GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Hattie Lee, 65, of Greenville will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at New White Stone MB Church, Greenville. She died July 12, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include one sister, Bessie (James) Jones of Greenville; three brothers, George Williams, Wilson (Esther) Lee and Willie (Deola) Lee, all of Greenville; four nieces; seven nephews; 10 great-nieces; seven great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

The Rev. David Rawls will officiate.

Spraggins-Walker

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Lauretta Spraggins-Walker, 75, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove (South) MB Church, Greenville. She died July 11, 2002, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was born July 5, 1927, the last of seven children from the union of Annie and Morris Caldwell of Pheba, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and one sister.

At an early age, she accepted the call to Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Pheba. In 1946, she married Woodrow Spraggins Sr. This union was blessed with five children. They moved to Greenville in December 1962. In 1963, they joined Shady Grove MB Church under the pastorage of the late Clarence Johnson. Woodrow preceded her in death in 1972. Johnnie Walker Sr. and Lauretta were married in 1981. In 1991, they moved their membership to the Greater St. Mary MB Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.L. Reed and the Rev. Thomas Gray. Johnnie preceded her in death in 1998. In March of 2002, she moved her membership back to Shady Grove MB Church under the pastorage of Charles E. Stewart. She remained here as a mother and active member until her death.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Mary (Henry) Miller of Detroit and Betty (Willie) Barksdale of Greenville; three sons, Woodrow (Angela) Spraggins Jr. of Columbus, Ga., Clifton (Sharon) Spraggins of Leland and Kenneth Spraggins of Greenville; five stepsons; five stepdaughters; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., with family hour from 5 to 6 p.m., at Redmon Funeral Home chapel. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Pastor Charles E. Stewart will officiate.

Thornton

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Loretta Thornton, 73, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel MB Church, Greenville. She died July 10, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Dillon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Thornton was a homemaker for most of her life. Her declining years were spent as a resident of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Greenville.

She leaves to cherish her memories her guardians, Darnell and Helen Coleman of Greenville; one brother, Ned (Maxine) Allen of Clarksdale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The Rev. Morris McCaskill will officiate.

Turner

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Turner, 71, of Greenville, a retired school principal, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Hope First Baptist Church, Greenville. He died July 13, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital, Memphis. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Turner is retired principal of Ella Darling Elementary School in Greenville.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Ozel Turner of Greenville; one daughter, Wanda Turner-Abioto; one son-in-law, Ekpe Abioto; five granddaughters, Intisar Abioto, Ranifah Abioto, Kalimah Abioto, Amenta Abioto and Aisha Abioto, all of Memphis; one brother, Dwight Turner of Las Vegas; one sister, Dorcas Turner-Lenoir of Gary, Ind.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., with family hour from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Pastor Robert E. Kimble will officiate.

Walker

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Horace Walker, 79, of Greenville are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. He died July 17, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Wilson

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Clendean J. Wilson, 75, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Greenville. She died July 15, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Clendean Jones Wilson was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Sunflower County to Mr. Eli and Mrs. Pernella Jones.

She accepted Christ as her savior at a very young age. When her family moved to Greenville, she joined First Baptist Church under the leadership of L.W. Williams, where she was a member of the Missionary Society. She remained at First Baptist Church, now under the leadership of Moses L. McIntosh, until her death.

Clendean attended Greenville public schools. She was employed for 32 years with the Greenville Public School District as a food service manager, where she left an everlasting impression on the children she prepared lunches for.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Raymond Earl Wilson Sr. From this union, two children were born, but because of her maternal nature and giving spirit, many children were fostered under her care and she claimed them as her own, one of them being a special baby girl.

Clendean made a peaceful departure from her earthly home on Monday, July 16, 2002.

"For now I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:6-7.

To cherish her memories, she leaves her loving and devoted children, Raymond Earl Wilson Jr. (Linda), Vanda Wilson Raggs (the late Joseph Raggs), and Burnedean Allen-Holt; 10 grandchildren, Alexandria Raggs, Raymona Wilson, Shonda Robinson, Katrina Washington (Charles), Carmella Ford (Jesse), Brianna Holt, Nigel Holt, Felecia Buchanan, Corky Allen and Beverly Liddell; five great-grandchildren; one special sister-in-law, Rubye Smith Jackson; a loving aunt, Agnes Brown; a devoted cousin, Brenda Williams; four special friends, Ms. Phalange Word, Ms. Mary Catholic, Ms. Sanders and Mrs. Rubye Hester; She also leaves caring neighbors, Ms. Liddell, Mr. Morganfield, Ms. Barbara Gales and Mr. and Mrs. James Gregory; and a dependable helper, "Roscoe"; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Pastor Moses L. McIntosh will officiate.

Jones

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Betty Jean Jones, 65, of Greenville are pending at Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Jan. 31, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Oliver

BELZONI — Funeral services for Minnie Oliver, 78, of Belzoni will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shiloh (Pluck) MB Church, Belzoni. She died of heart failure Jan. 30, 2003, at Humphreys County Memorial Hospital, Belzoni. Burial will be in Humphreys County Memorial Garden Cemetery, Belzoni, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Belzoni.

Survivors include one son, John Oliver Jr. of Jackson; two daughters, Louise Oliver and Anita Harris, both of Belzoni; one brother, Walter Smith of Isola; one sister, Mary Oliver of Belzoni; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from noon to 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Belzoni.

The Rev. Frank Belmon will officiate.

Williams

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Carilous Williams, 69, of Greenville are pending at Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Feb. 2, 2003, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

Alexander

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Robert Heard Alexander, 65, of Greenville will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. James' Episcopal Church, Greenville. He died March 23, 2003, at his home after being ill with multiple sclerosis for many years. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

A retired banker and businessman, Mr. Alexander was born March 25, 1937, at The King's Daughters Hospital in Greenville, the second son of George Edward and Frances Murphy Alexander. He attended Greenville Public Schools, graduating in 1955. He received his B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 1959 and graduated from the Louisiana School of Banking in 1967.

Mr. Alexander served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961, after which he returned to Greenville to join Alexander Lumber Co. for a year. He became assistant cashier and branch manager for Commercial National Bank (now Trustmark) in 1962. During his 24 years at the bank, he rose to the position of executive vice president. He was forced to retire because of multiple sclerosis in 1986.

During Mr. Alexander's active years, he held many leadership positions in the community. He served as president of the Washington County YMCA Board, campaign chairman and president of the Washington County United Way and president of the Greenville Rotary Club. He was also a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow.

In 1980, the Washington County Board of Supervisors appointed Mr. Alexander as Washington County's representative on the Commission on Mental Illness and Mental Retardation for the Fifth Region of Mississippi. He served as chairman from 1980 to 1992. He was presented a joint resolution of appreciation from the supervisors and the commission at his retirement.

He also served as chairman of the Washington County Cancer Crusade, treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce and was a Salvation Army Board member. He served as stewardship chairman for St. James' Episcopal Church, where he was a communicant.

Mr. Alexander was active in the Mississippi Young Bankers Association and served that organization as vice president, president and executive council member.

After his retirement from the bank in 1986, Mr. Alexander purchased the Credit Bureau of Greenville Inc., which he owned for a number of years.

Despite his increasing disability, Mr. Alexander founded and was president of Handicapped Inc., a local non-profit organization. He devoted much time to raising public awareness for the needs of disabled persons in the community, particularly as to the need for handicapped parking, curb cuts and access to buildings.

At the time of his death, he was serving as co-chair of the 2003 Mid-Delta fund-raiser for the Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Virginia Ford Alexander.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marian Sykes Alexander, and two children, Robert Heard Alexander Jr. of Jackson and Lanier Sykes Alexander Quantz of Atlanta; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Leigh Alexander; a son-in-law, Newton G. Quantz III; and four grandchildren, Claire Sykes Alexander, Millie Rives Alexander, Newton Gaston Quantz IV and Shelton Sykes Quantz.

Other survivors include his two brothers, George Edward Alexander Jr. and Kenneth Conwill Alexander, and his sisters and brother-in-law, Fay Prince Alexander, Lanier Sykes Bogen and Eugene Michael Bogen, all of Greenville; an aunt, Mary Murphy of West Point, Miss.; an uncle-in-law, Walter Lee Shelton Jr. of Jackson; and eight nieces and nephews.

After the burial, friends are invested to visit with family members at a reception in the St. James' Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. James' Organ Fund, 1026 S. Washington Ave., Greenville, MS 38701 or the Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 145 Executive Drive, Madison, MS 38110.
