Eddie Sparkman

Eddie “Real People” Sparkman, 56, of Amite County, died Nov. 2, 2000, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Chisholm Mission Church on Highway 98 West in Summit. The Rev. Levi Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Auburn.

Mr. Sparkman was born June 25, 1944, in Amite County. He was the son of Jessie Sparkman and Julia Brown Sparkman of Summit.

He was a mill worker and logger. He was a member of Chisholm Mission Church. He was a former member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pike County, which he joined at an early age. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved baseball and football.

Mr. Sparkman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Winston and Jessie Sparkman; and three sisters, Willena Lang, Retha Mae Stewart and Lula Mae Garrett.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Sparkman Jr. of Milwaukee and Eddie Wall Jr. of Brookhaven; two daughters, Patricia Sparkman of Milwaukee and Diane Wall of Brookhaven; one stepson, Albert Sparkman III of McComb; two stepdaughters, Shamirion Jones and Umeko Sparkman, both of McComb; two brothers, Alton and Arthur Sparkman, both of McComb; one sister and brother-in-law, Annie Jean and Curly Harris of Smithdale; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Margaret S. Rushing

Margaret Mae Smith “Peggy” Rushing, 57, of Tylertown, died Nov. 5, 2000, at Slidell Memorial Hospital in Slidell, La.

Visitation continues today and Wednesday at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown until 2 p.m. services Wednesday at Silver Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Floyd Atchison and the Rev. Patrick Bourg officiating. Burial will be at Rushing Cemetery in Walthall County.

Mrs. Rushing was born April 2, 1943, in Walthall County. She was the daughter of Charlie Lafayette Smith and Avis Elizabeth Wallace Smith.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Rushing of Tylertown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse Rushing Jr. and Marsha Rushing of Wiggins, and Brandon and Beth Rushing of Gulfport; two daughters, Stacy Jacobs and Tonya Sneed, both of Biloxi; three brothers, Wayne “Pete” Smith of Magnolia, Charles Smith of Tylertown and Randy Smith of Baton Rouge, La.; and seven grandchildren.

Ashlee P. Holland

Ashlee Paige Holland, 18 months, died Nov. 5, 2000, at University of Mississippi Medical Center of complications from leukemia.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight and noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Franklin County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ashlee was born May 2, 1999, in McComb. She was the daughter of Paige Holland and Scarlett Brocato Holland of Meadville.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bernard and Jo Riece Holland, and Joe Brocato.

Survivors include her parents; one sister, Olivia Ann Holland of Meadville; maternal grandmother, Peggy Brocato of Smithdale; two great-grandmothers, Mildred Laird of Smithdale and Mae Belle Jarnigan of Texas; four uncles, three aunts, a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Garvin Holland, Vance Holland, Shannon Brocato and Brad Brocato.

Myrtis A. Jackson

Myrtis Ashley Jackson, 98, of Kenner, La., and formerly of Liberty, died April 1, 2009, at her home in Kenner after a sudden illness.

Visitation is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parson Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Liberty, until services there at 1 p.m. The Rev. Willie Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Craft Funeral Home in McComb.

Mrs. Jackson was born May 12, 1910, in Summit, to Johnny and Carrie Barner Ashley.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jackson; her parents, two sons, a stepsister, two stepbrothers and a grandson.

Survivors include six daughters and five sons-in-law, Geneva and Roosevelt Lea of Liberty, Ruth and Ellis Crockett of Kenner, Elizabeth and Frank McKnight of Zachary, La., Myrtis Lee and Amos Williams of Baton Rouge, Willie Neal and Robert Creel of Loganville, Ga., and Marie Jackson Ramey of McDonald, Ga.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Roosevelt and Ruby Jackson of Kenner, J.W. and Beverly Jackson of LaPlace, La., and James Oliver Jackson of Metairie, La.; 45 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Angela Dian Smith

Angela Dian Smith, 44, of Jackson, La., and formerly of Vivian, La., died April 6, 2009, at her Jackson home.

Visitation is 1 p.m. today at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Amite County and continues until services there at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Joe Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.

Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 24, 1964, in Vivian, to George “Bud” Washington Nottingham and Mamie Lee Stinson Nottingham.

She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, George Wayne Nottingham.

Survivors include her husband, Brian Smith of Jackson; a daughter, Ashley Stewart and her husband Matt Watkins of Hattiesburg; a son, Kristofer Stewart of Picayune; two brothers, Jimmy Nottingham and his wife Marie of Liberty and Manny Nottingham of Central, La.; a stepsister, Connie Sue Lester of Central; and numerous nieces an nephews.

Doris Yvonne Moyd

Doris Yvonne Moyd, 67, of Summit, died April 1, 2009, at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite, La.

Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb. Services are 4 p.m. Friday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, with Elder James Stokes, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Bogue Chitto Cemetery.

Mrs. Moyd was born April 26, 1941, in Pike County. She was the daughter of the late Robert Joseph and Viney M. Brister Joseph Powell.

She was an experienced cook in Rochester, N.Y., where she worked for 35 years. She was a member of Zion Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Mrs. Moyd was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Billie, Elmo, Charles, Earl, Kenneth, Howard and Herman Joseph; and a son, Sammy Terrell Moyd.

Survivors include her loving husband of 31 years, Sam F. Moyd of Summit; a daughter, Jackie Moyd of Sanford, Fla.; a brother, Shedrick Joseph of San Diego, Calif.; seven sisters and three brothers-in-law, Linda Joseph and Cora and Walter Mitchell, all of Summit, Gloria and Robert Monroe of Rochester, Peggy and Ray Youngblood of Gulfport, Diane Joseph and Nancy Joseph, both of Jackson, and Mary Thomas of Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Mitchell of Summit; four brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; two aunts, Annie Mae Knox of Summit and Dorothy Brister of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Keyaire Moyd and Keyamber Moyd, both of Summit, Teyaire McGraffery of McComb and Craig Burroughs of Sanford; two goddaughters, 10 godsons, six special friends and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gladys A. Reeves

Gladys A. Greer Reeves, 77, of McComb, died April 8, 2009, at McComb Extended Care.

Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb and 9 a.m. Friday until services at 10 a.m., with the Revs. Tom Burris and Dennis Walker officiating. Burial will be in Reeves Cemetery.

Mrs. Reeves was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of Newton Franklin and Emma Roxie Attaway Greer.

She was a homemaker and for many years was secretary for Reeves Well Service. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Summit and sang alto in the choir. Her family remembers her as a lady who loved her family and church and enjoyed visiting and being visited by her relatives and church family. She loved to play piano and was known as one of the best seamstresses in the area. She also loved to cook and had a love for arts and crafts and made many different items.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester Reeves Sr.; four brothers, Garvice Greer, Lesby Greer, the Rev. Alcus “Red” Greer and the Rev. N. F. Greer; and three sisters, Dorothy Rutland, Audena Reeves and Wilma Grace Brister.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ches-ter Reeves Jr. and Brenda, and Carl and Tina Reeves, all of McComb; two daughters and a son-in-law, Millie O’Neal and Peggy and J.R. Hodges, all of McComb; a sister, Bernice Summerall and husband Paul of Natchez; a sister-in-law, Hilda Whittington of Canton; a brother-in-law, Roy Reeves of McComb; 14 grandchildren, Tracey Boyd, Wendy Dunaway and husband Bo Jack, Suzie Castello, Scottie Reeves and wife Leslie, Jimmy Reeves and wife Annie, Sam Reeves, Eva White, Lonnie Moak, Ashley Hodges, Ali Hodges, Cheyenne Hodges, Waylon Reeves and wife Jessie, Bradley Wayne Reeves and Colton H. Reeves; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Scott Reeves, Jimmy Reeves, Sam Reeves, Lonnie Moak, Waylon Reeves and Bo Jack Dunaway. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad, Trey and Hunter Boyd.

Mary Lizzie Spears

Mary Lizzie “Red” Spears, 64, of Liberty, died April 6, 2009, at University Medical Center in Jackson after a long illness. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Peoples Undertaking Co. in McComb. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Liberty. The Rev. Marvin Ennis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Spears was born May 17, 1944, in Liberty, to Nehemiah and Lula Tobias Spears. She was a member of Cedar Grove United Meth-odist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Derrick Spears; sister, Rosena Tobias; and a brother.

Survivors include her companion, Ceaborn “Ceab” Bates of Liberty; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Gloria and James Patterson, Helen Spears, Ellen and June Henry, Rosetta and Derrick Robinson and Latricia Spears, all of Liberty; son, Ellis Bates of Liberty; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Leon and Pearlie Mae Spears of Magnolia, Willie and Gloria Spears and Leo Spears of Liberty; 14 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viola P. Pigott

Viola P. Pigott, 86, of Tylertown, died there April 6, 2009, at Billdora Nursing Home.

Visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Washington Funeral Home in Tylertown and will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brandon Bay United Methodist Church in Tylertown until services there at 11 a.m. Dr. Charles Tillman will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Pigott was born Aug. 9, 1922, in sandy Hook, to Walthall “Jack” and Angie Faulk Pittman.

She was a teacher.

Mrs. Pigott was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Collie Pigott Jr.; a son and a brother.

Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law, Dorothy and Leonard Mayé of Tallahassee, Bonette and Jimmie Hughes, Janette Pigott and Sandra and Marcus Foxworth, all of Tylertown, and Delise and Robert Harris of Monticello; one son, Dalton Pigott of Tylertown; three sisters, Ernestine James of Columbia, Pearline Ball of Winnfield, La., and Justine Carter of Gulfport; one brother, Leslie Pittman of Houston, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Rosalie M. Brown

Rosalie Ann Murphy Brown, 63, of Albany, La., died there April 8, 2009.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 tonight at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home west of Hammond, La., and 8 a.m. Saturday until services there at 10 a.m. President Raymond V. Burkart Jr., assisted by Bishop Spencer Hodgkin, will officiate. Special speaker will be Mrs. Brown’s brother, Conrad Murphy. Burial will be in Old Zion Hill Cemetery north of Albany.

Mrs. Brown was born March 13, 1946, in Albany. She was the daughter of Clarence Percy Murphy and Georgia Ann Stewart Murphy.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Jewel Stevens Chambers Murphy; and a brother, Wardell Heber Murphy.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Truette Brown of Albany; three sons, Kenneth Brown of Albany, Michael Brown and wife Shannan of Ponchatoula, La., and Clint Brown and wife Ashley of Watson, La.; six grandchildren, Bradley, Brandon, Meagan and Tyler Brown, all of Watson, and Abigail and Payton Brown of Ponchatoula; four brothers, Derald and Frank Murphy of Albany, Conrad Murphy of Loganville, Ga., and George Murphy of Dayton, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Donald Ray Brown of McComb.

Trelle D. Smith

Trelle D. Smith, 32, of Pine Bluff, Ark., and formerly of New Orleans, died April 7, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Summit. Repast will be held at 607 Beech St. in McComb.

Mr. Smith was born Jan. 22, 1977, in New Orleans to William and Irma Smith.He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Fannie M. Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Laquita Smith; two sisters, April Smith and Chunnel Smith; and two brothers, Joseph I. Franklin and Melvin Smith.

Tony C. Jenkins

Tony C. Jenkins, 51, of McComb, died April 9, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete with Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb in charge.
