Skinner

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Alinden Marion Skinner, 79, of Greenville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. He died July 18, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville.

Mr. Skinner was born April 8, 1923, to Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Pauline (Branch) Skinner of Vicksburg, Miss. While growing up in Vicksburg, he attended both public and private schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a World War II veteran. He resided in Detroit, Mich., for many years, where he worked for the Cadillac Asphalt Co. After retirement in 1988, he returned to Greenville.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Willie E. Skinner of Greenville; five daughters, Esther (Cleo) Dorsey of St. Louis, Mo., Addie L. Watson of San Francisco, and Beatrice (Stanley) Johnson, Annie (Marvin) Taylor and Bernice Atterberry, all of Detroit; two sons, Richard (Lenore) Summersett of Detroit and Kenneth (Silke) Skinner of Bettenburg, Germany; one sister, Velma Davis of Vicksburg; one sister-in-law, Otha Skinner of Vicksburg; one aunt-in-law, Johnnie Mitchell of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

The Rev. J.E. Warren will officiate.

Williams

SCOTT — Funeral services for George E. Williams, 65, of Decatur, Ga., and formerly of Scott will be today at 11 a.m. at Seven Star MB Church, Scott. He died July 18, 2002, in Decatur. Burial will Thursday at 10 a.m. in Natchez National Cemetery, Natchez, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Ronald Woodruff will officiate.

Durham

JACKSON -- Funeral services for John Robert "Bud" Durham, 68, a retired Tennessee Gas employee of Jackson will be today at 11 a.m. at Greenville City Cemetery, after which burial will follow under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville. The Rev. Johnny Pulley will officiate. Mr. Durham died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Hospice Care Center, Ridgeland, Miss. Visitation will be today from 10 to 11 a.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home.

Mr. Durham started his employment in Greenville with Tennessee Gas as a young man, and was later transferred to Houston, Texas, where he was employed 27 years with a company known in Texas as Tenneco. After retirement from that company, he worked with Enterprise Products for 16 years until health required his retirement. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and a Mason. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, Miss., and a Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gloria Oltremari Durham of Jackson, Miss.; his mother, Mrs. Bessie Montgomery Durham of Ridgeland, Miss.; and one sister, Dot Smith, of Jackson, Miss.

Page

BELZONI -- Funeral services for Joshua Mitchell Page, 18, a student, of Belzoni will be today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Belzoni. He died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Humphreys County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Burial will follow in Belzoni City Cemetery, under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni. Visitation was Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home.

Survivors include his grandmother and step-grandfather, Lula and Bob Cockrum of Mountain Home, Ark.; his grandfather, Bobby Page of Greenwood Springs, Miss.; his great-grandmother, Gussie Mae Page of Morgan City, Miss.; his stepfather and mother, Jamal and Dawn Page Awadd of Tupelo, Miss.; his father, Bryan Jones of Belzoni, Miss.; two sisters, Carley Jane Jones of Belzoni, Miss., and Hannah Lovely Awadd of Tupelo, Miss.; and one brother Adnan Jamal Awadd of Tupelo, Miss.

Abney

RULEVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Dorothy Abney, 65, of Ruleville are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville. She died Dec. 9, 2002, at North Sunflower County Hospital, Ruleville.

Burton

MOUND BAYOU — Funeral services for Esther Burton, 96 of Mound Bayou will be today at noon at Bethel AME Church, Mound Bayou. She died Dec. 6, 2002 at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland. Burial will be in St. Gabriel Cemetery, Mound Bayou, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Survivors include one daughter, Joan Burton of Mound Bayou; one son, Dr. Manley Burton of White Plains, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Richard Burton of Georgia, Erika Burton and Kristene Burton, both of New York, and Latitia Burton and Derrick Burton both of Mound Bayou; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Burton and Joshua Burton, both of Atlanta, and Mesa Burton of New York.

The Rev. Walter G. Wilson will officiate.

The body will lie in state at the church today from 11 a.m. to noon.

Fountain

INDIANOLA — Funeral arrangements for Ceola Fountain, 98, of Indianola are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. She died Dec. 9, 2002, in Inverness.

Gamble

LELAND — Funeral arrangements for Louise Gamble, 78, of Leland are pending at Frye Funeral Home, Leland. She died Dec. 9, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Spratlin

VARDAMAN — Funeral services for William Alfred Spratlin, 64, of Vardaman, a retired carpenter, will be today at 10 a.m. at Pryor Funeral Home, Calhoun City. He died of heart failure Dec. 7, 2002, at Calhoun Health Services. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery, Vardaman.

Mr. Spratlin was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church, and a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Spratlin and Edna Earline Sullivan Spratlin; and a brother, Johnny Clayton Spratlin.

Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Williams of Cedar Hill, Tenn.; two sons, Ricky F. Spratlin of Greenville and Toney Spratlin of Cedar Hill, Tenn.; two brothers, Bobbie Spratlin and Earl Spratlin, both of Vardaman; and five grandchildren.

Dr. Clarence Cooper Jr. will officiate.

Walcott

GREENVILLE — A memorial service for Annis Lick Walcott, 76, of Greenville will be today at 4 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Ft. Smith, Ark. She died Dec. 7, 2002, in Ft. Smith after a recent illness. Her burial service will be at St. James' Episcopal Church, Greenville, on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

Annis Lick Walcott was born in Ft. Smith, Ark., in 1926, on the hottest day of that year, Aug. 24, at the old St. Edwards Hospital. Her family lived "out in the country" on 41st and North streets. Like her mother, daughter, three sisters-in-law, and a great-niece, she attended Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va., where she was a member of Chi Omega. She graduated in 1947 with a major in English and a minor in Greek. She met her future husband, James Dexter Walcott, a Mississippi Delta man, at Randolph Macon in 1945. They married in 1952. After briefly residing in Pine Bluff, Ark., they raised their family in Greenville, Miss. Annis and James were a year shy of their 50th wedding anniversary when he passed on in 2001. She was the first female vestry member at St. James' Episcopal Church in Greenville, where they were members for over 45 years. In 1974, she went to work in the administration department of the Delta Mental Health Center, where she served for over 20 years until her retirement.

Wherever she went, she made and kept friends all of her life. She helped keep all of our families together, and she was a patient servant of the Lord.

Her baptism, confirmation and marriage were all celebrated at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ft. Smith, Ark.

She is survived by her sister, Sally Lick Vick of Ft. Smith, Ark.; her cousin, S.W. "Bud" Jackson Jr. (Paula) of Ft. Smith; her daughter, Annis Walcott Cox (Bill) of Columbus, Miss.; two sons, James Dexter Walcott Jr. (Jane) of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Carswell McClellan "Mac" Walcott (Gina) of Fairhope, Ala.; and eight grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Reynolds Cancer Support House in Ft. Smith, or the William Alexander Percy Memorial Library in Greenville.

White

LELAND — Funeral arrangements for Cassandra White, 32, of Killeen, Texas, are pending at Frye Funeral Home, Leland. She died Dec. 6, 2002, at Parkland Hospital, Dallas.

White

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Larry Paul White, 44, of Memphis and formerly of Greenville, a truck driver, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. He died Dec. 7, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Memphis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

Mr. White was born March 24, 1958, in Greenville to Thomas and Martha White. He was raised in Greenville where he attended Greenville public schools. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a truck driver and was employed with Mid-South Transport Inc. in Memphis at the time of his death. He had been a resident of the Memphis area for the past 20 years.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Newsom of Greenville; his father, Thomas White of West Memphis, Ark.; one sister, Sheilla (Mack) Guzman of Leesville, La.; three brothers, Thomas "Buddy" (Judy) White of West Memphis, Ark., Jerry (Ruthie) Newsom of Chicago and Robert White of Winfield, La.; a companion, Dolly Bugg of Memphis; and three nieces, Heaven Newsom, Kim Guzman and Monique Guzman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105-1942.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Neal Cordell will officiate.

Baker

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Billy Wayne Baker, 45, a riverboat worker, of Greenville will be today at 10 a.m. at United Pentecostal Church, Greenville. Burial will follow at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Greenville. He died of heart failure Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Baker was born Jan. 26, 1958, in Leland, Miss., to John R. and Vera Baker. He has been a lifelong resident of Greenville where he attended Greenville Public Schools. He worked on the riverboat. He was a member of United Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his father, John R. Baker, in 1997, and his grandparents, Brady Baker and Berniece Baker and Molly Hasha.

Survivors include his mother, Vera Baker of Greenville, Miss.; one daughter, Hope Baker of Florence, Miss.; one brother, Ricky Baker of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

The Rev. Wayne Ellard will officiate.

Fried

INDIANOLA -- Graveside services for Rose Gold Fried, 82, a retired registered nurse, of Indianola will be today at 1 p.m. at Ahavath Rayim Cemetery, Greenwood, under the direction of Card Funeral Home, Indianola. She died Feb. 8, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Fried received her nursing degree from Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. She retired from South Sunflower County Hospital after 25 years. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. Her husband of 57 years, Theo Fried, preceded her in death in December 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Fried Novick of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Aaron (Ina) Fried of Houston, Texas, and Stanley Fried of Indianola, Miss.; one sister, Sarah Geller of Denver, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Mori Fried of Indianola, Miss., Randy Novick of Denver, Colo., Mindy Novick Anderson of Houston, Texas, and Hilary Fried (Greg) Byrnes of Berkeley, Calif.
