Barbara M. Hart

Barbara Dianne McKenzie Hart, 47, of McComb died Jan. 6, 2009, at Kings Daughter’s Hospital in Brookhaven.

Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb and 9 a.m. Friday until services there at 11 a.m. Pastor Woody Rimes will officiate. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mrs. Hart was born May 18, 1961, in Jackson. She was the daughter of Willie Earl and Barbara McKenzie of Baton Rouge.

She joined the McComb School District in June 2008. She worked in the Business and Technology Complex as secretary, initially. As her talents were realized and she continued to assume more responsibilities, she was promoted to administrative assistant. Coworkers and family members said she served the district, the building, the students and patrons well during her tenure. The professional atmosphere of the office was often recognized and attributed to her mannerisms.

Mrs. Hart was president of the McComb Association of Education Office Professionals and was vice president and chairman of the scholarship and nominating committees. Always pursuing the highest calling of professionalism, Mrs. Hart completed the requirements of the Professional Standards Program and earned the distinction of Certified Educational Office Employee.

Mrs. Hart had one daughter, Kelly, who is a sixth-grade student at Higgins Middle School and a member of the Quest program. As in everything she did, Mrs. Hart put her whole heart into being a mother to Kelly. She was active in the school PTA and supportive of the staff and programs at her daughter’s school.

Mrs. Hart was a graduate of Forest Hill High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. She came to the McComb School District with a number of years of experience in office management.

McComb School District personnel remember Mrs. Hart with fondness.

“Mrs. Hart had impeccable work ethics that generated a person who was dependable and proud to contribute to the positive impact that schools made for our children,” said curriculum director Betty Wilson. “She did not hesitate to take the initiative to add innovative ideas to ensure a building environment that embraced the learning experience.”

Deloras Young said, “Dianne was more than a co-worker to me. She was my sister in Christ. Dianne was a fine Christian woman who lived her life in a way that would glorify God. You could see Christ in everything she did. Not only will she be missed at McComb School District, she will be missed by me and the rest of her Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of McComb.”

B&T Center principal Tommy Catchings said, “Dianne was the glue that held the Business and Technology Complex together. She was organized and dependable. She will be greatly missed by the staff and students.”

Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jack B. Allgood, Clara and O.B. Magee, and Willie Ara McKenzie and his wife Willie Louise McKenzie.Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Hart of McComb; a brother, Chip McKenzie and wife Monica of Walker, La.; a sister, Clarissa McLendon and husband Greg of Jackson; and numerous aunts, uncles and close friends.

Pallbearers are Chris Coon, Aaron Betts, Scott McKenzie and Mark McKenzie.

Dean Sanders

Dean Sanders, 81, of McComb, died Jan. 6, 2009, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation is 9 a.m. Friday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb until services there at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Charles “Chuck” Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders was born April 1, 1927, in Yuma, Ariz., to Willie David and Pearl Copper Sanders.

He was a retired crane operator and was best known as “the Peanut Man” around McComb. He attended West McComb Baptist Church and was a member of the DeLeon, Texas, Masonic Lodge, where he was a Master Mason.

Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Bracey Sanders; a son-in-law, Roy “Butch” Westmoreland; two brothers, Doyle Sanders and Lloyd Sanders; and two sisters, Ruby Sanders Hassel and Willie Faye Scott.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Angela Sanders of McComb, and Jeffrey and Sue Sanders of Rockledge, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Westmoreland of Magnolia; a sister, Elsie Sanders Barnes of DeLeon, Texas; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Wall, Chuck Niemeyer, Mike Duncan, Reggie Duncan, Clay Duncan and Dustin Lee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to West McComb Baptist Church Building Fund, 4016 Highway 24 West, McComb, MS 39648.

George W. Porter

George William Porter, 69, of Bogue Chitto, died Jan. 6, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Bro. Billy Jo Deere and Bro. Hal Hatten officiating. Burial will be in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogue Chitto.

Mr. Porter was born Nov. 22, 1939, in Franklin County to Lawrence and Bernice Herring Porter.

He was a retired electrician from New Orleans Public Schools. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Juliette Westbrook; and two brothers, John and Ben Joe Porter.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Kern Porter; one son, George William “Bill” Porter and his wife Cheryl of Cypress, Texas; two stepsons, Ed Barrett of Jensen Bench, Fla., and David Barrett of Carriere; two daughters, Glenda Van Geffen and her husband Mark of Katy, Texas, and Deborah Matthews of Hammond, La.; one brother, Daniel Porter of Brookhaven; one sister, Rachel Etienne of Metairie, La.; five grandchildren, Casey and Cody Porter, Ryan and Kyle Van Getten and Rebecca Barrett; and a sister-in-law, Maxine Porter.

Charles Crawford

Charles Crawford, 40, of Osyka, died Jan. 7, 2008, at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete with Catchings Funeral Home in McComb in charge.

Diann McClain

Diann McClain, 52, a lifelong resident of Gloster, died Dec. 31, 2008, at a friend’s home in Gloster.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Cook Funeral Home in Gloster. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Big Antioch Baptist Church on Antioch-Perkins Road in Gloster. The Rev. Robert Earl Goodness will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McClain was born June 11, 1956, in Gloster. She was the daughter of L.E. McClain and Precious McClain.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lee Earl McClain.

Survivors include three sons, Jeremy and Tomarion McClain of Phoenix, Ariz., and Nick Charles McClain of Centreville; two daughters, twins Tarrie and Carrie Jackson of Phoenix; three loving and caring sisters, Susie and her husband Richard Spann of Atlanta, Mae Nash of Gloster and Katie Mae McClain of Phoenix; one brother, John L. McClain of Gloster; and one grandson, Raben Gayden of Gloster.

Pallbearers are nephews and friends.

Cynthia Causey

Cynthia Causey, 58, of Clinton and formerly of the Progress community in Pike County, died Jan. 7, 2009, at University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark.

Arrangements are incomplete at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb.

Louville H. Guy

Louville Houston Guy, 105, of New Orleans, died there Jan. 1, 2009, at St. Margaret’s Nursing Home.

Visitation is 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil St., Gretna, La. Visitation will continue at noon Saturday at St. James Methodist Church, 584 Old Highway 24 East, Tylertown, until services there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in McComb.

Mrs. Guy was born Nov. 17, 1903, in Liberty, to Dave and Melissa Houston of McComb.

Mrs. Guy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harrison Claiborne Guy; six sons and eight daughters.

She attended St. James Methodist Church of Tylertown and Brooks United Methodist Church of New Orleans. She was a Sunday school teacher, usher board member and an affiliate of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Guy’s family said, “She will be missed by all, and her legacy of prayer and thanksgiving will never be forgotten.”

Survivors include two daughters, Ollie Mae and Sarah Vivian; 52 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Bobbie P. Hickman

Bobbie P. Hickman, 71, of Summit, died Jan. 6, 2009, at her residence due to cancer.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Family Funeral Services of McComb and 8 a.m. Saturday until services there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Van Windom and Bro. Lloyd Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Pike Memorial Cemetery in McComb.

Mrs. Hickman was born March 11, 1937, in Utica. She was the daughter of the late Johnnie McCree and Gracie Ida Hamilton Furlow.

She was a homemaker and was a member of West McComb Baptist Church. Her family said, “She was a precious lady who gave of herself, especially to her friends and family. She was soft and kind and loved to fish and was an avid gardener. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.”

Mrs. Hickman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman W. “Boogie” Hickman; four sisters, Louise Furlow, Doris Parson, Janice Case and Jerline Case; and three brothers, Ronnie, Vernon and Willie Furlow.

Survivors include her son, Herman W. “Butch” Hickman of Summit; one brother, Harold Furlow of Wesson; three sisters, Aline Allen of McComb, Margie Smith and her husband Billy of Wesson, and Bernice Benoit and her husband Roy of Summit; two special sisters-in-law and a brother in-law, Mildred and Billy Hutson of Magnolia and Louise Felder of McComb; a special nephew, Michael Furlow of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Herrington, Greg Smith, Johnny L. Parsons Jr., Anthony Case, Gary Allen and Charles “Chuck” Moffitt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry McKey, Mike Love, Ralph Case. Vance Varley, Herman Hutson, Scott Mixon and Ben Mixon.
