ITTA BENA -- Funeral services for Eddie D. Harris, 78, of Itta Bena will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at I John MB Church, Doddsville. He died Jan. 29, 2003, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in I John Church Cemetery under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include his wife, Syvilla Harris of Itta Bena; six sons, Sylvester Harris Sr., Charles Harris, Arthur Harris and Carlos Harris, all of Itta Bena, Winston Harris of Greenwood and Danny Harris of Memphis; seven daughters, Azell Malone of Park Forrest, Ill., Elsie Rodgers of Chicago, Francis Liddell of St. Louis, Mo., Jacqueline Harris of Greenwood, and Martha Howard, Pamela Coleman and Donna Harris, all of Itta Bena; 34 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

The Rev. Terry McDuffy will officiate.

Harris

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. -- Graveside services for Rick Harris, 50, of Hillsborough, N.C., will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery. He died Jan. 29, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center. Burial will be under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Hillsborough, N.C.

He was born to Martin and Elouise Harris of Greenville, Miss. Rick worked for the Herald-Sun Newspaper as a district sales manager. He was a member of the American Legion and was a Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include his wife and soulmate, Ava; one son, Ricky Harris Jr. of Danville, Va.; one sister, Teresa Dixon of Danville, Va.; one brother, Randy Harris of Clarksville, Va.; two aunts; three uncles; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will be at Walkers Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Johnson

LELAND -- Funeral services for Carrie Jackson Johnson, 84, of Leland will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter MB Church, Leland. She died Jan. 29, 2003, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Dillon Funeral Home, Leland.

She began her Christian journey at an early age as a Methodist, but later migrated to the Delta 59 years ago. She joined St. Peter MB Church in Leland, Miss., serving as an usher until her health failed.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, William Johnson; one son, Willie Tyler; and one grandson, Anthony Paul Chambers.

She leaves to cherish her memory one devoted daughter, Bertha Chambers of Leland; one brother, Joe Jackson of Vidalia, La.; one grandson, Michael Tyler of Seaside, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; three special nieces, Martha Green of Cannonburg, Miss., Lollie Doss of New Orleans and Nita Toy of Leland; several friends including Earnestine Holmes, Jessie Rainey, Stephanie Johnson and Jerry Snipes, all of Leland; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Dillon Funeral Home, Leland.

The Rev. Billy Robinson will officiate.

King

INVERNESS -- Funeral services for Joe Lee King Jr., 49, of Inverness will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, Indianola. He died Jan. 25, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include his father, Joe Lee King Sr. of Inverness; mother, Estella King of Inverness; wife, Betty King of Isola; one daughter, Tina King of Isola; four brothers, Herman King, Willie King, John King and Roy Lee King, all of Inverness; and five sisters, Bobbie Jean Harris and Wendy Johnson, both of Indianola, Hazel Ratliff of St. Louis, Mo., and Janice Polk and Barbara Lewis, both of Moorhead.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Elder Elijah Walker will officiate.

McCullum

ANGUILLA -- Funeral services for Virginia McCullum, 68, of Anguilla will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Chapel of the Cross Church, Nitta Yuma. She died Jan. 25, 2003, at her home. Burial will be in Nitta Yuma Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.

Survivors include two sons, Freddie Webster and Jimmy Webster, both of Anguilla; two daughters, Juanita Jennings of Vicksburg and Debra Smith of Anguilla; one brother, Cullie Smith of Anguilla; one sister, Diane Smith of Anguilla; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pastor Johnnie Mackin will officiate.

Payne

GREENVILLE -- Graveside services for Carey Meredith Payne Jr., 79, a retired bookkeeper of Greenville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville. He died of heart failure Jan. 29, 2003, at Montfort Jones Hospital, Kosciusko. Burial will be under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Payne was born in Winterville, Miss., to the late Mattie and Carey Payne. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1940 and went into the Army during World War II. He served in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he went to Delta State for two years and then worked as a bookkeeper for grocery wholesalers and Friedman Iron and Metal Co. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Payne of Greenville; two daughters, Peggy (Ken) Wilson of Avon and Sue (David) Ziegenhorn of Sikeston, Mo.; one son, Buddy (Mary Pat) Payne of Chicago; one sister, Kathryn P. Bolton of Wilmington, Ohio; six grandchildren, Chick (Jennifer) Wilson of Dallas, Jeff (Mary) Wilson of Leland, Scott (Christy) Wilson of Greenville, Charlie Ziegenhorn and Beth Ziegenhorn, both of Sikeston, Mo., and Daniel Payne of Waterloo, La.; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Will Dowling will officiate.

Roberts

CHICAGO -- Funeral services for Irene Roberts, 99, of Chicago and formerly of Indianola will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Indianola. She died Jan. 24, 2003, at Roseland Community Hospital, Chicago. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include one daughter, Julie Hicks of Chicago; and four grandchildren, Shirley Hicks of Indianola, James Hicks Jr. and Gregory Hicks, both of Chicago, and Andrew Hicks of Orlando, Fla.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. The body will lie in state at the church from noon to 1 p.m.

The Rev. Ellis Johnson Jr. will officiate.

Schaffarzick

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Memorial services for Margaret King Schaffarzick, 81, of Baton Rouge, La., were held Tuesday at Resthaven Gardens, Baton Rouge. She died Jan. 25, 2003. Arrangements were under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, La.

She was a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and received a graduate degree in dietetics from Vanderbilt University. In 1943, she was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army during World War II. She was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Robert Schaffarzick in 1960.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine (Mike) Moore of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Dr. William King (Lynn) Schaffarzick of Greenville and Dr. Robert Donald (Lynn) Schaffarzick of Kemmerer, Wyo.; a sister, Mary Katherine King of Atlanta, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or the charity of the donor's choice.

Terrell

MOUND BAYOU -- Funeral services for Brittany Brianna Terrell, stillborn, of Mound Bayou will be today at 2 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home chapel, Cleveland. She died Jan. 23, 2003, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland. Burial will be in Mound Bayou Memorial Gardens, Mound Bayou.

She is survived by her mother, Debra Terrell, and father, Winston Terrell, both of Mound Bayou.

Thomas

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Marvin Earl Thomas, 49, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kindling Star MB Church, Greenville. He died Jan. 27, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Thomas was born in Greenville Nov. 21, 1953, to Margarete Hughes Thomas of Greenville and the late Isaiah Thomas.

He attended Greenville public schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1971.

Mr. Thomas' philosophy was the test of our love to God is the love we have for one another.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Josephine Thomas; two daughters, Aukeya Lloyd Thomas of Greenville and Michelle Jackson (Kevin) Hemphill of Houston, Texas; one son, Richard Maurice Jackson of Greenville; his mother, Margarete Hughes Thomas of Greenville; mother-in-law, Marie Jackson Tyes of Greenville; two brothers, Isaiah (Rose Mary) Thomas and William Thomas, both of Greenville; six sisters, Perteria (Earl) Allen, Joyce (Don) Wise and Janice Thomas, all of Greenville, Lovie Ann Thomas Brown of Dallas, Benetta Thomas of Lansing, Ill., and Linda Faye Thomas-Amani of Chicago; one aunt, Greta Hughes Cofield of Boston; one uncle, Rupert (Rozetta) Hughes of Boston; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Peoples and Artis Mae Brothers, both of Greenville; one brother-in-law, Emmett (Gloria) Jackson of Springfield, Ill.; and many, many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Kindling Star MB Church, Greenville.

The Rev. Lester Jones will officiate.

Turner

LAKE VILLAGE, Ark. -- Funeral services for Rubye Nell Bolding Turner, 89, of Lake Village, Ark., will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lakeside United Methodist Church, Lake Village. She died Jan. 29, 2003, in Lake Village. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Eudora, Ark., under the direction of Griffin-Steele Funeral Services, lake Village.

Mrs. Turner was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend known affectionately as "Miss Ruby" to all. She resided in Portland, Ark., until she moved to Lake Village four years ago. She was a member of Portland Baptist Church and attended Lakeside United Methodist Church after moving to Lake Village. Her loves in life were her family, her many friends and her church. She will be remembered for her kindness and the gentle lady she was. Her talents included the many quilts she made and the flowers she grew.

She was born April 15, 1913, the daughter of the late John and Betty Bolding. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Turner.

She leaves behind a son, Clarence Turner Jr. and his wife Mary of Lake Charles, La.; five daughters, JoAnn T. Coleman and husband Otto of Greenville, Frances and husband Bill E. Steele of Lake Village, Margaret and husband Ben Powell of Monroe, La., Carolyn and husband Jim Williams of Collierville, Tenn., and Marilyn and husband Al Dvoracek of Mansfield, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Steele Funeral Home chapel.

The Rev. Todd-Paul Taulbee will officiate.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandson and grandsons-in-law.
