Melvin Robinson

Aug. 30, 1918 - Nov. 23, 2001

CENTER - Melvin E. Robinson, 83, of Center, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Twain Haven Nursing Home in Perry.

Burial was Saturday at Center Cemetery.

Bienhoff Funeral Home in Center was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robinson was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Ralls County to Thomas E. and Bessie A. Winders Robinson.

Survivors include one son, Calvin Robinson of Hannibal; one daughter, Mildred Helwig of Bluffs, Ill.; three sisters, Dorothy Quinn Jackson of Center, Delila Hamill of Perry and Susie Chirnside of Paris; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Eugene Robinson; one brother, Gordon Lee Robinson; and his half-sister, Eula Johnson.

Mr. Robinson was a lifetime area resident and a carpenter. He enjoyed woodworking.

Mr. Robinson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, who had served from March 1944 until January 1946, attaining the rank of private.

Memorials may be made to the Center Cemetery Association.

Arthur D. Schmidt

Bowling Green
Feb. 12, 1948 - Dec. 12, 2001

BOWLING GREEN - Arthur Dale Schmidt, 53, of Bowling Green, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in Bowling Green.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Kirks Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green. The Rev. John Brumagin will officiate. Burial will be at Bowling Green Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Schmidt was born Feb. 12, 1948, in Anadarko, Okla., to Fred P. and Lephine Sebrant Schmidt.

He was married to Virginia Niemeyer on Nov. 4, 1972. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Deanna Schmidt of St. Louis and Julle Schmidt of Bowling Green; three brothers, Marvin Schmidt and Roy Schmidt, both of Ulysses, Kan., and Clayton Schmidt of Chickasha, Okla.; and three sisters, Elsie Unruh of Greensburg, Kan., Ruby Unruh of Copeland, Kan., and Jeanie Koehn of Farmington, Ky.

Mr. Schmidt worked as a self-employed auto engine mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war.

Memorials may be made to his daughters' education fund, in care of Rev. John Brumagin.

Guy W. Givan

Hannibal
Nov. 6, 1916 - Dec. 14, 2001

HANNIBAL - Guy W. Givan, 85, of Hannibal, died at 2:34 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Mr. David Dexheimer will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Mr. Givan was born Nov. 6, 1916, in Hannibal to Nova W. and Gladys Summy Givan.

He was married to Opal Bennett on Sept. 27, 1941, in St. Charles. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Ron Givan of New London; two daughters, Sandra L. Capp of St. Charles and Maurine Markins of the state of California; one brother, Charles Givan of Hannibal; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nova Givan Jr., and one in infancy.

Mr. Givan was a retired mechanic of Murphy Motor Co. in Hannibal. He was formerly an operating engineer of Local 513. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1542, Legion of the Moose, Travelers Protection Association and the Westside Christian Church.

Pallbearers will be Richard Ellison, Ed Givan, Travis Givan, Donnie Tallman, Frank Waelder and Danny Goodwin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lori Cotta, Dawn Bell Pugh and Dick Murphy.

Tom Dulaney

Shelbina
May 20, 1932 - Dec. 14, 2001

SHELBINA - Tom Dulaney, 69, of Shelbina, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Samaritan Hospital in Macon.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbina. The Rev. Virgil Clow will officiate. Burial, with graveside military rites by Shelbina American Legion Post No. 376, will be at the Shelbina Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina.

Mr. Dulaney was born May 20, 1932, in Greeneville, Tenn., to Clarence E. and Minnie Harrison Dulaney.

He was married to Dorothy Jean Carothers in Dekalb, Ill. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Rick L. Dulaney of Shelbina and Thomas E. Dulaney of Bentonville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Herbert, Bobby and Cecil Dulaney; and three sisters, Deane Bolt, Sue Kenney and Reba Wood.

He was preceded in death by one son, Delbert H. Dulaney.

Mr. Dulaney was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shelbina. He was a graduate of Greeneville High School and was self-employed at Carothers Office Equipment until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Martha E. Knox

Wright City
March 17, 1921 - Dec. 14, 2001

TROY - Martha E. Knox, 80, of Wright City, died at 12:22 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Crossroads Regional Hospital in Wentzville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. The Rev. Homer Stepanek will officiate. Burial will be at Troy City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Knox was born March 17, 1921, in Troy to Guy and Lillie Hasselfeld Stepanek.

She was married to Howard E. Knox on Dec. 14, 1940, in Moscow Mills. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1995.

Survivors include one nephew, Marvin Schubert and his wife, Rosalie of Wright City, one great-nephew; two great-nieces; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Stepanek.

Mrs. Knox was a homemaker. She had been a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Troy. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and embroidery.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen United Methodist Church building fund, in care of the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Donald Huber, Dwayne Jose, Michael Schubert, Fred Shelharvey, Leroy Stepanek and William Ulery.

Johnny R. Farmer

PALMYRA - Johnny R. Farmer, 59, of rural Palmyra died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 following a truck related accident on his farm north of Ely.

Funeral services are pending at the Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City.

Pauline Edmonston

Clarence
Aug. 11, 1918 - Dec. 13, 2001

CLARENCE - Pauline Edmonston, 83, of Clarence, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Chapel in Clarence. The Rev. Beryl Cragg and Donna Barton will officiate. Burial will be at the West Lawn Addition in the Shelbina Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Edmonston was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Shelbina to Edgar Ray and Lora Mae Powell Dye.

She was married to George Edmonston on Jan. 6, 1940, in Shelbyville. He preceded her in death June 11, 1988.

Survivors include one daughter, June Ann Birri of San Simeon, Calif.

The family wishes to include as survivors, two nephews, Danny and Mark Renner of Salisbury; one great-niece, Angela Parker of Salisbury; two great-nephews, Michael and Jeremy Renner of Brunswick; and one great-great-niece, Chloe Parker of Salisbury; and that she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, David Birri.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Boling and Laverne Renner.

Mrs. Edmonston was a member of Lentner Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.
