Gardner

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Adline Patterson Gardner, 90, of Greenville will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Greater Hinds Street MB Church, Greenville. She died May 28, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Beautiful Zion Cemetery, Bobo, under the direction of Crain Funeral Home, Brandon.

Adline P. Gardner was the oldest of 15 children born to the late Jonas and Vinnie Patterson. Miss Gardner was born June 28, 1912, in Liberty, Miss. She attended the Liberty Baptist School until 1929; she was in the eighth grade. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.

She came to know and love the late John Gardner and they married in 1942, moving to Shelby, Miss., and then later to Bobo, Miss. This marriage lasted until his death in September 1969. No children were born to this union.

In March of 1942, she joined the Beautiful Zion MB Church, where she remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. In 1997, she moved to Long Beach, Calif., then later back to Greenville in 1998. In 2001, she joined membership with the Greater Hinds Street MB Church in Greenville, Miss.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers, Matthew, Curtis, Hollis, Rufus, John, Smiley, Esaw, Jack and Elijah, and three sisters, Nancy, Mamie and Tiney.

She leaves to cherish her memories two brothers, Adam Patterson and Daniel Patterson, both of New Orleans; her surrogate children, Ruth O'Neal (Sibley) McDowell of Los Angeles, Calif., Mary D. (Sibley) Smith of Clarksdale, Dorothy M. (Sibley) Robbins of Long Beach, Calif., Henry Sibley of Chicago, Laur Reace (Sibley) Moore of Greenville and Iesha P. Moore of Clarksdale; her extended love for Rosa Adams of Cleveland, Ohio, Marie Williams of Greenville and a lifelong friend, Francis Johnson of Greenville; and a special bond for a number of nephews, nieces and friends.

Pastor Thomas Morris Sr. will officiate.

Griffin

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Susie A. Griffin, 75, of Greenville are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville. She died May 30, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Monittee

RALEIGH, N.C. — Funeral arrangements for Peter Monittee, 56, of Raleigh are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville, Miss. He died May 29, 2003, at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.

Williams

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Dr. John Wesley Williams, 95, of Greenville, a retired physician, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. He died of heart failure June 1, 2003, at his home. A private burial will be at a later date.

Dr. Williams was born Jan. 6, 1908, in Jackson, Tenn. He practiced medicine in Greenville from March 1938 until his retirement in 1981. His practice was interrupted from 1940 to 1945, when he served as a surgeon in the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater during World War II. He returned to Greenville following the war and maintained a general surgery practice in partnership with Dr. F.M. Acree on Shelby Street. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Dr. Williams was a founding member of the Ashbrook Hunting Club in 1953. He was also a member of the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Laverne Wilkins Williams, and his son, Price Montgomery Williams of Houston, Texas.

The family expresses deep gratitude to Christine Shannon for her dedication and devoted care for Dr. Williams in the last days of his life.

Survivors include three daughters, Marcia Kay DeSonier of Pensacola, Fla., Penny W. Weaver of Montgomery, Ala., and Jennifer W. DeBruhl of Nashville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Penelope Jenkins of Baton Rouge, La., and Savannah L. Weaver of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four grandsons, Michael M. Kenty of Collierville, Tenn., John W. Kenty of Colorado Springs, Colo., Walker W. Williams of Houston, Texas, and Joshua J. DeBruhl of Nashville, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dr. Williams' name to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Ave., Montgomery, AL 36104, to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454 or to the donor's favorite charity.

Bass

CLEVELAND — Funeral arrangements for Earlene Bass, 46, of St. Louis, Mo., and formerly of Cleveland are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died July 28, 2003, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis.

Gladney

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Elnora Gladney, 100, of Greenville will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sisson Chapel of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. She died July 25, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola.

Survivors include four nieces, Ida (Thomas) Rogers and Ceola Little, both of Greenville, Earlene (Dan) Johnson of Grover, Mo., and Adrienne Little of Mitchellville, Md.; one nephew, Marc Little of Mitchellville, Md.; and four cousins, Alice Y. Grice and Lee Tucker, both of Greenville, and Frankie Little and Gwendolyn Simms, both of Detroit.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville.

The Rev. Jerry Johnson will officiate.

Mills

LELAND — Funeral arrangements for Haywood Mills Sr., 83, of Leland are pending at Dillon Funeral Home, Leland. He died July 25, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Collins

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for David Charles Collins Jr., 75, of Greenville will be Monday at noon at New Hope First Baptist Church, Greenville. He died Aug. 22, 2001, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

He was sole proprietor of the House of Progress Barber Shop on Nelson Street.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Collins of Greenville; three sons, Robert (Elona) Collins of Spring Valley, N.Y., David (Cora) Collins of Willingburg, N.J., and Greg Kinard Collins of Greenville; five daughters, Audrey Mae Collins of Memphis, Debra (Jerome) Walker and Eunice (James) Gaskin, both of Greenville, Denise (Gregory) Robertson of Yazoo City and Alma Reed of Vista, Calif.; one sister, LuBertha Collins (Willie) O'Neal of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a special niece, Erma (Ethan) Crayton of South Holland, Ill.; a special cousin and close friend, Adell (Alvora) Wright of Delaware; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Monday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Rev. Robert E. Kimble is pastor of the church. Dr. Jerry Young will officiate.

Harris

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Adrein "Coo Coo" Yolanda Harris, 24, of Indianola will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Persimmon Grove MB Church, Sunflower. She died Aug. 22, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include her father, Frankie Harris of Indianola; her mother, Thelma J. Harris of Indianola; one daughter, Alicia B. Harris of Indianola; her maternal grandmother, Jessie Mae Hemphill Lewis of Milwaukee; one sister, Elizabeth Coleman of Jackson; two brothers, Willie Coleman of Jackson and Warren Dewayne Harris Sr. of Milwaukee; six aunts, Dorothy Wigley and Cora Lewis, both of Milwaukee, Betty Harris of Florida, Hester Smith and Pakeitha Washington, both of Texas, and Velma Burley of Silver City; five uncles, Charles Lewis, Bennie Hemphill and Jimmy Harris, all of Indianola, Dennis Hemphill of Milwaukee and Robert Harris of Silver City; two great-aunts, Mary Ann Alexander of Milwaukee and Annie B. Spencer of Sikeston, Mo.; two special nieces, Mikayla Coleman of Jackson and Shaquanna Harris of Milwaukee; and one special nephew, Warren Dewayne Harris Jr. of Milwaukee.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

The Rev. Terry Cobbs will officiate.

Reed

MAYERSVILLE -- Funeral services for Willie "Little Jack" Reed Jr., 59, of Mayersville, a farmer, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church, Mayersville. He died Aug. 22, 2001, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in St. Peter Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. Obadiah Hall will officiate.

Stovall

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Lela K. Stovall, 79, of Indianola will be Saturday at Mt. Beulah Church, Indianola. She died Aug. 23, 2001, at her home. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include four daughters, Victoria Brown, Lottie B. Clay and Lindell King, all of Indianola, and Theresa Davis of Chicago; two sons, Wilson Stovall Jr. of Chicago and John B. Hill of Indianola; and one brother, John Thomas of Jackson.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 31, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

The Rev. E.T. Goodman will officiate.

Cannon

DODDSVILLE — Funeral services for Kadarius Cannon, 10, of Doddsville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ruleville Central High School, Ruleville. He died May 15, 2002, in Doddsville. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ruleville, under the direction of Dillon Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include his parents, Rufus and Jolene Cannon Sr. of Doddsville; four brothers, Kedrick Davis of Doddsville, Rufus Cannon Jr. and Lamar Cannon, both of Chicago, and Justin Winston of Milwaukee; and one sister, Neshunda Cannon of Chicago.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Dillon Funeral Home, Indianola. The body will repose at the school from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Apostle Eddie Johnson will officiate.
