Monday, August 8, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, August 8, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with Mr. Carey Terry and the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Children’s Home, Inc. of Paragould, Arkansas

Mrs. Mary Ellen Ballard, age 89 years, of  Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Mulberry, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at  Jefferson City Manor Care Center.
Mary Ellen was born on February 23, 1922 a daughter of Leonard Charles “Slim” and Nora Waits Phillips. She was married on June 20, 1954 to Olen Ballard, who preceded her in death on May 12, 1985.
Mary Ellen graduated from Mulberry High School in Mulberry, Arkansas, and was a homemaker for the majority of her life. Survivors include: her daughter, Linda Webster and her husband Doug of Fulton, Missouri.; one sister, Mabel Overstreet of Mulberry, Arkansas; and two grandsons, Douglas Olen Webster and Christopher Charles Webster, both of Fulton, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Yerton, and one brother, L. C. Phillips, Jr.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 11, 2011 at The New Cemetery in Mulberry, Arkansas.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary in  Jefferson City, Mo.

Mr. Clyde W. Smith, age 85 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
Clyde was born March 28, 1926 in Rector, Arkansas the son of Collie B. and Clara E. Williams Smith. He was married on May 6, 1947 in Rector, Arkansas to Betty J. Norman.
Clyde attended school in Rector, Arkansas and served in the United States Navy during World War II.
A resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1958, he was employed with Delong’s, Inc. and as a store clerk at Gerbes West until his retirement in 1986.
Clyde was a member of the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, but most importantly, reading the Bible and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-four years, Betty Smith; one son, James Robert Smith and his wife Patty of Portales, New Mexico; one daughter, Janet R. Wyrick and her husband Ray of  Jefferson City, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Schenk of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Neal Schoessel of Osceola, Arkansas; four grandchildren, James Clyde Smith and his wife Kim of Farmington, New Mexico, Cam Nicole Isbell and her husband Robert of Farmington, New Mexico, Dane Wyrick of Omaha, Nebraska, and Emilee Wyrick of  Jefferson City, Mo.; five great grandchildren, Dillon and Reagan Smith and Hannah, Halee, and Robert “Bobby” Isbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and five brothers.
Visitation will be at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ with Brent Newton officiating. Military honors will follow the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Children’s Home, Inc. in Paragould, Arkansas, Fair Haven Children’s Home in Strafford, Mo., or the Fairground Roads Church of Christ.

The Reverend Jacob Arnold Bickel, age 85 years, of California, Mo., died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at St. Marys Health Center.
Arnold was born April 27, 1926 in Cole County, Mo. the son of Jacob and Mattie Elizabeth Moad Bickel. He was married on October 21, 1946 in  Jefferson City, Mo. to Hattie E. Essary.
Arnold attended  Jefferson City Public School prior to serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas and the Midwestern Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.
Arnold was a Baptist minister for many years serving parishes at Hope Baptist Church in Hollis,  Oklahoma, Roaring Springs Baptist Church in Roaring Spring, Texas , Bethlehem Baptist Church in Centralia, Mo., Immanuel Baptist Church in  Jefferson City, Mo., and First Baptist Church in Troy. He served as Pastor and Director of Missions at First Baptist Church in Mexico until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he served as Interim Pastor at Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo., and Richland Baptist Church in Kingdom City, Mo. Later, he served as Interim Pastor and later Pastor at the Salem Baptist Church in California, Mo. until his retirement in 2009. He served in the Missouri State Executive Committee of the Missouri Baptist Convention and was the Chaplain of the Missouri Senate.
He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church in California, Mo.; a member of the  Jefferson City and California Ministerial Alliance; and a past member of the Host Lions Club of  Jefferson City.
Arnold was an accomplished oil painter who enjoyed sharing his painting with others.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-four years, Hattie Bickel; one son, Stephen P. Bickel and his wife Carolyn of Branson, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Bellville of St. Louis, Mo., Betty Mosley of Columbia, Mo., and Jan Craghead and her husband Pete of Fulton, Mo.; three brothers, Donald Bickel and his wife Pat of Lexington, South Carolina, Gene Bickel of  Jefferson City, Mo., and Marvin Bickel of  Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kelley Bergman and her husband David, Leslie Wilhelmsen and her husband Ronny, Kirk Bickel and his wife Alison, Stacey Fischer and her husband Devin, and Kory Bickel and his wife Alison; and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Bickel in 1992 and one brother, John Bickel in 1999.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, August 12, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Roy Barnard and the Reverend G. Dale Norfolk officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Salem Baptist Church, California, Mo.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

Mr. Bradley Craig Hall, age 46 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011.
Brad was born on June 21, 1965 in North Kansas City, Mo. the son of Morris R. and Judith A. Wilde Hall. He was married on August 17, 1995 in the Bahamas to Jennifer Raber who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Brad graduated from California R-1 High School in 1983. He received a B. S. in Political Science from the University of Missouri in 1987 and a Masters in Public Administration in 1991.
Brad was employed with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as the Administrator of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention. His previous employment was with the Department of Revenue and the Missouri Office of Administration with Design and Construction from 1995 until 1997. Brad was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Mizzou Alumni Association, and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors. He was teaching graduate courses at Webster University at Fort Leonard Wood. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and always enjoyed watching his kids play sports, especially his daughters play Lady Jays Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer and his son play Upwards basketball and YMCA soccer. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family, friends, and his favorite dog, K. C.
Survivors include: his wife of sixteen years, Jennifer Hall; two daughters, Bailey Kaitlyn Hall and Madisson Paige Hall of the home; one son, Carson Bradley Hall of the home; his parents, Morris and Judith Hall of California, Mo.; one sister, Shelley Hall-Lloyd and her husband Greg of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Sharon Coleman and her husband Bill; his father-in-law, William Raber and his wife Janet; one sister-in-law, Laurie Coleman; two brothers-in-law, Craig Raber and his wife Devon and Jonathan Raber; a maternal grandmother, Marcella Wilde; one grandmother-in-law Frances Sanders; three aunts, Marcia Newland and her husband Roger, Grace Wood and her husband Curly; and Twila Thomas; four uncles, Kendall Wilde, Greg Wilde and his wife Wanda, Larry Hall, and Gail Hall; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Aubrey and Irene Hall and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Wilde.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 3:00 until 6:00 pm Monday, August 15, 2011.
A celebration of Brad’s life will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, August 15, 2011 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Van Mitchell officiating.

Mrs. Josephine L. Boltz, age 89 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Oak Tree Villa Nursing Center.
She was born August 24, 1921 in St. Elizabeth, Mo. the daughter of Thomas J. and Gertrude Wilbers Warden. She was married to Leslie Valentine who preceded her in death. On May 12, 1947 in Olathe, Kansas, she married Roy M. Boltz who preceded her in death on December 9, 1985.
A life long resident of the Central Missouri area, Josephine was a 1939 graduate of the Columbia School of Beauty. She was a beauty operator with several beauty shops for several years.
She was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Revenue for over twenty years as an Assistant Section Clerk and later as Assistant Supervisor of Audit and Edit Section until ill health forced her retirement in October 1, 1976.
She was a member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and a member of the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003. Josephine enjoyed crappie and trout fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks with her son.
Survivors include: one son, Roy M. Boltz, Jr. of  Jefferson City, Mo.; and one daughter, JoAnn Valentine Duenkel of  Jefferson City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two brother, Roman Warden and Frank Warden, and three sisters, Reginia Berhorst, Eleanor Lueckenhoff Horning, and Rose Twehous.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Monday, August 15, 2011.
Private graveside services and entombment will be conducted at the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Assn.

Mr. David Henry Donnelly, age 87 years, of  Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Parc Provence in St. Louis, Mo.
David was born January 9, 1924 in Mason City, Illinois the son of Oswald J. and Esther S. Boyd Donnelly. He was married on July 27, 1952 in Springfield, Illinois to Eva Jo Schmidt.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a communications chief in New Guinea and the Philippines and was awarded six bronze stars.
David graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois with a degree in engineering management.
He was employed in production and management for the Pillsbury Company in Minnesota, Illinois, and Ohio. In 1966, he became employed with Chesebrough-Ponds and was the plant manager of the Chesebrough-Ponds Plant in  Jefferson City. He retired in 1989. After retirement, he co-founded the Pathways Group, Inc. a consulting firm.
David was an active volunteer in  Jefferson City and cared deeply about the community. He was a member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church; was a founding member of the Capital Region Medical Center Foundation; was instrumental in the first capital fund campaign to build the first Y. M. C. A. and later served as chairman of the board of directors of the Y. M. C. A.; was member and past president of the  Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce; was a past chairman of the  Jefferson City Area United Way; served on the Board of Directors of  Jefferson Bank; served as a counselor for the Mid-Missouri Chapter of SCORE; was the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hospice of  Jefferson City; was a past chairman of the board of Salvation Army; and was a proud member of the  Jefferson City Rotary Club.
David was appointed by Governor Christopher Bond to the Board of Curators at Lincoln University during Governor Bond’s term in office.
David had great pride and pleasure in mentoring children at Thorpe Gordon Elementary School for many years. He enjoyed his basement workshop and playing golf. He also enjoyed family time at his home at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Survivors include: his wife of fifty-nine years, Eva Jo Donnelly; two daughters, Sarah K. Crenshaw of  Jefferson City, Mo. and Mary D. Billmeyer and her husband Craig of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; four grandchildren, David W. Crenshaw and his wife Molly, Rachel K. Crenshaw; Andrew M. Billmeyer, and Allison J. Billmeyer; five brothers and sisters, Evelyn Mellinger, George Donnelly, Frank Donnelly, Joan Finney, and Patricia Cross and her husband Dr. Chauncey Cross, all of Springfield, Illinois.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, September 16, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Daniel Hilty and the Reverend Mark Dumas officiating. Private graveside services and entombment with military honors will be conducted at the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Capital Region Hospital Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
