PERRY - Lena Mae Darnall, 75, of Perry, died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at Westview Nursing Home in Center.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry. Kenny Sharp will officiate. Burial will be at Lick Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Darnall was born March 11, 1928, in Hannibal to George and Myrtle Marshall Goodhart.
She was married to Walter Trower on Nov. 28, 1946, in Gazette. He preceded her in death Jan. 30, 1976. She then married Omer Darnall on July 3, 1977, in Perry. He preceded her in death March 7, 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis Trower and Richard Trower; two daughters, Wanda Allen and Sherri Coose; one brother, Leland Wagoner; one half-brother, Eddie Graves; four sisters, Daisy Black and Carol Macarooni, Peggy Sue Cucan and Martha Nieal; three half-sisters, Lola Long, Carol McDonald and Betty Sinca; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
William O. (Tony) Yates
Lakeland, Fla.
July 18, 1940 - May 6, 2003
LAKELAND, Fla. - William O. (Tony) Yates, 62, of Lakeland, Fla., died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Broward County, Fla., as the result of an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at Heath Funeral Chapel in Lakeland.
Mr. Yates was born July 18, 1940, in Hannibal to Arleen and Orland Yates.
He was married to Jane Morawitz. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kelly Peeples of Lakeland and Robin Feagle of Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Jeffrey O. Yates of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Jason W. Yates of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Charles E. Yates of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Glenn Bowman of Hannibal and Janet French of Fon du lac, Wis.; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Yates had moved to Lakeland from Seattle, Wash., six years ago. He was owner of Petrotech S.E. Inc. of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Ocoee, Fla.
Before he moved from Hannibal, he and his late father operated Yates & Hagan clothing store until the 1973 flood. He then owned a clothing store in Quincy, Ill., for about three years before moving to Florida and later Seattle, from which he returned to Florida.
Mr. Yates was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of McCooey High School in Hannibal. He had attended Notre Dame University and graduated from Quincy College in Quincy, Ill. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

TROY - Lilburn "Shorty" Minor, 77, of Troy, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. Sammy Lorton officiating. Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery in Moscow Mills.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Minor was born June 2, 1925, in Kendall, to Henry and Anna (Smith) Minor.
He married Norma Johnson on March 24, 1990. She survives in Troy.
Other survivors include two sons: Darrell Groeper of Truxton and Mike Minor of St. Louis; five daughters: Jennifer Green of Malta Bend, Betty Lou Daniels of Hannibal, Ann Irvin of Troy, Jean Samons of Troy and Barbara Groeper of Truxton; his stepfather, Virgil Starr of Hannibal; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister: Betty Stables.
Mr. White had worked as a truck driver with I.C.X. Truck Lines in Quincy, Ill., and had previously owned the Angus Room Restaurant in Wentzville.
Michael L. Bechtold
Michael L. Bechtold, 53, of Hannibal, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.
May B. Moss-Ligon

ELSBERRY - May B. Moss-Ligon, 96, of Elsberry, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. The Rev. Richard Pillers will officiate. Burial will be at the Elsberry City Cemetery.
Mrs. Ligon was born Aug. 17, 1906, in Hannibal to James Monroe and Beulah Tolbert Burbridge.
She was married to Clardy George Moss on Nov. 1, 1930, in Louisiana. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1984. She was married to Charles R. Ligon on Oct. 19, 1985. He preceded her in death Nov. 17, 1989.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond Kenneth Burbridge, James Burbridge and Marvin Lee Burbridge; six sisters, Margaret Burbridge, LaVeta Veal, Eva Autrey, Maude Perkins, Eta Canady and Irene Ray.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - James L. Bates, 57, of Muscatine, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the George Wittich Funeral Home in Muscatine.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Bates was born Feb. 3, 1946, in Hannibal to Fred Sr. and Joyce Marsh Bates.
He was married to Rita Fankhouser on Dec. 3, 1965, in Letts, Iowa. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, James Bates of Bettendorf, Iowa; one daughter, Tammy Bates Snyder of Bettendorf; five grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Dolly) Smith of Hannibal; and two brothers, James (Fuzz) Bates of Philadelphia, Mo., and Tommy Lee Bates of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Larry Ray Bates.
Mr. Bates owned Bates Sanitation Service and was a school bus driver for Muscatine School District.
Memorials may be made to the National Cancer Society or Muscatine Hospices in Muscatine.
Jesse H. (Jake) Clifton

HANNIBAL - Jesse H. (Jake) Clifton, 88, of Hannibal, died at 12:06 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal. Dave Dexheimer will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.
Mr. Clifton was born July 25, 1914, in Hannibal to Darchy and Bessie Reid Clifton.
He was married to El Louise Helen Bauer on May 29, 1938, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Patricia Nevitt of Decatur, Ill.; two sons, Larry Clifton of Granger, Ind., and Chuck Clifton of Hannibal; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Virginia Clifton Cole.
Mr. Clifton was retired clerk after 30 years with the Norfolk and Western Railroad, formerly the Wabash Railroad. He served as a union representative for the Wabash Railroad. He was a lifetime member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as church record keeper, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Harvesters Sunday School Class. He also served as past treasurer of Bethel Baptist Association.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Calvary Baptist Church or Hannibal Nutrition Center.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Clifton's grandchildren, Lee Clifton, Heath Clifton, Sean Nevitt, Patrick Nevitt, Russell Clifton, Eric Nevitt and Tandy Clifton.
