Karey D. Whittington

Karey Dale Whittington, 62, of Bogue Chitto, died April 21, 2009, at his home.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb, until memorial services there at 3 p.m. The Rev. Cletus Moak will officiate.

Mr. Whittington was born March 1, 1947, in McComb. He was the son of J.C. and Lenis Woodall Whittington.

He was a Mason for a long period of time, he was a fishing tool hand and a consultant for many years in the oil business and most recently a roof installer until his health got bad. He was a graduate of Bogue Chitto High School and served in the National Guard. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, James Carse and Julia Mae Whittington and Ollis and Besse Woodall; and two grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Arickson.

Survivors include his mother, Lenis Whittington of Bogue Chitto; one son, Karey “K.D.” Whittington from McComb; three daughters, Destiny Arickson of McComb, and Leigh Whittington Hobson and Ashley Whittington Peavey, both of Hattiesburg; one sister, Carol Ann Alexander and husband Jesse of Bogue Chitto; five grandchildren, Austin, Angel and Aarron Arickson, Seana and Trey Whittington; six other grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Annie M. Matthews

Annie Mable Matthews, 54, of McComb, died April 18, 2009, at her residence.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church, with services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Skipper Cain will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Newman Funeral Home in Centreville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Matthews was born Aug. 12, 1954, in Liberty. She was the daughter of Laton and Lillie Weathersby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one grandson.Survivors include her husband, O.C. Matthews; three daughters, Venita Matthews, Latasha Peters and Monique Matthews; two sons, Orlando and Tyrell Matthews; two stepsons, Tony McDonald and Earl Cooper; three sisters, Gloria Weathersby, Margie Fobbs and Claire Boyd; one brother, Carl Weathersby; and 10 grandchildren.

Carolyn Knox

Carolyn Knox, 54, of Chicago, died April 19, 2009, at a hospital in Chicago after a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Craft Funeral Home in McComb. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. John Earnest officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Church Cemetery in Smithdale.

Miss Knox was born Dec. 31, 1954, in Wheaton, Ill. She was the daughter of Ray B. Knox Sr. of Evanston, Ill., and the late Sarah Adams Knox.

She was a homemaker.

Miss Knox was preceded in death by her mother and one brother.

Survivors include her father; two sisters, Patricia Ann Knox of Chicago and Dorothy Knox Edwards of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Ray Knox Jr. of Miami and Ricky Knox of Summit; and several aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Pearl A. Lowery

Pearl Beck Anderson Lowery, 76, of Liberty, died April 22, 2009, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb. Visitation will continue at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Summit United Methodist Church until services there at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Lowery was born Jan. 1, 1933, in McComb.

Shirley W. Alexander

Shirley Pearl Williams Alexander, 61, of McComb, died April 16, 2009, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at East Fernwood Baptist Church in Fernwood. Services will be at noon Saturday at the church, with the Rev. J.J. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery. Craft Funeral Home in McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alexander was born Aug. 17, 1947, in McComb. She was the daughter of Alcus Williams and Alfedean Turner Garner Williams.

She was a teacher with the South Pike School System. She was a member of East Fernwood Baptist Church.

She graduated from Eva Gordon Attendance Center in 1965 where she was active in the FHA, Yearbook Club and the school choir where she sang first soprano. She later participated in the Manpower training institute, where she received secretarial training. Later on she attended and graduated in 1972 from Jackson State University. She held a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. While attending Jackson State, she was a member of the chorus and Alpha Beta Alpha Fraternity. While there she worked as a dormitory matron for four years to help pay for her education.She was employed by the South Pike School District where she worked for 36 years as a classroom teacher in various grade levels. Shemost recently worked as a kindergarten teacher. She was a member of the National Education Association/Mississippi Association of Educators. Over the years, Shirley was always active in community and church activities. She was a member of the NAACP and East Fernwood Baptist Church, where she was on the usher board. In the past, she has sang in the church choir, Turner Family Choir, Fellowship Choir, and she served as church secretary. In 1975, she was united in holy matrimony to Melvin C. Alexander. To this union, two children were born.

Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Rufus Williams.

Survivors include one daughter, Chywanda Ranette Alexander of McComb; one son, Jeffery Javon Alexander of McComb; four sisters, Vester G. Thompson and her husband Clifton Sr., Lee Ethla Dobbs, Ardis Marie McEwen and Sandra Gail Williams-Morgan, all of McComb; two brothers, Robert Guy and James Paul Williams and his wife Nurcile, both of McComb; 11 nieces and nephews; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Ricky Dillon

Ricky Dillon, 51, of New Orleans, died there April 17, 2009, at University Hospital, after a sudden illness.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ray Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans. Services will be at noon Saturday at Magee’s Temple Church of God in Christ in Franklinton, La. Elder Benson Magee and Elder Barry Dillon will officiate.

Mr. Dillon was born March 1, 1958, in New Orleans. He was the son of the late Fellie Dillon and the late Willie Mae Martin Dillon.

He worked for the VA Warehouse in New Orleans. His education began in New Orleans, first attending McDonough 40, then Livingston Middle School and Abramson High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 10, 1975, and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. He received an honorable discharge in 1978.

Survivors include his fiancée, Vanessa Wilson of New Orleans; a sister, Dorothy Conerly and her husband Jay of Tylertown; three nephews, Elder Barryl Dillon and his wife Rose of New Orleans, and Shamari and Quadrell Conerly, both of Houston, Texas; one niece, Keyactha Conerly of South Korea; one aunt, Dorothy magee of Franklinton; one uncle, Roy J. Brown and his wife Ester of Tulsa, Okla.; and a host of cousins, other family and friends.

Joseph Harris Sr.

Joseph Harris Sr., 64, of New Orleans, died of kidney failure April 19, 2009, at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La.

Visitation will be 6 to 7:45 p.m. Friday at Second Zion Baptist Church in Marrero, with services there at 8 p.m. Bishop James Nelson Brown and the Rev. Don Allen will officiate. Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Tangipahoa Baptist Church Cemetery. Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in McComb is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Harris was born Jan. 12, 1945, in St. Francisville, La. He was the son of Lena Harris.

He was retired.

Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his mother; two sisters, Louisa and Evelyn; and three brothers, Don, Alex and Alvin.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Geneva Brumfield Harris; three children and their spouses, Eva Sandifer and Mickel of McComb, Joseph Harris Jr. and Raquelle, and Brian Harris and Neicia, all of New Orleans; six grandchildren; one brother; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Thomas T. Weatherspoon Sr., Latimore Brumfield Jr., Robert Earl Brumfield, Mickel Sandifer Sr., Thomas Weatherspoon Jr. and Mitch Enclade.

Rebecca Cook

Rebecca Cook, 91, of Magnolia, died April 21, 2009, at McComb Nursing and Rehab.

Arrangements are incomplete with Peoples Undertaking Co. in McComb in charge.

Albert Tuttle Jr.

Albert Tuttle Jr., 71, of McComb, died April 22, 2009, at Hospice Ministries in Ridge.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Catchings and 9 a.m. Tuesday until services there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Tuttle was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Pike County.

Mary L. Robinson

Mary Lizette Robinson, 96, of McComb, died April 22, 2009, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete with Catchings Funeral Home in McComb in charge.
