HANNIBAL - Edith B. Elgin, 82, of New London, died at 6:54 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Roger Huff will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Elgin was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Paynesville to Walter and Mary Robert Patton.
She was married to Gip Elgin on Aug. 8, 1935, in Clarksville. He preceded her in death April 23, 1985.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat Epperson of New London; one sister, Dorothy Dawson of Eolia; two grandchildren, Charles Epperson of Jackson, Mich., and Stephanie Couch of Center; and four great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to include as a survivor, one son-in-law, Frank Epperson.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jack Elgin; two sisters; and one brother.
Mrs. Elgin was a Christian by faith.
Pallbearers will be John Bunn Sr., Charles Wayne Snell, Richard Epperson, Ray Dowell Jr., Brian Fowler and Carl Stout.
Charlotte Sampson
Hannibal
Sept. 8, 1928 - Nov. 2, 2001
HANNIBAL - Charlotte Rigg Schoonover Sampson, 73, of Hannibal, died at 11:38 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Smith Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Paul Bond will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sampson was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Abilene, Texas , to the Rev. Floyd W. and Johanna Linke Rigg.
She was married to Keith Schoonover. He preceded her in death July 17, 1987. She was later married to William E. (Bill) Sampson on Aug. 13, 2000, in Hannibal. He survives.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Sharon Walley and Carol Bridgeman, both of Hannibal; seven stepgrandchildren, Larry W. Tischer Jr., Dennis L. Tischer, Mark S. Tischer and Suzie Cox, all of Hannibal, Valerie Dodd and Darin J. Bridgeman, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Scott Bridgeman of Wichita, Kan.; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family wishes to include as survivors two stepsons-in-law, Ronald J. Walley and Scott Bridgeman; several nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Florence Schoonover of Clarence.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lou A. Goering.
Mrs. Sampson was a graduate of Clarence High School in Clarence and continued her education at Truman State University, St. Louis University and Quincy College. She held a master's degree in history and psychology.
Mrs. Sampson taught history and psychology at Hannibal-LaGrange College for seven years and was a guidance counselor and history teacher at Hannibal Middle School for 13 years. She had previously worked at F & M Bank in Hannibal. She had been a volunteer at Hannibal Regional Hospital for several years.
Mrs. Sampson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hannibal.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Northeast Missouri Humane Society in Hannibal.
Pallbearers will be Ronald J. Walley, Scott Bridgeman, Lee Schoonover, Don Dixon, Paul Arnett and David Quinlin.

Shelbyville
Nov. 15, 1934 - Nov. 2, 2001
SHELBYVILLE - Vera Gupton, 66, of Shelbyville, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbyville. The Rev. Pat Colley will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gupton was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Shelby County to Clarence Christine and Reva Elizabeth Worley Thompson.
She was married to Paul Gupton. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, David Gupton of Kirksville and Rusty Gupton of Bethel; and one daughter, Mary Teresa Gupton of Shelbyville.
She was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Paul Gupton; and three brothers.
Mrs. Gupton was a member of Shelbyville Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Viola P. Owen

TROY - Viola P. Owen, 96, of Troy, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Troy Manor.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. The Rev. Ken Wells will officiate. Burial will be at Sulphur Lick Cemetery in Troy.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Owen was born Aug. 11, 1905, in Lincoln County to Frank and Ella Bricker Meister.
She was married to Porter Thomas Owen on Oct. 7, 1923, near Davis. He preceded her in death May 28, 1966.
Survivors include one daughter, Violet Crouch of Troy; three sons, Porter Thomas Owen Jr. of Tularosa, N.M., Jim Owen of Dayton, Ohio, and Jack Owen of Troy; one sister, Elsie Raney of Troy; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to include as survivors her son-in-law, Elwood Crouch; her daughters-in-law, Mary Owen, Anne Owen and Frieda Owen; her brother-in-law, Jewel Raney; and her sister-in-law, Floy Meister of Troy.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Meister.
Mrs. Owen was a homemaker. She had been a member of First Baptist Church in Troy for many years.
Memorials may be made to American Heartland Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Larry Crouch, Jason Owen, Howard Owen, Rodney Owen, Thomas Owen and Marshall Suddarth.

PALMYRA - Floyd L. Bishop, 85, of Philadelphia, Mo., and formerly of Steffenville, died at 12 a.m. Sunday morning, Nov. 4, 2001, at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. The Rev. Dwayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will be at Steffenville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Bishop was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Knox County to Willie and Belle Hudson Bishop.
He was married to Alice Mitchell on Aug. 24, 1936, in Palmyra. She survives at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Also surviving are one son, Jim Bishop of Hannibal; one daughter, Judy Drebenstedt of Philadelphia; one sister, Dorothy Pinson of Monmouth, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Shalayne Ragar of Troy, Shannon Bishop of Hannibal, Steve Drebenstedt and Lori Byers, both of Philadelphia.
The family wishes to include as survivors his daughter-in-law, Jean Bishop; his son-in-law, George Drebenstedt; his brother-in-law, Russell Pinson; and two great-grandchildren, Rylan Ragar of Troy and Trevor Drebenstedt of Philadelphia.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Leta Meyer.
Mr. Bishop was a Lewis County grain and cattle farmer.
He attended Steffenville Christian Church.
