Ashmore

LELAND — Funeral services for Ila Mae Williams Ashmore, 82, of Oakland and formerly of Leland, a homemaker and saleswoman, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. She died of heart failure Aug. 8, 2003, at her home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

Mrs. Ashmore was a native of Webster County, Miss., where she received her education. In 1941, she married Luther I. Ashmore, and they had been residents of Leland from 1958 until moving to Oakland in 2001. She was a homemaker and worked with Stein Mart for nine years. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Leland.

Survivors include her husband, Luther I. Ashmore of Oakland; four loving children, Juanita A. Hambright of Yazoo City, Annette A. Jarnagin and Charlotte A. Dunaway, both of Oakland, and James "Butch" Ashmore of Lake Village, Ark.; two children-in-law, loved as her own, Virgil Jarnagin of Oakland and Sharon Jarnagin Ashmore of Lake Village; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis.

Johnson

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Elmo Johnson, 65, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Aug. 7, 2003, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

Jordan

LELAND — Funeral services for Alvin Jordan, 36, of Leland were Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter MB Church, Leland. He died July 31, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial was in Bogue Memorial Cemetery, Leland, under the direction of Frye Funeral Home, Leland.

Alvin was born May 21, 1967, in Leland, Miss.

He leaves to cherish his memories his three daughters, Amber Smith of Greenville, Tangu'la Fox of Leland and Alvinyanna Jordan of Danville, Ill.; two sons, Alvin Jordan Jr. of Greenville and Alvin Jordan III of Danville, Ill.; four sisters, Rosa Bailey of Leland, and Pearlene Bailey, Louphia Bailey and Cora Halley, all of Chicago; six brothers, Malcolm Wright and Tommy Wright, both of Leland, Shedrick Wright of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Paul Halley Jr., Gene Halley and Albert Halley, all of Chicago; two special nephews, Cordarrell Bailey and Jeffrey Bailey, both of Leland; one special niece, Jessica Bailey of Leland; and a host of relatives and friends.

The Rev. Carlton Earles will officiate.

McGregor

INDIANOLA — Funeral services for Elizabeth Wood McGregor, 81, of Indianola, a retired school teacher, will be at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Indianola. She died Aug. 8, 2003, at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility, Ruleville. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Mrs. McGregor was an alumnus of Indianola High School, Sunflower Junior College and Mississippi State College for Women. She taught mathematics in the Indianola Public School System and was a longtime member of the Indianola 20th Century Club, the Explorer Bible Study and the Indianola First United Methodist Church. She was the widow of John T. McGregor Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Barry McGregor McWilliams of Indianola; a son, John T. McGregor Jr. of Wake Forest, N.C.; a sister, Mary Frances Pickett of Guelph, Ontario; a brother, Barry Wood of Indianola; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Phinisee

HOLLANDALE — Funeral arrangements for Mattie Phinisee, 89, of Hollandale are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Hollandale. She died Aug. 8, 2003, at her home.

Davis

CLEVELAND -- Funeral services for Kathren Jewel Davis, 74, a homemaker, of Cleveland were at 2 p.m. Monday at Fletcher Nowell Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died Aug. 31, 2001, at her home. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis, a widow, was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Baptist.

She leaves two daughters, Lynette Magee of Olive Branch and Tillie Rayburn of Greenwood. She also leaves a son, Tim Davis of Leland. She leaves three sisters, Mildred Forbey of Columbus, Marie Hollis of Columbus and Neomia Lawson of Ringgold, La. She also leaves four grandchildren, Christopher Lee Davis, Nicholas Brian Davis, Jarrett Magee and Rachael Kathren Barnett.

Memorials may be sent to Community Hospice of Cleveland or the National Foundation for Cancer Research, P.O. Box 96021, Washington, D.C., 20090-6021.

Govan

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Ada Bell Govan, 81 of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Sept. 2, 2001, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Brown

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Willie Douglas Brown, 86, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Dec. 8, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Burton

MOUND BAYOU -- Funeral services for Esther Burton, 96 of Mound Bayou will be Tuesday at noon at Bethel AME Church, Mound Bayou. She died Dec. 6, 2002, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland. Burial will follow in St. Gabriel Cemetery, Mound Bayou, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. The body will lie in state from 11 a.m. until time for the funeral.

Survivors include one daughter, Joan Burton of Mound Bayou; one son, Mr. Manley Burton of Mound Bayou; five grandchildren, Richard Burton of Georgia, Erika Burton and Kristene Burton both of New York, and Latitia Burton and Derrick Burton both of Mound Bayou; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Burton and Joshua Burton both of Atlanta, and Mesa Burton of New York.

The Rev. Walter G. Wilson will officiate.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Cooper

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Katie Lee Cooper, 85, a homemaker of Greenville will be today at 10 a.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home Chapel, Greenville. She died of heart failure Dec. 6, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will follow at Greenville City Cemetery under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Centerville, Tenn. She lived in Greenville, Miss., from 1938 to 2001 and lived in Dublin, Ga., for the past two and half years with her son. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Cooper, and two daughters, Annie Mae Miller and Brenda Kay Pearson.

Survivors include three sons, Coy L. (Barbara) Cooper of Dublin, Ga., Richard Earl (Sybil) Cooper of Vidor, Texas, and Gene Thomas (Sheila) Cooper of Dublin, Ga.; one sister, Bertha Campbell of Gillett of Ark.; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home.

Pieroni

LAKE VILLAGE, Ark. -- Funeral services for Virginia Ann Cingolani Pieroni, 74, a homemaker of Lake Village, Ark., will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Lake Village, Ark., with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home, Lake Village, Ark. She died of cancer Dec. 2, 2002, at St. Vincent's Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.

Mrs. Pieroni was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Lake Village, Ark., one of nine children born to Maraino and Theresa Menotti Cingolani. Six of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ned Pieroni of Lake Village; three sons, Randy (Martha) Pieroni, Richard (Geneva) Pieroni, and Christopher (Carrie) Pieroni, all of Lake Village; three daughters, Theresa (Charles) Brown of Lake Providence, La., Mary Margaret Pieroni of Lake Village, and Nancy (Jody) Cheneval of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Marie Catalani of Lake Village, Settemia King of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Katie King of Lake Providence, La.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Church. A 5:30 p.m. Rosary will be today at Bishop Funeral Home Chapel, Lake Village, Ark.

Visitation will follow the Rosary.

Father Ignatius Gomes and Father Erik Pohlmeier will officiate.

Pigg

SHARKEY COUNTY -- Funeral services for Geneva T. Pigg, 79, a homemaker of Sharkey County will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Sunflower Church, Rolling Fork. She died Dec. 6, 2002, at Lincoln Plaza Nursing Center, Austin, Ark. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Rolling Fork, under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home Inc., Rolling Fork.

Born in Slidell, La., Mrs. Pigg was a resident of Sharkey County for 70 years. For the past several years, she has made her home in Austin, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Pigg, and a daughter, Johnnie Lynn Graves.

Survivors include one son, Vernon Pigg of Quitman, Miss.; three daughters, Alice Herbert of Miami, Fla., Ann Woods of Delta City, Miss., and Jodie Tice of Austin, Ark.; two sisters, Helen Medford of Greenville, Miss., and Annie Bell Villari of Saraland, Ala.; two brothers, Thomas Tucker of Saraland, Ala., and Morris Tucker of Cintronelle, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Visitation will be at Glenwood Funeral Home, Rolling Fork, today from 5 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Sam Woods, Mike Green, Paul Pigg, Roy Green, Eric Alexander and Tracey Tice. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey, Robbie and Shawn Pigg.

Pastor Joel Hill will officiate.

Potter

WAYSIDE -- Funeral services for Thelma Keith Potter, 93, a homemaker of Wayside will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Avon United Methodist Church, Avon. She died of heart failure Dec. 8, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will follow at Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Potter was a native of Kosciusko, Miss., and moved at an early age with her parents to the Avon community, where she attended Riverside Public Schools. She married L.T. Potter in 1926, and they made their home in Avon where they were engaged in farming. Her husband preceded her in death in 1962. She was also preceded in death by two son, Emmett T. and Jack A. Potter. She was a member of Avon United Methodist Church and a member of Longwood Women's Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Ann Soke, of Wayside, Miss.; three sons, Julian F. Potter of Arcola, Miss., John W. Potter of Greenville, Miss., and Dennis K. Potter of Wayside, Miss.; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Avon United Methodist Church.

Triplett

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Pauline Triplett, 70, of Greenville are pending with Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Dec. 8, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

White

MEMPHIS -- Funeral arrangements for Larry Wayne White, 43, of Memphis, are pending with Smith Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Dec. 7, 2002, in Memphis of injuries sustained in an automobile crash.
