Alice 'Mickey' Davis

Alice “Mickey” Davis, 90, died Dec. 26, 2008, at Lakewood Regional Hospital in Lakewood, Calif., on her birthday.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 6175 Old Port Gibson Road, Hazlehurst. The Rev. William Price and the Rev. Herbert Gustavis will officiate. Burial will be in Hunter Cemetery in the Barlow community in Hazlehurst. House of Peoples Funeral Home, 1004 Monticello St., Hazlehurst, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Hazlehurst. She was the daughter of Samuel Hamilton and Mary Ellison Davis.

She received her primary education in Hazlehurst. She gave birth to a daughter, Mary Francis Clark, whom she called “Mae Mae.” In 1942, she married Hugh “Flirt” Davis, who died in 2001.

Alice accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of Hall Hill M.B. Church. After relocating to Compton, Calif., in 2003, she joined Holy Trinity AME Church in Long Beach, Calif., under the present leadership of Rev. Gale Davis Culp. Alice was a faithful member until her health began to fail.

Her occupation as a housekeeper touched the lives of many for more than 40 years through her cooking, cleaning, consoling and companionship. After retiring from her professional occupation, she cared for her husband Hugh, who was in failing health. She often said visits of love from grandchildren to great-great-grandchildren added years to her life. Everyone feeling more special than the other was greeted with a “Hi Sugar” from Grandmother Alice.

Having never spent a day in the hospital in her life, she was taken to Lakewood Regional Hospital when her health began to fail. It was there she died on her 90th birthday.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Hugh “Flirt” Davis; and a sister, Rosa Smith.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, M.L. Davis and wife Janie Davis; a daughter, Mary Francis Davis and husband Leroy Davis; a stepdaughter, Maude Roberson and husband Ervin Roberson; four grandchildren, Valerie Robinson and husband Ronald, Cynthia Slaughter and husband Sydney, Kevin L. Davis and wife Sheila and Kelly Davis; 10 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Wesley E. Ivey

Wesley Edward Ivey, 50, of Magnolia, died Jan. 6, 2009, at the residence of his sister, following a brief illness.

Visitation is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb until memorial services there at 2 p.m.

Mr. Ivey was born March 14, 1958, in Jackson. He was the son of Houston G. Ivey and Becky Sue Lung Ivey of Magnolia.

He was an industrial machinist. He loved to fish, camp and cook, and his family said he was a person who had the talent to do any and everything.

Survivors include his parents; his wife, Rosa Brister Ivey of Magnolia; six children and their spouses, John Wesley and Jessica Ivey and Jessica and Will French of Magnolia, James Ivey of St. Louis, Tony Ray and Courtney Brister of Kentwood, La., Carrol and Stephanie Farve of Osyka and Veronica and Jeremy Wilkinson of Magnolia; a sister and brother-in-law, Devon and Steve Rushing of Magnolia; and eight grandchildren, Savannah, Jenniffer, Angelina, Miranda, Brianna, Jazlyn, Landon and Kobee.

Deloise ‘Net’ Green

Deloise “Net” Green, 56, of New Orleans, died Jan. 4, 2009, at Touro Infirmary, after a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at New Home Family Worship Center, 13800 Hayne Blvd., in New Orleans. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 122 Obed Magee Road in Tylertown. The Rev. Jerry Norrell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove UMC Cemetery in Tylertown. Peoples Undertaking Co. in McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Green was born Jan. 12, 1952, in Tylertown. She was the daughter of the late Alton “Can” Green and the late Clara Smith Green.

Survivors include one daughter, Shawanda Sylvester and her husband Aaron of New Orleans; one granddaughter, Trinity Sylvester of New Orleans; three sisters, Dejoyce Hilton and her husband David, and Linda Faye Magee, all of New Orleans, and Angela Jones of Tylertown; one brother, Anthony Dillon and his wife Gladys of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hazel Taylor Mingo

Hazel Taylor Mingo, 80, of Chicago and formerly of McComb, died Dec. 31, 2008, in Chicago.

Visitation is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary No. 1 Free Will Baptist Church until services there at noon. Elder James Banks, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Dinah Cemetery, with Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Mingo was born June 13, 1928, in Pike County. She was the second of five children born to Nannie Taylor and Isaiah Taylor Sr.

She attended Universal High School in McComb, where she graduated and met her soul mate, Leroy Mingo.

Mrs. Mingo dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age. She joined St. Mary’s Church and continued to be an active member until she moved in 1952 to Chicago, where she became an active member of Shiloh Baptist church

She worked for and retired at Propiel Brothers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy Mingo; a daughter, Linda Diane Mingo; and three siblings, Hosea, Lillie and Isaiah Taylor Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen; a son, Leroy Mingo Jr.; two grandchildren, Mark Mingo and wife Lynda and Pamela Jackson and husband Phillip; seven great-grandchildren, Monet, Cheryl, Mark Jr., Taren, Dimitri, Chardae, Monique and Trinity; a sister, Ada Taylor of McComb; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Henrietta Ramsey

Henrietta Ramsey, 89, of Smithdale, died Dec. 30, 2008, at a hospital in Los Angeles.

Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Craft Funeral Home of McComb. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Smithdale, with Elder Willie N. Jenkins and Pastor Oliver Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ramsey was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Franklin County, to Henry and Martha Jackson.

She was the last surviving member of the Jackson clan and was a lifelong member of Rose Hill M.B. Church.

She was employed for a number of years at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville until she retired. She the Rose Hill and Smithdale communities to live with her son in Los Angeles, where she lived until her death.

She was married to Henry Lee Ramsey Sr. for more than 40 years until his death.

As a loyal member, Mother Ramsey served her church in numerous positions, but she was mostly known as a longtime member of the senior choir and usher board. She was a loving mother of 10 children, a wonderful and sharing neighbor and a faithful member of the church and the Rose Hill and Smithdale communities.

Mother Ramsey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Lee “Platt” Ramsey; a son, John Edward “Pook” Ramsey and a daughter, Martha “Mott” Ramsey Porter.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, William and Glaidene Ramsey of Las Vegas, Henry L. Ramsey Jr. and Diane of Carson, Calif., Lawrence and Carla Ramsey of Northridge, Calif., Jimmie D. and Doreen Ramsey of Los Angeles, and Tommy L. and Felethia Ramsey of Van Nuys, Calif.; three daughters, Lilliam Marie Ramsey Lee and husband Sherman Jr. of Los Angeles, Mildred Joan Ramsey White of Smithdale and Bettye Ramsey Graves and husband Justice James Jr. of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Georgia M. Jackson Ramsey; 35 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; seven threat-great-grandchildren; four nieces, Anne Cameron-Gray and husband Noah of Clinton, Velma Jackson Brown of Bude, Joffie McGehee Jenkins of McComb and Dorothy McGehee of Milwaukee; three nephews, Albert Porter of Little Rock, Ark., Thomas McGehee of McComb and Jerry McGehee of Milwaukee; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Michael Ramsey, Ryan Ramsey, James Graves III, Eric Porter, Reginald Ramsey and Jeffrey M. Graves. Honorary pallbearers are Alexie Jemel Taylor, Jimmie D. Ramsey, Thomas McGehee, Lawrence Ramsey, Tommy L. Ramsey and Louis White III.

Earline Harrison

Earline Harrison, 90, of Centreville, died Jan. 3, 2009, in Houston, Texas.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Saturday at Winans Chapel CME Church in Centreville until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Willie Jones will officiate, and burial will be in the Mount Zion CME Church Cemetery in Centreville. Anderson Funeral Home of Gloster is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harrison was born March 8, 1918, in Wilkinson County. She was the daughter of Monroe and Ervira Newton Daniels.

Survivors include a daughter, Willie M. Harris and husband Robert; a granddaughter, Sonjia A. Preston and husband Harvey; great-grandchildren, Winston Preston and Tabatha, Sharena Banks and Cornelius, Kevin Preston and Yolanda and Gnovell Joseph Williams; great-great-grandchildren, Jamilah, Jamarcus and Justin Preston of Dallas, Cornelius and Christian Banks of Rosharon, Texas; three sisters, Nancy Johnson, Bessie Perry and Margie Taplin; a brother, Douglas Mars and wife Evelyn; sisters-in-law, Adilee Daniels and Bertha Daniels; a brother-in-law, Carl Van Norman; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Amos McKnight Sr.

Amos McKnight Sr., 84, of Summit, died Jan. 2, 2009, as a result of a traffic accident in McComb.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Parson Hill Baptist Church, with Dr. Willie J. Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, with Cook’s Enterprise Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. McKnight was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Amite County. He was the son of the late Henry McKnight and Ella McCray.

Mr. McKnight, a retiree, was preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife, Marie Reynolds McKnight; a son, Amos McKnight Jr.; and a daughter, Shelia Bates.

Survivors include six sons and two daughters-in-law, George and Naomi McKnight of Kenner, La., Charles and Patricia McKnight of Liberty, Kenneth McKnight and Hosea McKnight of Louisiana, and Lawrence Holden and W.T. Curry; two daughters, Gloria Williams and Gladys Thompson of Kenner, La.; two brothers, Frank McKnight and Odis Robinson; three sisters, Gertrude McCray, Fannie McCray and Mary Vessel; a very special relative, Eula Patterson-Jackson; two special grandchildren, Tonya Houston-Williams of McComb and Kassandra L. Houston of Kenner; and a host of several other family loved ones and friends.

Larry Hill

Larry Hill, 61, of Magnolia, died Jan. 8, 2009, at Regency Hospital in Jackson.

Arrangements are incomplete with Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb in charge.

Antonio Hall

Antonio Hall, 71, of New Orleans, died there Jan. 3, 2009, at Ochsner Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Dismissal services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Craft Funeral Home of McComb. Burial will be in New Home Baptist Church cemetery in McComb.

Mr. Hall was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Panama City, Panama. He was the son of the late Sinico and Carolina Hall.

He was a retired longshoreman.

Survivors include his wife, Angelina Smith Hall of New Orleans; three daughters, Adriana Thornton of New Orleans and Veronica and Mercedee Hall, both of Panama City; two sons, Valencia Hall of Galveston, Texas, and Onasis Hall of Panama City; several sisters and brothers; and three grandchildren.
