Cawthon

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for James A. Cawthon, 87, of Greenville, a retired towboat builder, will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. He died March 28, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

Mr. Cawthon was born in Pioneer, La., and lived in the Greenville area for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Cawthon; and one son, James L. Cawthon.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Cawthon Heard of Madison and Janice Cawthon Snyder of Greenville; two sons, Raymond Cawthon of Greenville and Robert "Gerry" Cawthon of Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Lila Cook of Eudora, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Coleman

DUNCAN — Funeral arrangements for Jessie J. Coleman, 57, of Duncan are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. He died March 29, 2002, at Northwest Regional Medical Center, Clarksdale.

Dunn

STURGIS — Funeral services for Carl Wilson Dunn, 89, of Sturgis, a farmer, will be today at 3 p.m. at Wake Forest Baptist Church, Sturgis. He died March 29, 2002, in Starkville. Burial will be in Wake Forest Cemetery, Wake Forest, under the direction of Starkville Funeral Home, Starkville.

Dunn was born July 24, 1912, in Perry County, Tenn. He was preceded in death by a son, Buddy Dunn.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Smith Dunn of Sturgis; three daughters, Barbara D. Rogers of Starkville, and Sylvia D. Box and Beverly D. Phillips, both of Sturgis; three sisters, Jackie Finley of Baton Rouge, La., Dorothy Dawson of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Hazel Ray of Greenville; one brother, Robert "Bob" Dunn of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Starkville Funeral Home. The body will lie in repose for one hour before the service begins.

The Rev. James Yarbrough and the Rev. Lynn Rodrigue will officiate.

Memorials can be sent to the French Camp Academy.

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Rufus Hurns, 85, of Greenville are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. He died March 28, 2002, in Greenville.

Long

DREW — Funeral arrangements for Mary Long, 70, of Drew are pending at T.L. Redmon Funeral Home, Hollandale. She died March 29, 2002, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland.

O'Neal

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Gloria Jean O'Neal, 51, of Greenville will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Victory Temple Church, Greenville. She died March 28, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include her husband, Monroe O'Neal of Greenville; one son, Aldrick Woodruff of Minneapolis; three daughters, Lisa McNeil and Amara O'Neal, both of Greenville, and Ursula Thomas of Dallas; four sisters, Deloris Thomas and Jutuan Brown, both of Detroit, Vanessa Powers of Chicago and Monica Hickman of Memphis; seven brothers, Michael Brown, Dwan Brown, Millaun Brown, Shelton Grayson, Shakur Muhammad, Madrid Brown and Terry Pointer, all of Chicago; one grandson, Austin McNeil of Greenville; one sister-in-law, Auwilda Polk of Greenville; and two uncles, Edward Thomas of Chicago and Jimmy Thomas of Detroit.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 p.m., with family hour from 3 to 4 p.m., at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Eddie Williams will officiate.

Washington

GUNNISON — Funeral arrangements for Annie B. Washington, 87, of Gunnison are pending with Byas Funeral Home, Shelby. She died March 28, 2002, at her home.

Colbert

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Crystal Denise Colbert, 23 of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died May 27, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Scott

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Barbara Jean Scott, 57 of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died May 27, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Alma Sias, 81 of Greenville are pending with Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died May 27, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville.

Glenn

CLEVELAND — Funeral arrangements for Essie Glenn, 80, of Cleveland are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died July 23, 2002, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland.

Hicks

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Marilyn Taggart Hicks, 66, of Greenville will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Greenville. She died July 22, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was born in Lake Village, Ark., Dec. 13, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Eugenia C. "Jinks" Moore, and was preceded in death by her first husband, William S. Taggart Jr. of Greenville.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Greenville, and was a longtime Sunday school teacher, most recently serving as one of the teachers of the Billy Ireland Class. She was a teacher in the WMU Noon Bible Study at First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Greenville Community Bible Study and served as a sponsor and volunteer for the Greenville-Leland Emmaus Community. She was a member of the Alice Bell Garden Club of Greenville. She was a den leader of Cub Scouts for many years. She was the office manager for Greenville Golf & Country Club for over 30 years. She attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus.

Marilyn Hicks was a person who loved the Lord and her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and traveling. She brought light and laughter into the lives of everyone she met. "She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also; and he praises her. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31.16-31.

Survivors include her husband, John D. Hicks; two brothers, Robert F. Moore of Tallahassee, Fla., and Herman Carlton Moore of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter Dale Montgomery of Greenville; sons Steve Taggart of Dallas, Texas, and Bob Taggart of Richardson, Texas; a stepson, Steve Hicks of Germantown, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Julia Hicks Wiman of Owensboro, Ky.; grandchildren Angie Hazzard and husband, Shelby, Jennifer Montgomery and Jamie Montgomery, all of Greenville, Mary Paige and Lee Cossar Taggart of Richardson, Texas, Zoe Grace Taggart of Dallas, Texas, Drew, John Thomas and Will Hicks of Germantown, Tenn., and Lucas and Whit Wiman of Owensboro, Ky.; daughters-in-law Susan Taggart, Stacey Taggart and Sherrie Hicks; sons-in-law Jimmy Montgomery and Chet Wiman; sisters-in-law Vivian Moore and Marjorie Moore; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Jay Richardson will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Scott Phillips, James Holloway, Ricky Lewis, Joel Henderson and Guy Freeman, all of Greenville, and Travis Ferguson Jr. of Batesville.

Manor

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Marie Manor, 68, of Greenville, a homemaker, will be today at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. She died of heart failure July 20, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Vickland Cemetery, Delta City.

Mrs. Manor was born Dec. 6, 1933, at Ethel, Miss., to the late Murray and Eula Jacobs. She was raised at Ethel, where she attended school and graduated from Ethel High School. She and her husband, Bill, made their home in Greenville in 1969, where she has been a resident since. She was a member of Riverport Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Larry Manor, who died in 1995, and Michael Lynn Manor, who died in 1954.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Manor of Greenville; one daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Darrell Manning of Greenville; one sister, Georgia Lee Ingram of Purvis, Miss.; two brothers, Harry Jacobs of Purvis, Miss., and Alton Martis Jacobs of Clinton, Miss.; four grandchildren, Christopher Manor, Amanda Manning, Holley Manning and Chastity Hahs; two great-grandchildren, Anne Noel Hahs and Christina Hahs; and one daughter-in-law, Cyndia Manor.

The Rev. Jack Manor Jr. and the Rev. David Lee will officiate.

Skinner

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Alinden Marion Skinner, 79, of Greenville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. He died July 18, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville.

Mr. Skinner was born April 8, 1923, to Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Pauline (Branch) Skinner of Vicksburg, Miss. While growing up in Vicksburg, he attended both public and private schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a World War II veteran. He resided in Detroit, Mich., for many years, where he worked for the Cadillac Asphalt Co. After retirement in 1988, he returned to Greenville.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Willie E. Skinner of Greenville; five daughters, Esther (Cleo) Dorsey of St. Louis, Mo., Addie L. Watson of San Francisco, and Beatrice (Stanley) Johnson, Annie (Marvin) Taylor and Bernice Atterberry, all of Detroit; two sons, Richard (Lenore) Summersett of Detroit and Kenneth (Silke) Skinner of Bettenburg, Germany; one sister, Velma Davis of Vicksburg; one sister-in-law, Otha Skinner of Vicksburg; one aunt-in-law, Johnnie Mitchell of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

The Rev. J.E. Warren will officiate.

Williams

SCOTT — Funeral services for George E. Williams, 65, of Decatur, Ga., and formerly of Scott will be today at 11 a.m. at Seven Star MB Church, Scott. He died July 18, 2002, in Decatur. Burial will Thursday at 10 a.m. in Natchez National Cemetery, Natchez, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Ronald Woodruff will officiate.

Bullock

SHELBY -- Funeral services for Martha Francis Bullock, 90, of Shelby will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Shelby United Methodist Church. She died Oct. 5, 2002, at Indywood Glen Personal Care, Greenwood. Burial will be in Shelby Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland.

The Rev. W.A. Pennington will officiate.
