A godly woman of quiet strength is how many would characterize her. She was the eighth child of nine.

She credited her mother’s demeanor and ability to stay focused, while raising nine children alone after the death of her father, with making a huge impact on her life.

She and Pastor Ephraim Williams were united in holy matrimony Nov. 22, 1953, in Chicago.

Affectionately known as “Sister Sue,” her formal education was received in Mississippi, Chicago and California.

In addition, she graduated from Southern Baptist Seminary Extension and the National Baptist Convention COPPS Program. She undertook two years of pastoral training from seminary. Another side includes her years as an entrepreneur, at which time she owned and operated two successful beauty salons.

She believed that she had been called to be a pastor’s wife and defined her role as “being available for the pastor’s needs and supporting her husband fully.”

Her mantra was to always stay positive and maintain a close relationship with God by praying and reading God’s word on a daily basis.

She attended Mount Canaan Elementary School, Liberty Rosenwald High School and graduated from Burglund High School.

She was baptized at Mount Canaan A.M.E. Church in Smithdale, where she sang in the choir, attended Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She sang in various local churches with the Gaton Sisters Quartet.
