Saloane

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Mary Alice Saloane, 87, of Greenville will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill North MB Church, Greenville. She died Aug. 24, 2001, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mary Alice Saloane was born on Oct. 5, 1913, in Cleveland, Miss., to the late Mary and Jim Edmond. She confessed her belief in Christ at Rose Hill North MB Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Clarence Johnson. Then she continued her membership under the Rev. V.J. Moore, where she remained until her death. She departed this life Aug. 24, 2001, at 6:30 p.m. at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. She was married to the late Joseph Saloane Sr. in 1933, and to this union eight children were born, including the late Willie Saloane and the late Joseph Saloane, both of Los Angeles, Barbara Howard of Greenville, and the late Odester Saloane of Medina, N.Y.

Survivors include four children, Dorothy (Jimmy) Crews of Tampa, Fla., Billy "Red" Saloane and Mary Ann Smith, both of Greenville, and Johnny Saloane of Rochester, N.Y.; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Edmond of Little Rock, Ark., and Melinda Smith of Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Rev. V.J. Moore will officiate.

Wallace

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Leonia Wallace, 57, of Greenville will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hopewell MB Church, Greenville. She died Aug. 27, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include her husband, Percy Wells Sr.; four daughters, Laura Ann Walker of Panola, Lucinda (Clyde) Wallace Reagan and Marion Lisa (Walter Johnson) Wallace, both of Covington, Ky., and Dorothy Wallace of Greenville; three sons, Willie James (Teresa) Wallace and Grady (Margaret) Wallace, both of Covington, Ky., and Patrick Wallace of Greenville; two stepdaughters, Ruby (John) Johnson of Danville, Ill., and Georgia (Willie) McVay of Greenville; three stepsons, Percy (Denise) Wells Jr. of Los Angeles, and Nathaniel (Mona) Wells and George (Janne) Wells, both of Greenville; five sisters, Betty (Bobby) Newsome, Dorothy Walker, Rosella Walker, Geraldine Walker and Christine Walker, all of Panola; four brothers, Tracy L. Walker and Eula C. Walker, both of Panola, James Walker of California and Grady Walker of Chicago; one goddaughter, Christy Walker of Greenville; a loving and caring special aunt, Laura Lee McNair; 37 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

Pastor Clarence Green will officiate.

Williams

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Bessie Ann Williams, 68, of Greenville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer MB Church, Grace. She died Aug. 28, 2001, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in St. John Church Cemetery, Glen Allan, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include her husband, Turner Williams Sr. of Greenville; six daughters, Ida M. Thomas, Georgia L. Williams, JoAnn Williams and Bettye A. Williams, all of Greenville, Charlene Allen of Glen Allan and Mary L. Williams of Grace; three sons, Jimmy R. Thomas of Glen Allan, and Turner Williams Jr. and Issac F. Thomas, both of Greenville; two sisters, Pankie Willis of Glen Allan and Ledora (Albert) Price of Saginaw, Mich.; two brothers, Calvin (Daisy) Thomas Sr. of Mayersville and Bennie (Mildred) Thomas of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 40 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one goddaughter, Gwendolyn Gaston of Glen Allan; three godsisters, Velma Flowers, Ruby Bogan and Gertrude Clark, all of Greenville; two godbrothers, Larry McCoy and Jack McCoy, both of Greenville; a special friend, Earnestine Bean of Glen Allan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

The Rev. E.R. Robinson will officiate.

Williams

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Celestine Williams, 71, of Greenville will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at St. John MB Church, Greenville. She died Aug. 28, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Celestine Townsend Williams departed this life on her journey to her heavenly home on Aug. 28, 2001. She was preceded in death by one daughter at the age of five, Annie Lou Townsend.

She leaves to mourn her passing a loving father, James Townsend of Greenville; a stepmother, Rose Lee Townsend of Greenville; one brother, Tommy Frank (Odessa) Townsend of Hernando; seven sisters, Otha Reeds, Addie Phillips and Georgia Hunter, all of Shelby, Mary Greene of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Charlene (Frank) Jones of Kissimme, Fla., and Elitha Townsend and Nekisha Townsend, both of Greenville; one stepbrother, Patrick Lee of Greenville; four daughters, Margaret Murphy of Greenville, Lillie (James) Banks of Hernando, and Argusta Walker and Doris J. (David) Ingraham, both of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.; two sons, James Joe (Ruby) Hanger Jr. and George (Ather Jean) Townsend, both of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and two very dear friends, Pearlene Corbs of Greenville and Gladys Martin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Rev. Jerome Bailey will officiate.

Buford

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Funeral services for Viola Buford, 81, of Long Beach and formerly of Scott, Miss., were March 21, at 10 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Long Beach. She died March 16, 2002, in Long Beach. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress under the direction of Long Beach Colonial Mortuary in Long Beach.

Davis

LELAND — Funeral arrangements for Amos Davis Jr., 54, of Leland are pending at Frye Funeral Home, Leland. He died April 2, 2002, at his home.

Hurns

GLEN ALLAN — Funeral services for Rufus Hurns, 85, of Glen Allan will be today at noon at Union Grove MB Church, Glen Allan. He died March 28, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Glen Allan Cemetery under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Wilson Piggs will officiate.

Rush

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Ruben Thomas "R.T." Rush, 66, of Greenville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Moriah MB Church, Greenville. He died March 31, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Will Rush Sr.; one brother, Robert Daniel Rush; and two sisters, Lelar B. Rush-Lyons and Paulette Rush-Fair.

Survivors include his wife, Minnel E. Rush of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; 11 children; three stepsons; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Lelar Mae Rush of Greenville; two brothers, Rufus A. (Jackie) Rush of Stanhope, N.J., and Will Rush Jr. of Albany, N.Y.; three sisters, Willie Ann Smith of Des Moines, Henrietta Rush-Green of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Bessie A. (Dr. Ray) Rush-Johnson of Pasadena, Calif.; one aunt; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Rev. M.J. Dean will officiate.

Washington

MOORHEAD — Funeral services for Ruthie Mae Washington, 67, of Moorhead will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Luke Church of God In Christ, Moorhead. She died of heart failure April 1, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Moorhead, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Belzoni.

Survivors include three sons, James Washington of Saginaw, Mich., Roosevelt Washington of Jackson, Tenn., and Kenneth Washington of Jackson, Miss.; seven daughters, Teresa Washington and Cresandra Washington, both of Jackson, Miss., Dorothy Washington of Indianola, Mary Washington and Era Jackson, both of Saginaw, Mich., and Jammie Washington and Rosie White, both of Moorhead; one brother, Thomas Echoles of Winslow, Ariz.; and three sisters, Lila Thomas and Mary Hayes, both of Winslow, Ariz., and Essie McMath of Saginaw, Mich.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Belzoni. The body will lie in state at the church from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Superintendent Frank Howard Sr. will officiate.

Whatley

RULEVILLE — Funeral services for Marvin Whatley Sr., 80, of Ruleville, a retired roofing contractor, will be today at 3 p.m. at Williams & Lord Funeral Home, Ruleville. He died April 1, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Lehrton Cemetery, Ruleville.

Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Whatley, April 25, 1976; a brother, Plez Whatley; a sister, Leola Walker; and two daughters-in-law, Jimmy Zell Whatley, July 13, 1996, and Mary Roncallie Whatley, Dec. 28, 1975.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Florence Whatley of Ruleville; three sons, Marvin Whatley Jr. of Ruleville, Pete Adams of Jackson and Jerry Lee Adams of Greenville; three daughters, Alice Barnett of Doddsville, Betty Hill of Greenville and Mary Smith of Belzoni; three sisters, Lou Tharp of Picayune, and Minnie Dycus and Louise Williams, both of Greenwood; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Lonny Free will officiate.

Adams

ROLLING FORK — Funeral services for Quincy Harry Adams, 73, of Rolling Fork will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Lula MB Church, Rolling Fork. He died May 27, 2002, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in St. Peter MB Church Cemetery, Mayersville, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.

Survivors include four sons, Hudson Clark, Harry Adams, Johnnie Adams and Errick Clark, all of Rolling Fork; five daughters, Fannie Adams and Tracy Adams, both of Rolling Fork, Valerie (Michael) Clay of Cary, and Debbie Adams and Quincella Clark, both of Mayersville; one brother, Orie (Elizabeth) Adams Sr. of Rolling Fork; one sister, Earnestine Bell of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pastor J.H. Whitehead will officiate.

Byars

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Sentelmore Byars Sr., 86, of Greenville will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest MB Church, Greenville. He died May 28, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Byars was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Jennie Byars; three sons; seven brothers; and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Sarah Brady Byas of Greenville; seven daughters, Jennie (James) Thomas, Josephine Peoples, Bobbie Byas, Lubertha (Lavon) Hall, Sarah Haney, Mae Francis (Willie) Tyler and Sallie (George) Williams, all of Greenville; six sons, L.T. (Gloria) Byars, Willie (Annie Byars, Houston (Shirley) Byars, Kenneth (Patricia) Byars and Gregory (Geraldine) Byars, all of Greenville, and Douglas (Shunaca) Byars of Jonesboro, Ga.; a grandson whom he raised, Carl Michael (Samantha) McCray of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Nancy Pelts of Dallas, Texas, and Jenny Sutton of Greenville; four sisters-in-law, Alean (Elijah) Monday and Goldine Brady, both of Chicago, and Lucille Whitehead and Elizabeth Hines, both of Chulahoma, Miss.; one brother-in-law, Mose (Willie) Brady of Shannon, Miss.; a special niece, Georgia Lee of Los Angeles; a special friend, Willie Butler of Greenville; a special daughter-in-law, Betty (Terrence) Byars Phinisee of Houston, Texas; 100 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. The remains will lie in state Sunday at the church from 3 to 4 p.m.
