Rhear

COFFEEVILLE — Funeral services for Larry Gene Rhear, 58, of Coffeeville will be today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home chapel, Batesville. He died of heart failure June 12, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park, Batesville.

Mr. Rhear was a barge foreman. He was born Feb. 9, 1945, in Greenwood, Miss., to Walter and Mary Goodwin Rhear.

Survivors include his fiancι, Betty Walters of Coffeeville; three daughters, Stephanie Anthony of Houston, Texas, Vanessa Perkins of Leland and Melissa Rhear of Houma, La.; his father, Walter Rhear of Calhoun, Ga.; a sister, Pam Baker of Alpharetta, Ga.; and one grandson, Maxwell Perkins.

The Rev. Kenneth Corley will officiate.

Burden

GRENADA -- Funeral services for Verneva "Bay" Lawson Burden, 67, of Grenada and formerly of Greenville will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bell Flower MB Church, Grenada. She died Aug. 31, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Grenada, under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Grenada.

She was retired from the Federal Compress of Grenada after her health failed. She was a member of Victory Apostolic No. 3 Church in Grenada, where she was a faithful Christian. She enjoyed fishing.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William Lawson Jr. and Edward L. Lawson.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Burden of Grenada; eight daughters, Katherine Green of Pompano Beach, Fla., Nellie Jennings and Thelma (Willie) Reed, both of Greenville, Bobbie (Anthony) Bradshaw of Hanley Hills, Mo., Mary A. Harris, Latonya (Roosevelt) Davis and Chasity Burden, all of Grenada, and Brenda (Eric) Colston of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; five brothers and sisters, John Wesly Dukes, Thomas Ray Gibson, Juanita Dukes and Dorothy Gibson, all of Grenada, and Robert Lee Dukes of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepsisters, Linda Brown and Brenda Brown, both of Greenville; one special friend, William Lawson Sr. of Greenville; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one aunt, Jeanie Miller of Grenada; one uncle, Booker T. Dukes of Baton Rouge; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home chapel, Grenada.

The Rev. Leoda Topps will officiate.

Dalton

LAKE VILLAGE, Ark. -- Funeral services for Eletha Despain Dalton, 85, of Lake Village will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Jennie Baptist Church, Jennie. She died Sept. 4, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Jennie Cemetery under the direction of Griffin-Steele Funeral Home, Lake Village.

She was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Dierks, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.A. "Bunk" Dalton; her mother, Mary Lou Setty Despain of Dierks, Ark.; her father, Marshall Despain of West Helena, Ark.; two sisters, Tressie Vaughn of Hillhouse, Mo., and Flois Bullard of Helena, Ark.; and one brother, Clois Despain of Eagle Point, Ore.

Mrs. Dalton is survived by one son, Joe Dodson Dalton of Portland, Ark.; one daughter, Althea Wright of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter, Donna Thea Hebrit; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Hebrit; five sisters, Eula Dean Jaffkee of Wildomar, Calif., Helen Brooks of Eudora, Ark., Mary Brooks of Greenville, Miss., Maggie Montgomery of Mountain Home, Ark., and Mollie Sue Phillips of Bulls Gap, Tenn.; and one brother, Paul Despain of Mountain Home, Ark.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Steele Funeral Home, Lake Village.

Kimbrough

MOORHEAD -- Funeral services for Eddie Kimbrough, 86, of Moorhead will be today at 11 a.m. at Travelers Rest MB Church, Moorhead. He died Aug. 30, 2001, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola. Burial will be in Travelers Rest MB Church Cemetery under the direction of Dillon Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include one nephew, Lonnie Kimbrough of Chicago; and two nieces, Sudee Kimbrough of Chicago and Lula Dawson of Moorhead.

The Rev. White will officiate.

Norman

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for William Emanuel Norman, 60, of O'Brien, Fla., and formerly of Greenville are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Sept. 2, 2001, in O'Brien.

Smith

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Bobby Joe Smith, 4, of Greenville are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Sept. 2, 2001, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson.

Watson

CLEVELAND -- Funeral arrangements for Latonya Watson, 26, of Cleveland are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died Aug. 31, 2001, at Crittendon Memorial Hospital, West Memphis, Ark., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Brock

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Emmett Brock, 78, of Greenville are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. He died June 3, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

Pang

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Edward Pang, 90, of Greenville will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church, Greenville. He died of heart failure May 25, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in the Chinese Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Pang was a native of Toyshan Province, China. He was a longtime Greenville grocery merchant, and was born Nov. 11,1911. He came to the United States in 1922 at the age of 11. He lived in Frankfort, Ind., where he went to school and worked in his father's laundry and owned a restaurant for a time. In his school years, he played basketball and tennis and was also a cheerleader. As a young man he went to Hong Kong on a visit, and met his future wife, Mary Lee, at a party. They were married in Hong Kong in 1934. The couple returned to the United States in 1935 and entered the restaurant business in Frankfort, Ind. In 1940, Ed Pang brought his family to Greenville, and opened Pang's Grocery on Union Street. Later he built a home and grocery store at 901 S. Delesseps St., where he operated Pang's Grocery for 40 years. He retired in the early 1980s.

Mr. Pang was very active in the Chinese Mission of the First Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent of the Chinese Mission for 31 years. He was also director of the Chinese Cemetery for 39 years. His civic duties included serving on the board of directors of the American Red Cross and working with the United Way.

In his years in Greenville, he was very active in assisting members of the Chinese community as an interpreter. Throughout his life, he helped local Chinese with their citizenship papers, legal documents, business problems and has appeared with Chinese of the community at law offices and the courts.

As a devoted, dedicated Christian, he was called upon as a Christian counselor among the Chinese. He also shared his Christian testimony at local churches. At one of the annual meetings of the State Baptist Convention, Mr. Pang was asked to pray for Worldwide Christian Mission Efforts, which he did, praying in his native language of Cantonese.

He headed up annual Thanksgiving and building fund offering drives each year among local Chinese. He presented these gifts each year to the First Baptist Church from the Chinese Mission, in appreciation of their watchcare and support.

He and his wife, Mary, were married for 68 years. They had five children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Survivors are as follows: two daughters, Marolyn P. Tonymon (Oscar) of Dallas and Carolyn P. Oyama (Terrell) of DelMar, Calif.; three sons, David A. Pang (Elisa) of Memphis, Edward W. Pang of Houston and Benjamin L. Pang (Cynthia) of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren, Valarie Wing, Tiffanie Pang, Coryeile Oyama, Lauren Pang and Nicole Oyama; and four great-grandchildren, Alison Wing, Aja Wing, Ashley Wing and Anna Wing.

Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

Washington

MEMPHIS — Funeral arrangements for David Washington, 30, of Memphis are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. He died June 4, 2002, at University of Tennessee-Bowld Hospital in Memphis.

Winn

SHELBY — Funeral arrangements for Eva Winn, 94, of Shelby are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died June 3, 2002, at Shelby Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Shelby.

Glenn

CLEVELAND — Funeral arrangements for Essie Glenn, 80, of Cleveland are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died July 23, 2002, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland.

Hicks

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Marilyn Taggart Hicks, 66, of Greenville will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Greenville. She died July 22, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was born in Lake Village, Ark., Dec. 13, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Eugenia C. "Jinks" Moore, and was preceded in death by her first husband, William S. Taggart Jr. of Greenville.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Greenville, and was a longtime Sunday school teacher, most recently serving as one of the teachers of the Billy Ireland Class. She was a teacher in the WMU Noon Bible Study at First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Greenville Community Bible Study and served as a sponsor and volunteer for the Greenville-Leland Emmaus Community. She was a member of the Alice Bell Garden Club of Greenville. She was a den leader of Cub Scouts for many years. She was the office manager for Greenville Golf & Country Club for over 30 years. She attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus.

Marilyn Hicks was a person who loved the Lord and her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and traveling. She brought light and laughter into the lives of everyone she met. "She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also; and he praises her. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31.16-31.

Survivors include her husband, John D. Hicks; two brothers, Robert F. Moore of Tallahassee, Fla., and Herman Carlton Moore of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter Dale Montgomery of Greenville; sons Steve Taggart of Dallas, Texas, and Bob Taggart of Richardson, Texas; a stepson, Steve Hicks of Germantown, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Julia Hicks Wiman of Owensboro, Ky.; grandchildren Angie Hazzard and husband, Shelby, Jennifer Montgomery and Jamie Montgomery, all of Greenville, Mary Paige and Lee Cossar Taggart of Richardson, Texas, Zoe Grace Taggart of Dallas, Texas, Drew, John Thomas and Will Hicks of Germantown, Tenn., and Lucas and Whit Wiman of Owensboro, Ky.; daughters-in-law Susan Taggart, Stacey Taggart and Sherrie Hicks; sons-in-law Jimmy Montgomery and Chet Wiman; sisters-in-law Vivian Moore and Marjorie Moore; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Jay Richardson will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Scott Phillips, James Holloway, Ricky Lewis, Joel Henderson and Guy Freeman, all of Greenville, and Travis Ferguson Jr. of Batesville.

Manor

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Marie Manor, 68, of Greenville, a homemaker, will be today at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. She died of heart failure July 20, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Vickland Cemetery, Delta City.

Mrs. Manor was born Dec. 6, 1933, at Ethel, Miss., to the late Murray and Eula Jacobs. She was raised at Ethel, where she attended school and graduated from Ethel High School. She and her husband, Bill, made their home in Greenville in 1969, where she has been a resident since. She was a member of Riverport Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Larry Manor, who died in 1995, and Michael Lynn Manor, who died in 1954.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Manor of Greenville; one daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Darrell Manning of Greenville; one sister, Georgia Lee Ingram of Purvis, Miss.; two brothers, Harry Jacobs of Purvis, Miss., and Alton Martis Jacobs of Clinton, Miss.; four grandchildren, Christopher Manor, Amanda Manning, Holley Manning and Chastity Hahs; two great-grandchildren, Anne Noel Hahs and Christina Hahs; and one daughter-in-law, Cyndia Manor.

The Rev. Jack Manor Jr. and the Rev. David Lee will officiate.
