Pang
GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Edward Pang, 90, of Greenville will be June 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church, Greenville. He died of heart failure May 25, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in the Chinese Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mr. Pang was a native of Toyshan Province, China. He was a longtime Greenville grocery merchant, and was born Nov. 11, 1911. He came to the United States in 1922 at the age of 11. He lived in Frankfort, Ind., where he went to school and worked in his father's laundry and owned a restaurant for a time. In his school years, he played basketball and tennis and was also a cheerleader. As a young man he went to Hong Kong on a visit, and met his future wife, Mary Lee, at a party. They were married in Hong Kong in 1934. The couple returned to the United States in 1935 and entered the restaurant business in Frankfort, Ind. In 1940, Ed Pang brought his family to Greenville, and opened Pang's Grocery on Union Street. Later he built a home and grocery store at 901 S. Delesseps St., where he operated Pang's Grocery for 40 years. He retired in the early 1980s.
Mr. Pang was very active in the Chinese Mission of the First Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent of the Chinese Mission for 31 years. He was also director of the Chinese Cemetery for 39 years. His civic duties included serving on the board of directors of the American Red Cross and working with the United Way.
In his years in Greenville, he was very active in assisting members of the Chinese community as an interpreter. Throughout his life, he helped local Chinese with their citizenship papers, legal documents, business problems and has appeared with Chinese of the community at law offices and the courts.
As a devoted, dedicated Christian, he was called upon as a Christian counselor among the Chinese. H also shared his Christian testimony at local churches. At one of the annual meetings of the State Baptist Convention, Mr. Pang was asked to pray for Worldwide Christian Mission Efforts, which he did, praying in his native language of Cantonese.
He headed up annual Thanksgiving and building fund offering drives each year among local Chinese. He presented these gifts each year to the First Baptist Church from the Chinese Mission, in appreciation of their watchcare and support.
He and his wife Mary, were married for 68 years. They had five children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Survivors are as follows: two daughters, Marolyn P. Tonymon (Oscar) of Dallas and Carolyn P. Oyama (Terrell) of DelMar, Calif.; three sons, David A. Pang (Elisa) of Memphis, Edward W. Pang of Houston and Benjamin L. Pang (Cynthia) of San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren, Valarie Wing, Tiffanie Pang, Coryeile Oyama, Lauren Pang and Nicole Oyama; four great-grandchildren, Alison Wing, Aja Wing, Ashley Wing and Anna Wing.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

He died July 20, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be at Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville, under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni.
He was born in Leland, Miss., and he was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, Belzoni.
Survivors include his wife, Vanessa Fisher of Belzoni, Miss.; two daughters, Amber Fisher and Mallory Fisher, both of Belzoni; two sons, Taylor Fisher and Black Fisher, both of Belzoni; parents, Charles and Georgia Fisher of Leland, Miss.; a sister, Ann Godwin of Starkville, Miss.; a grandmother, Margaret Fisher of Shreveport, La.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, the Rev. Charles and Fay Burton of Crystal Springs, Miss.
The Revs. Kevin Griffin, Jon Doler and Richard Wiman will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni.

GUNNISON -- Funeral services for Linda Ford, 51, of Chicago and formerly of Gunnison, will be today at 11:30 a.m. at Gospel Temple Church, Rosedale. She died July 12, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery, Gunnison, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Shelby.
Her son, Robert L. "Ray" Ford died July 13, 2002, in Chicago.
Survivors include one daughter, Monique Ford of Chicago; nine brothers, Edward (Vera) Ford, Zebedee (Issabella) Ford, Aaron Ford, Emanuel (Latarya) Ford and Tannie (Glinda) Ford, all of Gunnison, Freddie Ford, Alfred Ford and Elvis (Beatrice) Ford, all of St. Louis, Mo., and Fred (Marie) Ford of Milwaukee; one sister, Olliestene (Alvin) Davenport of St. Louis, Mo.; a special companion, Levi Gipson Sr. of Chicago; one stepson, Levi Gipson Jr. of Chicago; one stepdaughter, Sanetta Gipson of Chicago; one stepgranddaughter, Brianna Gipson of Chicago; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

GUNNISON -- Funeral services for Robert L. "Ray" Ford, 32, of Chicago and formerly of Gunnison will be today at 11:30 a.m. at Gospel Temple Church, Rosedale. He died July 13, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery, Gunnison, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Shelby.
His mother, Linda Ford, preceded him in death July 12, 2002, in Chicago.
