Harvey

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Funeral services for Alice Childress Harvey, 93, of Knoxville and formerly of Greenville, Miss., will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Gentry-Griffey Funeral Home chapel, Knoxville. She died Aug. 2, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Knoxville. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville.

She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, and was the widow of William Sidney Harvey. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sydney Harvey Scharrer.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Harvey Brichetto of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren Lori Scharrer Pierce, Rob Scharrer, Angela Brichetto Lossow, Kim Brichetto Thomas and David Brichetto Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Sam Enochs.

The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. Kent Williams will officiate.

Lofton

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Florida Marshall Lofton, 77, of Greenville are pending at Frye Funeral Home, Leland. She died Aug. 5, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Bennett

DREW -- Funeral services for Dorothy Bennett, 49, of Drew will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holly Grove MB Church, Drew. She died Aug. 23, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Drew Cemetery under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville.

Survivors include four sons, Richard Bennett and Odell Bennett, both of Drew, Gary Bennett of Chicago and Tony Bennett of Gary, Ind.; two brothers, Dorsey Bennett and Albert First, both of Drew; one sister, Jessie M. Sculark of Drew; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville.

The Rev. Jesse Gresham will officiate.

Christian

CLEVELAND -- Funeral services for Isabelle "Bell" Christian, 87, of Cleveland will be Saturday at noon at United Baptist Church, Cleveland. She died Aug. 25, 2001, at Bolivar County Medical Center, Cleveland. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Cleveland, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lee Hutton of Chicago, Ethel Mae Christian Cypress of Somerville, Tenn., and Magnolia Christian Williams of Cleveland; one son, Otis "O.C." Christian of Cleveland; 49 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Senior Hunt of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. The body will lie in state on Saturday from 10 a.m. until funeral time at the church.

The Rev. Sammy Rash will officiate.

Elmore

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Robert Elmore, 37, of Indianola will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Beulah MB Church, Indianola. He died Aug. 27, 2001, at Veteran Hospital in Topeka, Kan. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include his mother, Jessie Elmore of Indianola; his wife, Jessica Elmore of Indianola; four daughters, Lakesha Elmore, Kenya Elmore, Nakehta Elmore and Jennifer Elmore, all of Indianola; five brothers, James Elmore, Alexis Elmore and Jonathan Elmore, all of Detroit, Mich., Eddie Elmore Jr. of Indianola and Ricky Spells of Cleveland; and seven sisters, Dorothy Baker of Detroit, Dina Butler, Willie Mae Johnson, Martha Elmore, Georgia Carpenter, Shirley Turner and Robbie Elmore, all of Indianola.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

The Rev. James White will officiate.

Goodman

ENCINO, Calif. -- Funeral services for Dr. Sanders A. Goodman, 86, of Encino were Aug. 21 at Eternal Light Chapel. He died Aug. 17, 2001, in Canoga Park, Calif. Burial was in Eden Memorial Park under the direction of Groman Mortuary, Mission Hills, Calif.

Dr. Goodman was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Glen Allan, Miss. He grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School and Tulane Medical School. He practiced medicine as an ophthalmologist in California.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Goodman of Encino, Calif.; one son, Stephen Goodman; one daughter, Janice Goodman of Encino, Calif.; and one brother, Sidney "Mace" Goodman of Greenville.

Rabbi Bernard Cohen officiated.

Harris

COLUMBUS -- Funeral services for Annie Harris, 83, of Columbus will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, Columbus. She died Aug. 24, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Jackson. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Columbus, under the direction of Carter's Funeral Home, Columbus.

Mrs. Harris was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Lowndes County, Miss., to Sam Taylor Sr. and Katie Taylor, both deceased.

Survivors include one son, Alfred Taylor of Columbus; three daughters, Gloria Thomas of Greenville, and Sarah Harrison and Bobbie Taylor, both of Columbus; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one goddaughter, Christine Butler Williams.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

The Rev. Bobby Woodrick will officiate.

James

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Melvin Debrowski James, 45, of Greenville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Greater St. John MB Church, Greenville. He died Aug. 23, 2001, at his home. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville.

Melvin D. James was born April 8, 1956, in Greenville, to Mrs. L.V. James and the late Willie Harps. He confessed a hope in Christ at Hinds Street MB Church in 1967 under the leadership of the late Rev. E.D. Simpson. In later years, Melvin united in Christian membership with Greater St. John MB Church under the leadership of the Rev. J.B. Woods.

Melvin attended Greenville public schools and upon graduation from Job Corps, he served in the United States Army. After being discharged from the Army, he was employed as a telephone operator in California for seven years.

On Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at the home of his mother, he made his transformation from earth to heaven. He will be forever remembered by his mother, Mrs. L.V. Martin; two daughters, Tikinia James of Memphis and LaTonia Parks of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, Tyree Waites of Anaheim, Calif.; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mercury James, Redell (Mack) Acron, Rosalind (Ben) Brown and Donyetta (Troy) Martin, all of Greenville; nine brothers, Jewell James of Milwaukee, Alvin (Kim) James of Reseda, Calif., and Harry James, Lamarcus Martin, Charles Martin, Aaron Martin, Willie (Mary) Harps Jr., Luke (Yvonne) Harps and Earnest Harps, all of Greenville; three aunts, Percy Davis of Lake Charles, La., Idella Miller of Greenville and Emma Harps of Memphis; two uncles, Benjamin Wright of Sun Valley, Calif., and Mack Miller of Beulah; a very special friend, Jacqueline Davis of Greenville; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.

The Rev. J.B. Woods and the Rev. Jerome Bailey will officiate.

Lott

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Conchetta "Connie" Fratesi Lott, 74, of Indianola, a retired restaurant owner, will be today at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Indianola. She died Aug. 29, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Mrs. Lott was the widow of Emmett "Peasoup" Lott. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas Lott, Terry Lott and Raymond Lott, all of Indianola; two sisters, Linda Hitchcock Flanagan of Leland and Liza McDonell of Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Charlie Fratesi, Lando Fratesi and Louis Fratesi, all of Leland; and four grandchildren.

Mill

SHELBY -- Funeral services for John H. Mill, 87, of Shelby will be today at 2 p.m. at New Mt. Olive MB Church, Shelby. He died Aug. 21, 2001, at his home. Burial will be in Brown Temple Cemetery, Shelby, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Shelby.

Survivors include one special friend, Virdie Lee Burns of Shelby; and a host of relatives and friends.

The Rev. Keith Toliver will officiate.

Parish

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Carl Ray Parish, 62, of Greenville, a towboat captain, will be today at 2 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. He died of heart failure Aug. 29, 2001, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery.

Mr. Parish was born in McCool, Miss., and lived in Greenville for 35 years. He was a towboat captain for 37 years. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Pearce.

Survivors include his wife, Julia N. Parish of Greenville; four daughters, Kathy Prestridge of Jackson, Vicki Hesseltine of Brandon, and Brigitte Trotter and Lisa Parish Welch, both of Greenville; one brother, Joel Parish of Weir, Miss.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robinson

SHELBY -- Funeral services for Ruth Stella Robinson, 68, of Bakersfield, Calif., and formerly of Mississippi will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Grove MB Church, Shelby. She died Aug. 25, 2001, in Bakersfield. Burial will be in Merigold Cemetery under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Shelby.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Maude Johnson; and one brother, Albert Allen.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Robinson of Bakersfield, Calif.; seven sons, Henry Robinson Jr., Jasper (Mary) Robinson, Bobby Robinson, Timothy Robinson, Roy Lee Robinson, Anthony Robinson and Elbert Robinson, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; four daughters, Rosie Robinson of Chicago, and Louis Allen, Estella (Roosevelt) Vickers and Viola Ann Robinson, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; six sisters, Elizabeth Johnson of St. Louis, Mo., Mary Martin and Leada (the Rev. James T.) Taylor, both of Greenville, Ruth E. Triplett of Leland, and Julia Robinson and Nancy Patterson, both of Chicago; two brothers, Joseph (Essie) Allen of St. Louis, Mo., and Charley (Fannie) Allen Sr. of Shelby; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Shelby.

The Rev. T.L. Martin will officiate.
