Melvin L. Larenson

Hannibal
Oct. 24, 1934 - Feb. 5, 2003

HANNIBAL - Melvin L. Larenson, 68, of Hannibal, died at 9:04 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Larenson was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Palmyra to Emmett and Elmeta Meyer Larenson.

He was married to Pat Elder on Feb. 4, 1956. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Catherine (Cate) Larenson of Liberty, Ill.; one special daughter, Nellie Worrell of New London; his mother of Hannibal; two brothers, Gerald Larenson and wife, Joy, of Hawk Point; and the Rev. Dewayne Larenson and wife, Penny, of Philadelphia; two sisters, Rosemary Pilsing and husband, Harvey, of St. Charles and Joyce Mester and husband, David, of Quincy, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Larenson; his father; and one niece, Regina Mester.

Mr. Larenson retired after 34 years from the Board of Public Works, working as a pipefitter for the water department. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed attending flea markets and auctions, especially the Rutledge flea market. He was a Baptist by faith.

Memorials may be made to the Hannibal Nutrition Center.

Pallbearers will be David Mester, Lyle Cox, Bill Osbourne, Tim Wright, Dick Crane and Andy Sherman.

Lily L. Spratt

Hannibal
April 12, 1914 - Feb. 5, 2003

HANNIBAL - Lily L. Spratt, 88, of Hannibal, died at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Paul Bond will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmrya.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spratt was born April 12, 1914, in Taylor to Oliver and Bessie Hoke Davis.

She was married to Earl Spratt on April 15, 1930. He preceded her in death Aug. 7, 1977.

Survivors include three sons, C.W. (Jack) Spratt and wife, Dorothy, of Quincy, Ill., Donald L. Spratt and wife, Opal, of Raymore and O. Charles Spratt and wife, Judy, of Hannibal; four daughters, Bessie C. Gibson and husband, James, of Quincy, Barbara R. Dodd and Sandra J. Morley and husband, Lyle, all of Hannibal, and Marsha K. McCullough and husband, Joseph, of Decatur, Texas ; two brothers, Donald Davis and wife, Nancy, of Durham, and LeRoy Davis and wife, Marian, all of Quincy; three sisters, Violet Foltz and husband, John, of Springfield, Mo., and Wanda Bradfield and Martha Burgtorf, both of Quincy; one sister-in-law, Rita Davis of Quincy; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, L. Darlene Naderhoff, Helen C. Spratt; one son, LaVern Spratt; two sisters, Neva Bradfield and Nedro Davis; three brothers, Elmo Davis, Pearl Davis and Kenneth Davis; one grandson, Kevin Spratt; and two sons-in-law, Gwinn Naderhoff and Herman Dodd.

Mrs. Spratt retired after 20 years as director of the Mark Twain Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Spratt, Kent Spratt, James Spratt, Herman Dodd Jr., Brad Gibson and Jeff Foster.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Kimberly Dawn Hunsel

Silex
May 5, 1972 - Feb. 5, 2003

TROY - Kimberly Dawn Hunsel, 30, of Silex, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at her home.

A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Sacred Heart Church. Father Thomas Wissler will officiate. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. today at Kemper-Marsh-Millard Funeral Home-Troy Chapel.

Mrs. Hunsel was born May 5, 1972, in Branson to Debra J. Reynolds Johnson.

She was married to John Hunsel on July 9, 1993, in Troy. He survives.

Other survivors include her mother of Springfield; three daughters, Ashton, Kara and Megan Hunsel, all of Silex; one sister, Shannon Shaffer of Springfield; maternal grandparents, R.J. and Lela Reynolds of Springfield; three brothers-in-law, Tom Hunsel of St. Peters and Dan Hunsel and Brian Hunsel, both of Troy; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Barb Hunsel of Troy; three sisters-in-law, Debbie Moore of St. Peters, Donna Orf of Troy and Karen Hunsel of Silex; three nieces; four nephews; and many friends.

Willa Mae Johnston

Paris
March 30, 1918 - Feb. 5, 2003

PARIS - Willa Mae Johnston, 84, of Paris, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Agnew Funeral Home in Paris. Howard Hartung will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnston was born March 30, 1918, in Shelbina to Hurley and Grace Marie Reynolds Studer.

She was married to Tommy Johnston in 1946, in Paris. He preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1984.

Survivors include two brothers, Zoris Studer of Paris and Jerry Studer; two sisters, Marguerite Thomas of Raytown and Norita Stone of Paris; and several nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Johnston was a homemaker and a member of the Paris Christian Church.

Vernon Ray (Skeet) Palmer

Hannibal
Dec. 31, 1917 - May 9, 2003

HANNIBAL - Vernon Ray (Skeet) Palmer, 85, of Hannibal, died at 1:10 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. Steve Barker and Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial, with graveside military rites by Emmette J. Shields Post 55 of the American Legion, will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at the funeral home.

Mr. Palmer was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Hannibal to George W. and Emma V. Gardner Palmer.

He was married to Almeda Ruth Sanders on Nov. 30, 1947, in Hannibal. She preceded him in death Jan. 21, 1998.

Survivors include three sisters, Dora Schenck and Ruby Palmer, both of Hannibal, and Elfa Wagner of Palmyra; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Wanda Mitchell of Hannibal.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Beaulh Dye; and four brothers, Earl, Hershel, Melvis and Perley Palmer.

Mr. Palmer retired from the International Shoe Company Rubber Plant and farmed for several years. He was an active member of the First Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Emmette J. Shields Post 55 of the American Legion. He was an outdoor person and loved to fish and play baseball.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.

Pallbearers will be Ray Schenck, George Schenck, Richard Wagner, Larry Wagner, George Palmer and William Dean.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Whitley, Rosie and Don Stolberg, Don Crane, Ernie Sanders and Sandy Tilton.

Audie Ewell Kelly

Old Monroe
Aug. 22, 1921 - May 8, 2003

WINFIELD - Audie Ewell Kelly, 81, of Old Monroe, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Lincoln County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. The Rev. Mike Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at St. Charles Memorial Gardens in St. Charles.

Mrs. Kelly was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Harrisburg, Ill., to John and Pearl Ewell.

She was married to Denzal F. Kelly on July 1, 1944, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death April 1, 1986.

Survivors include one son, Karl Kelly of Winfield; one daughter, Dianne Kelly Mazzacavallo of Calverton Park; four grandchildren, Jill Mazzacavallo of Atlanta, Ga., Kate Mazzacavallo of Calverton Park and Jamie Kelly and Scott Kelly, both of Winfield.; two sisters, Orpha Marie Dailey of Meadowbrooke, Ill., and Mae Renfrow of Jerseyville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Amberson Ewell; and one sister, Iclee Duncan.
