Branch Riley, 13, of Tylertown, died April 17, 2000, in a truck accident on Dinan-Salem Road in Walthall County.

Arrangements are incomplete with Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home of Tylertown in charge.

Hugh F. ‘Duke’ Brown

Hugh Francis “Duke” Brown, 66, of Osyka, died April 4, 2000, at his residence.

Services were 11 a.m. today at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown. The Rev. Billy Ray Simmons officiated. Burial was at Centerville Cemetery in the Lexie community.

Mr. Brown was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Pike County. He was the son of Hubert Allen and Freddie Beatrice Smith Brown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include one son, Elton Brown of Osyka; one brother, Lynn H. Brown of the Progress community; and two sisters, Thiry Fegan and Peggy Alford, both of Tylertown.

Pallbearers were Alvin Alford, George Alford, Craig Brown, Wade Brown, Lynn Brown and Hugh Elton Brown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Silver Springs Baptist Church or a charity of choice.

Carrie A. Penny

Carrie Lou Austin Penny, 71, of Clinton, La., and formerly of Pride, La., died April 5, 2000, at Grace Nursing Home in Clinton.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary, La., and 9 a.m. Friday until services there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Milldale Baptist Church Cemetery in Pride.

Mrs. Penny was born in Pride.

She was a retired ward clerk with Greenwell Springs Hospital in Greenwell Springs, La., where she worked for 27 years. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Gillsburg.

Mrs. Penny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Penny; one brother, Willie J. Austin; and one granddaughter, Dana Lou Willson.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Jean and Coon Willson of Gillsburg and Dicey and Rick Smith of Arlington, Texas; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Margie Roppolo of Baton Rouge, La., Maurie and M.L. Mestepey of Pride, and Carolyn Reeves of Clinton; one brother, John L. Austin of Milldale, La.; one sister-in-law, Joyce Austin of Pride; four grandchildren, Todd Willson, Sherry Fuqua and husband Lonnie, Penni Hopson and husband William, and Carrie Smith; two great-grandchildren, Leanne Renee Fuqua and Makenzie Ann Hopson; two step great-grandchildren, Cody Floyd and Katie Fuqua; and special nieces, Wendy Veneable, Wimberly Gayle and Wynette Karno, who provided loving care during her extended illness.

Pallbearers will be Mantle Austin, Mark Austin, Wendall Reeves, David Wayne Roppolo, Victor Roppolo and Bouchee Mestepey. Honorary pallbearers will be M.L. Mestepey Jr., Pete Long, Joe Veneable and Bradley Gayle.

James H. ‘Pete’ Graham

James H. “Pete” Graham, 76, of Tylertown, died April 4, 2000, at Walthall County General Hospital.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Capps Funeral Home in Tylertown, with the Rev. David Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Knoxo Cemetery in Walthall County.

Mr. Graham was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Walthall County. He was the son of Willie A. Graham and Allie Jones Graham.

He was retired from Haspel’s Inc. where he was a presser. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Mr. Graham was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nell Brumfield Graham; and one daughter, Wanda Gail Graham.

Survivors include one daughter, Anna Graham Myers of Tylertown; two granddaughters, Rachel Graves of Braxton and Holly Myers of Tylertown; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Smith, Christin Graves, Matthew Graves and Stephanie Graves, all of Braxton; four sisters, Beth Anderson of Tylertown, Nell Shankle of Jonesboro, La., and Idelle Westbrook and Venice Serber, both of Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Skipper Anderson, Jimmy Anderson, Doug Sandifer, Kelly Slade, Billy Serber and Tommy Brumfield.

Ernest Fleming

Ernest Fleming, 89, of Smithdale, died April 5, 2000, at Southern Hearts Hospice in Brookhaven.

Arrangements are incomplete with Hartman Funeral Home of McComb in charge.

John R. ‘Jack’ Parker Sr.

John Rhodes “Jack” Parker Sr., 75, of Smithdale, died April 15, 2000, at Southern Hearts Hospice in Brookhaven.

Visitation continues until 2 p.m. services today at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb, with Bro. Roger Lewis officiating. Graveside Masonic services follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithdale.

Mr. Parker was born April 4, 1925, in Smithdale. He was the son of Bud Parker and Rosa Thornton Parker.

He was a retired contractor and a member of First Baptist Church of Baker, La. He was Past Master of Baker Lodge No. 441, a 32nd degree Mason, a Knights Templar and Shriner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II. He was a native of Smithdale and longtime resident of Baker.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Diane Parker; one brother, Wellie Parker; and one sister, Clara Belle Godwin.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Carrol Naul of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Lee Ferrington of Baton Rouge, La., John “Jackie” Parker II of Smithdale, and Van and Rebecca Parker of Brusly, La.; and three grandchildren, Alexa Ferrington, Cody Parker and Anna Katherine Parker.

Pallbearers are Bart Jones, Greg Cotten, Thomas Parker, Henry Dupree, Robbie Zima and Roger Lewis.

Chase Riley

Chase Riley, 17, of Tylertown, died April 17, 2000, in a truck accident on Dinan-Salem Road in Walthall County.

Marion A. Stewart

Marion A. Stewart, 79, of the Terry’s Creek community, died Nov. 7, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation is 5-8 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. Thursday at Terry’s Creek Baptist Church until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kent Newell and the Rev. David Fortenberry will officiate. Burial will be in Terry’s Creek Cemetery of Magnolia.

Mrs. Stewart was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Thomasville, Ga. She was the daughter of Gordon Pierce and Amanda Allen Pierce.

She was a retired registered nurse and had worked at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, Beacham Memorial Hospital and Kentwood Manor Nursing Home.

She was a member of Terry’s Creek Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rising Glory No. 215 F&AM, where she was Past Worthy Matron.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Doris Smith; and one granddaughter, Ellen Stewart.

Survivors include her husband, Quentin R. Stewart of Terry’s Creek; two sons, Derrell Stewart of Summit and Ronnie Stewart of Terry’s Creek; three daughters, Charlene Habig of Woodville, Melba Covington of Baton Rouge, La., and Rhonda Cheatham of Terry; two brothers, Ronell Pierce of Thomasville, Ga., and Hubert Pierce of Ft. Worth, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ken Habig, Neil Covington, Eric Cheatham, Jeffrey Stewart, Jed Stewart and Chad Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hank Lewis, Freddie Wall, Maurice McDaniel, Dr. Larry Stewart, Norman Price, Dr. Terry Westbrook, Judge Mike Smith and Steven Covington.

Genevieve D. Price

Genevieve Dykes Price, 99, of Baton Rouge, La., died there Nov. 6, 2000, at Lakewood Quarters Nursing Home.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. today at Welsh Funeral Home in Baton Rouge. Graveside services were 3 p.m. today at Osyka Cemetery. Her son, the Rev. Dr. Nelson L. Price, officiated both services. Hartman Funeral Home of McComb was in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Price was born July 25, 1901, in Osyka. She was the daughter of Charles Nelson Dykes and Fannie Alma Varnado Dykes.

She was a homemaker and a member of University Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Her family said she considered Gleaners Sunday School Class, of which she was a member, her extended family. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her family said her legacy is one of love for her Lord, family and friends, a servant’s temperament and a giving nature during her years of vitality.

Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Sibert Price; one brother and sister-in-law, Hewlett and Pearl Dykes; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah P. Price.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert R. and Jean Price of Baton Rouge, and the Rev. Dr. Nelson L. and Trudy Price of Marietta, Ga.; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Richard and Anne Price and David and Patricia Price; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Deborah and Scott Dyess, Lynn and Dr. Roger Hill and Sharon and Dr. Randy Turner; 11 great-grandchildren, Marybeth, Rebecca, Jonathan and Julia Price, Genevieve Marrette, Mattie and Lacey Dyess, Ellen and Katie Hill and John and Beth Turner; and one great-great-granddaughter, Rebecca Alison.

Lula Gill

Lula Gill, 87, of McCall Creek, died Nov. 7, 2000, at Franklin County Hospital in Meadville.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Concord Baptist Church in Franklin County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Gladys Gardner

Gladys Gardner of Liberty died Nov. 7, 2000, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete with Brown Funeral Home of Gloster in charge.

William W. Freeman Sr.

William W. Freeman Sr., 78, of Summit, died of heart failure Oct. 3, 2000, at his residence.

Visitation is 6-9 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, and 11 a.m. Thursday until services there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Walter Sisco will officiate. Burial will be at Montgomery Cemetery in Lincoln County.

Mr. Freeman was born Feb. 5 1922, in Summit. He was the son of Wren Freeman and Estelle Norton Freeman.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Lillie; one grandson, Tony Lillie; and a stepgranddaughter, Gwen Wilson Lagille.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Etta Freeman of Summit; one son and daughter-in-law, William W. Freeman Jr. and Jimmie Freeman of Summit; one daughter and son-in-law, Etta Ruth and Kenneth Johnson of Summit; one stepson and wife, Deanon and Elaine Cleveland of Denham Springs, La.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Lyndell and Bob Swan of Gillsburg and Dollie D. and Paul Wilson of Jayess; three brothers, Jack Freeman of Walker, La., and Mike and Donald Freeman, both of Summit; five sisters, Leonal Chisolm and Bobbie Carter, both of Walker, Inez Brown of Albany, La., Geneva Muirhead of Pearl and Shirley Chisholm of Denham Springs; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a number of stepgrandchildren, other relatives and friends.
