Marjorie W. McElwee
Marjorie Ware McElwee, 84, of McComb, died April 19, 2000, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia.
Visitation is noon Saturday at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, until services there at 1 p.m. The Rev. Bill Henry will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. McElwee was born April 26, 1915, on the Belle Grove Plantation in White Castle, La. She was the daughter of John Stone Ware and Carmalite Gourrier Ware.
She was retired from Great Southern Wirebound Box Co. in Magnolia, and was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She was a tournament and life master bridge player, an avid bird watcher and traveler.
Mrs. McElwee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Victor McElwee Jr.; six brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles B. McElwee III and Shirley McElwee of Louisville and James W. and Nancy McElwee of Atlanta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julia M. and Robert Reeves of Magnolia and Eloise S. McElwee Fontaine and Stanley Fontaine of New Orleans; one brother, James Andrew “Red” Ware of Ponchatoula, La.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Hilton L. Allred
Hilton Luther Allred, 48, of McComb, died of heart failure April 19, 2000, at McComb Extended Care and Nursing Facility.
Visitation was from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb. Graveside services were 2 p.m. today at Pike Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Ouida King officiating.
Mr. Allred was born May 2, 1951, in South Carolina. He was the son of Hilton Lee Allred and Elma Elizabeth Smith, both deceased.
He was a retired transportation manager with the McComb School District, and a former gospel music disc jockey for WAKK radio station. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church in Summit.
Survivors include his wife, Velma C. Allred of McComb; twin sons, Christopher Mikel Allred and Charles Ray Allred, both of McComb; and several uncles and aunts.

Arlene D. Plaisance
Arlene D. Plaisance, 57, of Magnolia, died of cancer April 19, 2000, at Southern Hearts Hospice in Brookhaven.
Visitation is from 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church until services there at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Dore officiating. Burial will be in Pike Memorial Gardens in McComb. Hartman Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Plaisance was born June 9, 1942, in Galliano, La. She was the daughter of O.B. Dufrene of Galliano and the late Verna Doucet Dufrene.
She was assistant director of Lears Preschool in Tylertown. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Magnolia.
Survivors include her father; her husband, Larry R. Plaisance of Magnolia; two sons and their wives, Larry “Chuck” and Roxanne Plaisance, and Chance M. and Charity A. Plaisance, all of Magnolia; a daughter and son-in-law, Teri P. and James McCue Jr. of McComb; three grandchildren, Brandon Plaisance, Ryan Plaisance and Fallon Plaisance; a step-grandson and his wife, Kevin and Julie Delette; one great-grandchild, Kevin Delette; two brothers, Avery Dufrene and Larry Dufrene, both of Cut Off, La.; and two sisters, Mary Ann Liner of Galliano and Mary Ellen Callais of Pointe-aux-Chenes, La.
Pallbearers will be Chance Plaisance, Chuck Plaisance, Larry Dufrene, Avery Dufrene, James McCue and Vincent Liner Jr.
Roma M. Wittenburg
Roma Clyde Madden Wittenburg, 94, of McComb, died April 23, 2000, at her residence.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in McComb, with James Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Monaghan Cemetery in Tylertown. Catchings Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wittenburg was born Jan. 14, 1906, in Georgia. She was the daughter of Laurel Madden and Gertrude Shirley Madden.
She was a homemaker and a member of the East Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in McComb.
Mrs. Wittenburg was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dan Wittenburg; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, David Wittenburg of Memphis, Tenn., and Philip and Billie Wittenburg of McComb; two daughters, Nell Blythe of McComb and Joyce Gibson of Torrence, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Owen M. Rawls
Owen Moak Rawls, 83, of Bogue Chitto, died of heart failure April 22, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.
Visitation continues until 2 p.m. services today at Harrigill Funeral Home in Brookhaven. The Rev. Walter Sisco and the Rev. Grey Forbus will officiate. Burial is in Henry Moak Cemetery in Bogue Chitto.
Mr. Rawls was born May 4, 1916, in Lincoln County. He was the son of the late Owen S. Rawls and Carrie Moak Rawls.
He was a retired rancher and cattleman. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Owen David Rawls of Houston, Texas, and Winston “Pete” Rawls and Gale “Cooter” Rawls, both of Bogue Chitto; two daughters, Linda Bond of Purvis and Elizabeth Dyer of Raymond; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Margaret VanNorman
Margaret VanNorman, 92, of Liberty, died April 23, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Visitation is 5-8 tonight at Brown Funeral Home in Liberty, and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until services there at 10 a.m. The Rev. Ernest Whittington and Dr. Martin Hayden will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.
Mrs. VanNorman was born Aug. 27, 1907, in Little Rock, Ark. She was the daughter of Elick Smith and Sarah Maynard Smith.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. VanNorman was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Charlie Morgan; and her second husband Eddie J. VanNorman.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy L. and Jeannie Morgan of Baton Rouge, La., Lucius and Florence Morgan and the Rev. Ernest Whittington, who she helped raise and shared with his parents, and Whittington’s wife Betty, all of Liberty; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Smith of McComb; one sister, Doris Dine of Harrison, Ark.; two special sisters-in-law, Bess Simmons of McComb and Rhoda Iverson of Gloster; and two other sisters-in-law, Eddis Morgan of Liberty and Eunice Downey.
Bertie G. Cannon
Bertie Gammill Cannon, 91, of Plantation House in Bude, died of heart failure April 23, 2000, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville. Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Springhill Baptist Church in Knoxville, with the Rev. Mike Carraway officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cannon was born Nov. 16, 1908, in Franklin County. She was the daughter of Rufus Gammill and Effie Ivey Smith Gammill.
She was a homemaker and a member of Springhill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cannon was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Rex D. Cannon.
Survivors include one son, Rudolph Cannon of Uvalde, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and long standing friend and sister-in-law, Maggie Cannon Thomas of Roxie.
Katie M. Watts
Katie Mae Martin Watts, 99, of Pride, La., died of heart failure April 20, 2000, at her residence.
Services were 3 p.m. Saturday at Harrigill Funeral Home in Brookhaven. Elder Wayne Myers and Elder Melvin Myers officiated. Burial was at Alderman Cemetery in Lincoln County.
Mrs. Watts was born Feb. 19, 1901, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of John Carroll Martin and Pernecie E. Tarver Martin.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, La., where she was the oldest member of the church.
Mrs. Watts was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Claude P. Watts.
Survivors include two sons, Clifton Watts of Prairieville, La., and Carroll Watts of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Eva Nell Johnson of Pride and Helen Hammack of Gonzales, La.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Richard L. Boyd
Richard Lee Boyd, 77, of Prairieville, La., and formerly of McComb, died April 24, 2000, at Riverview Hospital in Gonzales, La.
Mr. Boyd was born July 22, 1922, in Jayess. He was the son of H.N. Boyd and Arie Ollia Marbury Boyd.

Minnie L. Brumfield
Minnie Lea Brumfield, 89, of Tylertown, died April 23, 2000, at Wesley Health Systems in Hattiesburg.
Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Capps Funeral Home in Tylertown. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Foil Cemetery in Walthall County.
John R. ‘Jack’ Parker Sr.
John Rhodes “Jack” Parker Sr., 75, of Smithdale, died April 15, 2000, at Southern Hearts Hospice in Brookhaven.
Visitation continues until 2 p.m. services today at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, with Bro. Roger Lewis officiating. Graveside Masonic services follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithdale.
Mr. Parker was born April 4, 1925, in Smithdale. He was the son of Bud Parker and Rosa Thornton Parker.
He was a retired contractor and a member of First Baptist Church of Baker, La. He was Past Master of Baker Lodge No. 441, a 32nd degree Mason, a Knights Templar and Shriner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II. He was a native of Smithdale and longtime resident of Baker.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Diane Parker; one brother, Wellie Parker; and one sister, Clara Belle Godwin.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Carrol Naul of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Lee Ferrington of Baton Rouge, La., John “Jackie” Parker II of Smithdale, and Van and Rebecca Parker of Brusly, La.; and three grandchildren, Alexa Ferrington, Cody Parker and Anna Katherine Parker.
Pallbearers are Bart Jones, Greg Cotten, Thomas Parker, Henry Dupree, Robbie Zima and Roger Lewis.
Chase Riley
Chase Riley, 17, of Tylertown, died April 17, 2000, in a truck accident on Dinan-Salem Road in Walthall County.
